Some Enchanted Evening
I was told that I HAD to post this here...on penalty of...no rhubarb pie for a week

Some Enchanted Evening
Disclaimer: I don't own Murder, She Wrote. Wish I did, then I wouldn't have to write this thing. This was written all in one shot while listening to a song called "Little Moments". That song plays a huge part in this, but if you've never heard it, it doesn't make a difference. It's just a drabble, Seth's POV, and I rarely write first person, so go easy on the reviews please?
The moment was perfect. One of those moments you wish could last forever. Snow fell softly outside on a crisp winter night. It was cozy and warm in the house though. The fire crackled, and the colored lights on the Christmas tree threw pretty rainbows around the room. I could smell the sweet scent of Jessica's perfume as she lay on my shoulder, a blanket around us both.
The spell was broken when my arm fell asleep at exactly the moment Jessica did. It began to tingle but I just couldn't bring myself to move it and wake her up. The lights on the tree glinted off her golden hair and, I decided, all she was missing was a halo. After another few minutes the feeling of pins and needles in my arm subsided and it went completely numb. I forgot all about that though, as I thought back to the past year or so. I looked down at the woman asleep in my arms. The woman who had been my confidante, my comfort, and my best friend for more years than either of us would care to admit.
It was nearly a year and a half since things had changed between us. Time flies when you life is, for the most part, idyllic. It was when Michael Haggerty was here on assignment. That was the first time our relationship was really in danger, but we pulled through, and it was then we realized our feelings for each other went deeper than friendship.
I smiled to myself as I recalled a fishing trip we went on not long after that. Jessica was baiting her hook when her hand slipped and the hook sliced her finger. That was the only time I've heard that particular word come out of her mouth. I remember being so shocked I couldn't do anything but stare at her until I saw she was biting back tears. I quickly bandaged her finger, and we laughed about it the rest of the day. We didn't catch a single fish, but somehow that didn't seem to matter.
Then there was the time we tried to find a little hotel on a lake that Mort and Adele had been to, and said would be the perfect place to set a murder mystery. Mort's handwriting is awful at best, and when Jessica mis-read the directions, we ended up south of the middle of nowhere in torrential rain. So we stopped on the road for awhile, holding hands and singing along to the radio until the storm cleared.
Last summer was one of the worst summers I think I've ever had. Rachel Bolger, who had disappeared and was thought to be dead, came back and went on a killing spree. Jessica had horrible nightmares in which she saw the murder before it happened, but there was nothing she could do about it. Rachel was too fast. That put so much stress on Jessica, and I thought I was going to lose her. I'd never been so scared in my life. We survived it though, and now I think, as long as we're together we can survive anything.
Another memory, this time a happy one, flashed across my mind. My birthday a few months ago. She'd cooked a wonderful meal of lobster pasta, and for dessert, my favorite and hers as well, seven layer cake. But we were so caught up in our chess game in the next room that we both forgot about the cake until the smoke alarm in the kitchen went off. We had to open all the windows and the door in the kitchen to get the smoke out. The cake looked like an overgrown lump of charcoal. Jessica stood in the middle of the room, the wind from outside blowing her hair, looking positively heartbroken. I embraced her and told her I'd never forget this birthday, which made her smile.
I resurfaced from my memories to find Jessica gazing up at me. She had woken up, and shifted a little so now blood was circulating in my arm again.
"What were you thinking about?" she asked.
I smiled and hugged her. "Us."
"Funny, that's what I was dreaming about. Remember that fishing trip awhile back...?"
