Surgin' General to Testify...
General Petraeus, the Surgin' General, is expected to testify today, with all 3 of the presidential candidates present and all 3 expected to take a shot at the general and on Iraq policy. McCain will no doubt praise the general for the wonderful surge, which has reduced the levels of violence in Baghdad and Iraq in general to levels almost exactly the same as they were 4 years ago! what an accomplishment! after 4000 soldiers deaths, about 20,000 wounded and 600 billion dollars or so, we are roughly right where we were 4 years ago! this Surge is magnificent! I can't wait until 4 more years go by, if McCain somehow gets elected, and the levels of violence is roughly the same as now, and we have lost another 4000 soldiers and spent another 600 billion dollars! that way we will know we have won, i guess. or something. won what, i don't know. I guess the right to lose more soldiers, kill more iraqis and spend hundreds of billions of more dollars.

Re: Surgin' General to Testify...
What, exactly, is the point of having the candidates question General Petraeus?

to find out more about iraq, about what our soldiers might expect as far as longer tours or multiple tours, what plans there might be for withdrawal, or if it looks likely we may need even more troops to bolster the puppet government we have in charge right now. In other words, Congressional oversight, their constitutional duty. other than that, not much.

so try to ignore it and hope it goes away? that is kind of your cynical answer to all the big problems this country faces, isn't it? why vote for one party or the other...they all lie. why have any ideals, why give a ****, why do what we can, even if we know it may not be enough...we are doomed to failure. geez. pessimistic much? you are right, nothing will change if we DON'T GET OFF OUR DEAD ASSES AND DEMAND IT. and no one will get elected that might kick the can down the road a little bit further in the right direction if we lump all the candidates and all the parties in the same, lousy group. there is a lesser of two evils, nine times out of ten that being the democrat...or we can waste our vote because the democrat ain't perfect and vote for losers who don't have a chance and then ***** because ****heads like bush get elected and then re-elected.
