House rules

This is an initial draft. Sorry about having to use D&D classes in the adventures, but the biggest source of role playing adventures available to me is through D&D. As a result, I have to use these classes. I will try to keep the mysterious setting of Dragon Warriors when games mastering the adventures though. In addition, the “original” classes, i.e. those from the books, will be more “powerful” in general than the D&D classes. This is a draft though and I am open to your suggestions and comments on this.

Armour – shields add one to armour factor rather than having a separate roll for deflection. Bucklers have no benefit to armour factor against missile attacks, and large shields have an additional bonus to missile attacks (i.e. +2 rather than +1) but do note that large shields are cumbersome and not easy to carry about in dungeons, swim with etc.

Arcane spell casters – sorcerer, elementalist, mage, wizard, elf warrior mage and bard.
Divine spell casters – Cleric and Priest.

Sorcerer – able to use scrolls from any class that uses arcane Spells. Can use the staff’s of other sorcerers.

Mystic, able to cast spells when fighting, not affected by spell resistance, dead magic zones and anti magic fields.

Knight & Barbarian, no change till high ranks.

Assassin – no change

Elementalist – able to cast spells from arcane scrolls (though not able to write them) and use magic items limited to magic users. Able to read and write prime element language, able to speak secondary elemental languages. Darkness elementalist is able to speak and write both Abyssal and Infernal.

Warlock – no change

Mage, Wizard, Cleric, Bard, Priest and elf warrior mage all subject to spell disruption, in that if they take damage before a spell is cast in that round, then the spell is wasted. In addition, the rank of the caster is the MP equivalent of the spell for overcoming dispel magic (see later for more information).

Spell resistance – For Sorcerer, Elementalist and Warlock, roll d100+rank.
For cleric, mage, wizard, bard, elf warrior mage and priest, roll 2d10+rank.
If the total is above the SR score of opponent, spell takes effect.
(Mystic’s are not affected by spell resistance, nor by spells such as anti magic field and “dead magic” zones but are affected by dispel magic as before.)

Magic items – as normal for dragon warrior items. Any arcane spell caster can use an item that another arcane spell caster can use. Eg, an elementalist can use a wand of magic missiles etc. A sorcerer however is the only class that can use the wand/staff of another sorcerer.

Spell screen will prevent any D&D conversion class from casting a spell of 5th level or lower at the sorcerer/warlock, no matter what the rank of the opponent is.

Wall of magic will lose magic points dependent upon the level (not MP equivalent) of the spell hurled at it with regards to spells from the D&D conversion classes. It will for example lose one “point” if a 7th rank mage casts sleep at the sorcerer defended by Wall of Magic.

Dispel magic, will work in the normal manner, except, when a sorcerer uses it against a D&D conversion class spell, it has to overcome the caster level. Eg, in order to dispel an 8th level spell cast by a 17th rank mage, 17MP would need to be used. When a D&D conversion class uses dispel magic, they have a chance of dispelling spells of that have a higher MP equivalent.

Terminate enchantment, and a ring of negation, do not work against the MP equivalent when used against a D&D conversion class spell, but rather against the spell level, i.e. when used to dispel an 8th level spell cast by a 17th rank mage, 8MP would need to be used.

Lastly, if a player is going to be away for a few days, weeks etc, please post that this is to be the case, and if you want the character to be run by me as an NPC (which is a good way of the group avoiding certain death situations etc) or if you want one of the others to play him.

Nim.
