The Historian I thought I'd start this off. I've just recently finished Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian. I'm a huge fan of the historical mystery/thriller genre like The Da Vinci Code. This one was particularly well done.
For those of you who haven't read it, it asks the question: what if Vlad the Impaler (Bram Stoker's model for Dracula) really WAS a vampire and how does one destroy him when his body is not at Lake Snagov like everyone always assumed it was?
I really liked the way the story of the past is told from the present, and how three different searches for Dracula are going on simultaneously throughout the book. The ending however, didn't seem as explosive or final as it should have been. Perhaps there is room for a sequel, after all, Rossi and Dracula's minions are still out there.
Re: The Historian I don't know if I could read this. I know you called it a thriller, but with Vlad the Impaler, I have to think it would fall into horror for me personally. I can't handle horror, blood, guts, etc. I am, essentially, a wimp. lol
Was it like that at all? You think I could get through it without staying up nights because of nightmares? lol
Re: The Historian I don't know, do you scare easily? The woman at the register when I bought it was terrified of it, but I didn't find it that scary. Depends on how sensitive you are, I guess. As far as I remember, there wasn't that much blood and gore...but I really can't say. I'd suggest reading it during the day to start with.
Re: The Historian I am a woman who must constantly remind herself "you're not in the box" while watching Criminal Minds, so I think I will take a pass. lol Still, I might pick it up for my mom. She is really into vampires and such.
