Re: Sakura Wars

I agree highly that 3 definitely needs a release here as well. I'm actually playing through that again right now (my second playthrough, just finished Chapter 3 a few minutes ago), and I'm loving the heck out of it all over again. Despite the fact that the original cast is my favorite, SW3 may just be my favorite game in the series.

It's a shame 4 will no doubt never make it to the States, because I'm rather fond of it with it probably having the best art in the series, plus there is over a dozen possible endings, so there's plenty of replay value.

And it makes me mad that SW2 will also probably never make it... because I need my Orihime fix! emoticon

V episode 0 is fine by my book, and I was actually hoping they would release that with SWV as sort of a bonus disc (that hope was heightened when one of the screenshots NISA released was from that). My only gripe with E0 is the controls are a little shaky. Other than that, it was kind of fun to be able to control some Kobou in real time and not turn-based.

As for the SW1 PS2 remake, I finally got around to playing through that the other day and it was good to play through that game again (Saturn version 1st) with the updated graphics. My only gripe with this game was that it seemed the art took a step backward from the before mentioned (great art from) SW4.

And how about some love for "Mysterious Paris"? Ok, it's not your typical SW game, but it has it's moments. Plus it plays a lot like my all-time favorite game, "Snatcher" (now you know where the name comes from). So it definitely gets bonus points for that.

All in all with everything I've said here, the more SW the better. So here's hoping.

What I really want is the SW COLUMNS games. emoticon

Will get. Will get! Oh gyawd, I will get this game! First day (standard fare for me anyway)!!

Ever since I stumbled upon this franchise in me perpetual search for dating sim-like games in English (by the way, any suggestions?), I've wanted to see it here in the US, based on its apparent popularity.

Now...to get it on PS2 or Wii (or both?)? What do y'all suggest? Too many games to get in the Fall. Definitely, this is on the top of the list. In fact, I can't even remember the other games I wanted at this moment. I need to go lie down.

Mell & Ci are my favorites in the entire series, even though they're just NPCs. emoticon

I noticed, too. No idea why/how that happened.

If SLML does well enough that NISA decides to go back and release them all in order, I think they could: 1 Atsuki (PS2/Wii), 1&2 (PSN), 3 (PS2/Wii), and 4 (PS2/Wii) as well as V-0 (PS2/Wii) somewhere along the line. Gosh, that would keep them busy for years to come... haha

Ci is the best. Quite possibly my favorite character in the series and another reason I love "Mysterious Paris", because you can end with her as your favorite (as well as Mell and a few other NPCs).

I like that gameplan for the releases, aside from the PSN releases... I don't have a PS3. emoticon But I'd definitely buy one if they would release it there. I personally wouldn't be shocked that if 1&2 would make it here that they would be the PSP version.

For PSN, I meant downloadable for PSP. (The UMD had to load a couple seconds for each LIPS.)

Thanks for the info on that. I've been contemplating buying a PSP and Sakura Wars 1&2 somewhere down the line, but if it does that for EVERY LIPS feature, I might hold off. I'm a patient guy, but not that patient.

While we patiently wait for more localization details of SW:SLML to surface, here is an article about Sakura Taisen 3 that appeared in the March/April 2001 issue of the now-defunct Official Dreamcast Magazine:

Thanks for posting that. I actually still have that issue somewhere in box full of old videogame magazines. It's definitely interesting to see the outlook on the series back just less than a decade.

Yes, Sakura Taisen is not only about telling anime chicks how good their hair smells-there's a battle engine to deal with as well.

Haha, classic line.

Re: Sakura Wars

The end of that particular issue had an interview with then-SoA president (?) Peter Moore babbling on & on about what's left in store for Dreamcast. (This was just before its announced cancellation.) Quite a fun read in retrospect.

quote:

Don't remind me. I purchased SWV and SW1 (remake) and could only play up to about the halfway point of the game before the screen would just go black. I had to buy a Japanese PS2 just to finish the games. That set me back a bit. emoticon

Episode 0 and Mysterious Paris work fine on a US PS2 (with a mod or swap disc, of course). Not too sure about the PS2 version of SW3.

I used a DC-X for DC and based on horror stories and pictures of what it would take to mod a PS2, I quickly ordered a J-PS2 when the Sakura Taisen "World Project" was announced. I've bought over a dozen J-PS2 games in its lifespan, so it turned out to be a great deal. At first I had it stacked on top of my US-PS2, but when the slims came out later, I placed them side-by-side on a cooling rack (for baking cookies... or cooling lightweight consoles)!

We have seen many SRPGs in our time. Some were extraordinary and some were not so great. Though most SRPGs make you grind through their battle system to power up your characters, Sakura Wars revolutionizes this by combining Sim elements into the SRPG. No longer shall the game dictate what the player should experience. Instead, Sakura Wars allows the player to choose their own destiny. The player’s human interactions affect the story and power up the characters.
