The Courage Consort

My book is The Courage Consort, by Michel Faber (I think I spelled his name right) and it's three short stories that all intertwine. I haven't started reading yet, but I will within the next day or so when I get my homework done. Should prove to be interesting though emoticon

Re: The Courage Consort

Well I've finally finished my book! I don't know who wrote the back of the book, but they obviously didn't read it. The three short stories are completely unrelated, and they get increasingly more bizarre as you get through the book.

I can't wait until everyone else reads this, I really want to know what you all think. For the most part, I liked it. The Courage Consort was I think my favorite story, I really liked his writing style. The Fahrenheit Twins, the last story, was incredibly weird, but I thought it was really good. The middle story was kind of boring, but overall, I really liked the book and I hope everyone else does too.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it out on the mail on Monday, but I'm not sure...is the post office open on Monday because of Easter? If not, then Tuesday, so Laura you should be getting it by the end of the week.

You know, it has been a week or more since I finished this book and I still don't know what to think about it.

The first piece was a little slow starting for me, but in the end that was my favorite of the three. I loved watching the characters grow. Ben was my favorite and it made me sad when he passed. I did not like the husband at all. Catherine was interesting, but I was annoyed by the fact that basically she was just bored all the time and wanted to be entertained. I was glad when she got over some of that.

I didn't know quite what to make of the other two. What did you think?

Oh, I am mailing this off to Stef tomorrow. emoticon

I wasn't really sure what to make of this book either. I think the first story was my favorite, although I liked Dagmar the best. I found Catherine annoying too. She was an unreliable narrator, too wrapped up in her own invented problems. I really wasn't expecting Ben to die at the end, but i think it works.

The second story was just incredibly boring to me, except for the part about the letter in the bottle. I think there should have been more mystery and less self-pity.

Finally, the third story, The Fahrenheit Twins was just...bizarre. I still don't know what to make of it. Just...weird.
