I highly doubt NISA would have the audacity to charge that much.

But then again, DS games somehow got up to forty dollars...

Screw you, Nintendo. I'm not paying that much.

Those are just prices for Japan, if you were to buy these games from Japan. In the US, these are not standard prices. If you wish to buy the Japanese version of these games, this is what you'd have to pay. Games, overall, are way more expensive in Japan than here.

Pre-orders are up for the Japanese ver., which has the new covers for the games up :

La Pucelle Regular Edition
La Pucelle Limited Edition

I saw something earlier this week that made me think that.

They have a wider array of games over there, yet they charge more to sell them. What's the deal? Is that seriously the optimal pricing on the curve?

Does the average person get paid more in Japan than in America?!

...I don't understand it. emoticon

The standard of living is a little higher, but I remember that DVDs and video games have always, always been insanely expensive in Japan. Even VHS movies were like 60 dollars a piece, even when the yen was weak a few years ago.

Sometimes I wonder if some game companies sell at a loss when they bring over games to the US, because they sell for 2,000 or 3,000 yen less.

In theory, if a game had the same appeal in both the US and Japan, the potential market in Japan is significantly smaller than in the US. More than likely the games are priced to bring in a profit at the expected sales volume.

In the US, their choice in pricing seems to be much more limited, unless they want to reduce the price. Not many people are willing to pay a higher price for a game without some extras packaged in as a "limited" edition. The exception seems to be in the handheld markets, where game prices vary by $10-20 and some companies in particular can get away with consistently pricing their games at $5-10 above the average price on the system.

Yeah, I think it's just that there are so many more people buying games overseas than in Japan that they can get away with lower prices and still come out with a good profit. The price for living in a tiny island country, I guess.

That is true, it's rather curious how different gaming markets work. The falling pound sterling in the United Kingdom is causing rising prices on consoles and games. Could you imagine prices going up because your currency is weakening (if you live outside the UK)?

Tons of people complain about the price of video games in this day and age, but haven't they always been rather expensive? Gosh, I remember trying to buy a new copy of Lufia II from blockbuster and it would have cost me 70.00 USD, so I bought the used one instead for 35.00. This was about twelve years ago, when I was 10! I remember wanting a Super Nintendo for ages too, and begging my grandmother to buy me Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past in third grade because I got straight A's. I had to seriously beg for that, it was so expensive.

...Man, I remember a lot about my gaming background. Huh, I wonder how much that game was back then? I want to say 40 dollars, but that seems like too little...

Sorry about going off topic, but I like to think about how times evolve. Gaming has always been an expensive hobby.

While I appreciate the new artist's intent ("if ever there was doubt that..." emoticon ), NA was the only region to date which has never seen Ryogi's original art on La Pucelle's box cover. Here's hoping NISA can make a special consideration.

I'd be happy with some sort of reversible cover, I really like those.
