posticon Disgaea 3

EDIT: Objection!

Some people can afford a Playstation 3, some people cannot. I have college, house, car, and general living expenses I have to pay, thus I am in the category of people who cannot afford a $500 machine to play a $50 game. I bought my first Playstation 2 about 5 months ago, I really have no money to spend.

Now to my point: Disgaea 3 should not be put on the Playstation 3... but the Playstation 2. Of course three or four years from now this will be strange, but this act will allow all Disgaea fans, rich and poor, a chance to play the third and final installment.

I know all to well that some of you guys can afford a Playstation 3 system, but for those of us that cannot get our hands on one... please discuss.

Re: Disgaea 3

I'm not sure that Disgaea as it is can go into a third iteration... I mean just the fact that Disgaea 2 is pretty much a mod of Disgaea is somewhat awkward already.

They would need a state-of-the-art milking machine to do it another time.

Also, I'm not sure if such games can survive on the PS3 even if they wanted to port. NIS has been reusing a lot of their code. There comes a point when you need to start making new engines. By PS3, 2D isometric will be way too outdated. Harvest Moon went from isometric to 3D fairly effectively, and that was years ago.

Lol. state of the art milking machine. Classic.

Well I agree with you. What I would love to see is the Disgaea/MK style game be made for the PS3, but treated almost as a PC title where you have the base game and then expansion packs that would add character classes, new weapons, new worlds, etc. Make them downloadable. AND! add the ability to take your army and pit it against another person over PS3 live (or whatever it is called). I mean how awesome would it be to have level 2000+ human versus human showdowns? You could steal their powered up items, etc.

I think an online J SRPG is just what we need. Personally, the only thing stopping me from playing MK and Disgaea is that I've burned them out.

Of course they could supplement a game such as this with fresh stuff (like Atelier Iris etc.) along the way. But I know a lot of us will never ever get tired of games like Disgaea and MK.

lmao. Disgaea 3? Are you sure it's ready to go that far at this stage? You are jumping the gun a little bit with this D3 theory of yours. And yes, as I quote verbatim a state of the art milking machine is needed (I lmfao at that quite possibly the only witty phrase I've heard in my stay here). And for the PS3/PS2 thing? it might work, seeing as PS3, iirc, has backwards compatibility. And I second the motion that ssb has put forward. An online version. Would be awesome. O: I'm still milking PB/MK/D1 of any playability while I wait for more games to beat. But eh.

lawl RPGamer also forgot the massive amounts of MK cameos (various MK overlords cameo in the Tera/Omega spells, for example Valvoga is in Tera Star, Pram is in Omega Ice, while Zetta and Asagi are secret bosses) and the sin/court system.

Well, anyway, it seems imminent now. I mean, I don't blame them for making that sort of decision. But it is a risky thing to do. I mean I don't not support it, but after all, you do need to take your chances to be successful. Who knows, it could even be multi-platform! :3 That would be awesome.

Some spoilers related to secret bosses (non main storyline bosses) of Makai Kingdom and Disgaea 2 below:
---------------------------------------------

I kind of wish NIS would stop teasing us and release a game with Asagi as the main character. I thought from the text in Makai Kingdom that she was just an idea that fell flat and they ended up scrapping her, but just wanted to put her as a secret boss. Then they end up putting her in Disgaea 2 with a pretty big hint that she will get her own game.

Then as yet ANOTHER sneaky trick, NIS has an animated gif of Danette (cow girl character) digging up an Asagi doll in one of the loading screens of the Soul Cradle website.

Image

I cannot read the kanji, but it's the exact same kanji used for the "Main Character" in the character section, so I believe the little text bubble says "The main character is finished loading". But if the katakana is "road" instead of "load" than maybe it says "The main character is road ready" which doesnt make as much sense to me. Anyway I put up a quick page on my site about Soul Cradle.

Load in katakana is always written like that.
