Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Anyone else have a favorite NPC class that didn't make the roster?
I personally loved the Ronin class and was disappointed to see that they didn't make it into Makai Kingdom. I just assumed at the time that since Makai Kingdom was an offshoot that Disgaea's characters were just cameos and that they would definitely return in the sequel.
But now the sequel is here and most of the other NPC designs are untouched but some have been replaced or just haven't appeared in any of the media yet.
I've heard speculation that the female ninja and the pint-sized swordgirl is supposed to be the replacement for the Ronin, but I really don't like that. I'd understand if the Ronin were a pre-requisite class like the system we had in Disgaea, but so far I'm seeing no indications that they are going to be anywhere in the game.
So where do we go to complain directly to Nippon Ichi about these changes? I still love their company but I'm sure that others who had a favorite NPC class want theirs back in too. especially with all we spent in Disgaea getting used to them. We may as well start petitioning for their returns now before a 3rd sequel comes out and they get buried forever.
My combat team just won't be complete without them.

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Yeah, it looks like the Ronin are now male instead of female. On the other hand, the Thief class is now female, and there are male and female Ninja.
Personally, the biggest disappointment for me is the apparent lack of Angels... I loved that class: cute and very powerful, but not overpowered like the Majin.
Mind you, there's still a chance that there are some unlockable classes we haven't heard about yet. The previous game had 17 humanoid classes, and so far only 16 have been revealed for the sequel. At the moment, the classes we're missing are:
Brawlers (Male and Female)
Healers (Male)
Thieves (Male): replaced with female class
Scouts: present but replaced with old men
Ronin (female): replaced with male class
EDF Soldiers
Angels
Majin
And what of the monsters? There's been next to nothing revealed about them apart from what we can gather from screenshots. I was pleased to discover that my favorite class, the Nekomata, are back, as are a few others, but given the number of new monsters I've glimpsed, I'd expect a large number from the first fame have been retired.
But honestly, while a few of these absences are disappointing, I'd rather NipponIchi dedicated disc space to new and interesting classes rather than bringing back every single class from the last game. So while I'll miss the Angels, the Demon Tamers look like just as much fun. The important thing is that the designs seem to be just as inspired as they were in the first game - a relief after MK, in which the monster designs were, in my opinion, relatively lacklustre. The Ronin is a particularly notable loss given the character's popularity, but I suspect she was retired due to the resemblance she bears to Yukimaru (one of the main characters).

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Some of the monster classes and their support effects:
Ghost (D1): Recovers SP everyturn.
Zombie (D1): Recovers HP if it kills something with normal attacks?
Empusa (D1): Deals extra damage to Male units.
Nekomata (D1): Deals extra damage with Physical attacks?
Dragon (D1?): Immune to fire abilities?
Prinnies (D1): Explode when thrown. Yes, that's their special passive ability. Wut.
Pink Orc (Little Goblin things): When HP is low, Atk goes up.
Mothman (D1? They look like moths): When HP is low, Movement goes up. Flying unit, can pass through enemy lines.
Wa-suragu? (Dunno): Immune to water abilities?
Arlaune (Flower Girls): Magic does less damage to her.
Cait Sith (Floating Doggy Things): Immune to wind abilities?
Marionette (Puppet): Immune to status effects. WOW.
Chicken-monster (HI AUTOCENSOR): Weakens enemies around it?
Wood Golem (Tree Golem-thing): Recovers HP everyturn.
As for humans, there are 17 that I've heard of, but I can't find any information on the 17th one besides its name.
The Convict class, while it looks different, is essentially the same character as a Brawler. EDF Soldiers were replaced with the Gunner class, the design of Majins was adopted to the Heavy Knight class (but I assume the stats were given to that 17th class...)

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Interesting stuff. Is the seventeenth human character you mentioned the Chaos Knight? I heard this name being used but wasn't sure if it was in reference to the Heavy Knight.
I like the sound of these support effects. The "Cait Sith" class is intriguing, though... wasn't this also the name of one of the Nekomata subclasses?

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Yes, the 17th is indeed the Chaos Knight, and Cait Sith was one of the Nekomata subclasses in the US version of D1.
All the humanoids have support effects, too:
Fighter (M and F): When HP is low, critical rate goes up.
Skulls: Learns magic really quickly.
Magicians: SP cost of magic is lower than for other characters.
Ninja (M): When HP is low, evasion rate goes up.
Ninja (F): When HP is low, attacks twice?
Heavy Knight: When HP is low, Def goes up.
Convict: When HP is low, (fist?) damage goes up.
Druid (Geomaster): Isn't damaged during Geo chains.
Samurai: ???
Gunner: Does more damage during combo attacks.
Thief: Higher chance of stealing success. WOW.
Healer: Elemental attacks do less damage to her. Does this include Magic Weapon abilties?
Archers: +1 range bonus when equipped with bows.
Beast Master: Monster-type allies standing beside her will be stronger.
Magic Knight: Does extra damage with Magic Weapon.

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
The ronin was cute and I liked using her. The female samurai in Makai Kingdomwasn't too much different from the ronin class in Disgaea, but those katanas took a chunk out of your defense stat... ><

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Nah, Ronins already had a poor DEF multiplier in Makai Kingdom, so it really didn't make much of a difference (The DEF loss from Rising Sun doesn't really do much to a level 451 Ronin now, does it?).
Y'know, it kinda sucks to see them have to go. I liked using the Ronins as well. :< Ah, anyway, there's really no use complaining.

Re: Sidelined classes in Disgaea 2.
Quick question:
Are they gonna have the modernized weaponry like MK? I liked that I could use gun weapons with my "archer" class.
Pretty much my favs are female magicians and archers. I like the range and once you get a powered up magician, I love the huge aoe.
