Re: Favourite Words

New favorite word!

'ovni'--spanish. In common usage as a word, though originally an acronym for 'objetos voladores no identificados', which means 'unidentified flying objects'! Fun! Ovni. Hee.

Rage.

I like this word, because it's descriptive, and describes how I feel right now. I'm so full of rage!

*shakes fist at computer, GIS, internet, internet company, Swedish bank, and Canadian bank*

Wow, Nurv, that reminds me of one of my RL friends....whenever he's angry, he says "So much rage..." in a very ominous voice...It would be scary, were he not built like a stick. ^^;;

Re: Favourite Words

coyote is a cool word

Umpqua (the only defined word from a languange and people completely wiped off the face of Earth) = Full Stomache - satisfied with food -- bountiful eating --

The story goes when an Umpqua Indian was aked what Umpqua means the indian rubbed his tummy like he was full.

I grew up in the Coquille and Umpqua valleys named after tribes not so long gone.

Re: Favourite Words

Booya! I love words with native origins, even though they usually get totally mangled so non-natives can pronounce them.

After much practice, I can correctly pronounce the real name of the native people who live in my area. emoticon

I like Chinook, the name of a warm wind that sweeps over the plains from the Rocky Mountains. Chinook is also the name of a trade language that originated between different native groups who spoke totally different languages. I think white traders learned it later too. How cool is that!? :}
