Disgaea miniatures game?

Ok, I'm sure some of you thought of it. We have figures for Disgaea, their scale fits for miniatures combat, and there are a variety of figures out there that are the same scale. So, at one time or another, I'm sure a few of you have thought of making rules for a Disgaea minatures game.

So, here's my idea. I am opening this thread so that the fans of the game can come up with rule for a tabletop miniatures game in the spirit of Disgaea.

There is something I would like to say first. When making rules, they have to be easy to learn so that you don't have to print off tons of pages just to learn the basics. If the game is too hard to learn, then people may not be interested to learn at all.

Here's a few ideas I came up with so far....

Rules set: Miniatures

As with any game, it is greatly needed that all miniatures used have to be the same size. For this game, miniatures have to be at least 2 inches tall, and Chibi or SD style. Japanese palm figures work quite well for this (as Disgaea palm figures are readily available online). What also works are Hasbro's Superhero Squadron, and Robot Heroes line. As well as Minimates, Kubricks, and Playmate's TMNT Mini-Mutants.

Rules set: Environments

Ok, this is going to be a little complicated. When thinking of terrain and environments for your game, there are two options available. Board, and free range.

If you plan to use a board, your options are not very limited. You can go to any game store and pick up a play mat. These are usually used for games like Battletech, or Dungeons and Dragons, and can come in hexes or squares. However, there are some drawbacks to this as well. First off, miniatures have to be the same base size. Disgaea miniatures fit well on these boards, but some others (Like ones with wide stances, or unusual poses) will not fit into the squares quite as well, and cannot be used this way.

Also, if you want to add elevation, you have to find an analog for one, or draw it right on the board. Smaller paper boards can tear after prolonged use, and larger ones set on a table, or can be rolled up to tend to be a little hard to store if you don't have space.

Another option is to use Hasbro's Heroscape system. This hex based buildable board is quite customisable. It's also a little easy to store. But, it is very expensive. Also, it takes some time to set up, and some miniatures may not fit on theses spaces. Characters with large weapons (like Edna) may have trouble standing next to a high elevation area.

A good solution is free form. It gives you an unlimited way to customise the field of battle. And miniature restrictions are almost non-existent. But, the immediate drawback to this is movement and spells are not set up like they are in the Disgaea video game. Free formed gaming has no spaces, and uses rulers, or better yet, tape measures, to measure movement. Also, spell and tech can be determined by templates. Some game companies (like Game Workshop) have templates for games of this style.

A general rule if you wish to use one or the other is to think of what your play style is, and what kind of miniatures you'll be using.

So, any ideas will help out here.
