Bribing Senators

I read the tutorial from Pleinair (in the game), and he tells me that all you need to do to bribe a senator is go to the Dark Assembly, open the Senator List, point the cursor to the Senator I want to bribe, and then click to choose and item from my inventory to bribe them with.

HOWEVER, when I try to do this, my inventory window doesn't open. I don't get a sound or anything, that would otherwise indicate that I can or cannot bribe.

Can anybody clue me in on the proper way to bribe Dark Senators?

1. HE!!??

2. I said no such thing. I clearly stated to do it while the Assembly is in session, which it is not if you haven't proposed anything yet.

1. So, Pleinair's a girl?

2. So, when and how do I initiate the bribe, then?

Enter the Dark Assembly and select a character. You should be presented with a list of possible bills to submit to the assembly. Depending on where you are in the game there will be options like Create new character, Prinny Day, increase/decrease the shop inventory value, increase/decrease enemy level, etc. After selecting one of these options the screen should change and show whichever character you chose in front of the Assembly. If I remember correctly, you should be presented with a dialogue box to either "Begin the vote" or "Go back to the castle". Cancel out of this box and you will be presented with a cursor similar to when you are in battle. Move the cursor over to the various senators to see their position on the current bill. If you select a senator while in this mode your current inventory will appear and allow you to select which "gifts" to give. Once you are ready to begin the vote return your cursor to your character or select nothing to bring the dialogue box back.

Eh, I'm a little rusty on the matter.

Well you got it right anyway.

Just wanted to add that certain senators like certain items and they don't like others. You can tell by the description you get how well they like it. If they don't like it, they'll start to hate you more if you give it to them though, so be careful.

Honestly though, it's easier to just level up a good weapon and get some levels, then start up a small assembly and just kill them all.

True, but that isn't always an option at lower levels. Sometimes it's easier to bribe the highest level senator and use the combination trick to get your way.

Re: Bribing Senators

I had to bribe senators a lot in order to get into Cave of Ordeals and raise monster levels. Once I had a character strong enough to beat any senator, I never bribed again. emoticon

Here's a great bribing tip:
Whether a senator likes an item or not is completely random, and the quality and type of item maks no difference. You could just buy a bunch of the cheapest items in the game, make a low mana cost proposal (Extort Funds is good), give all the items that the senators REALLY like, and give up on the proposal. How much each senator likes you is recorded, but some proposals (like Extort Funds and Mysterious Seal) are always hard to win, no matter how much they like you...
