Simple - but complicated bug
PowerPC Mac - 1.5 GB/733 GHz CPU
MacOSX 10.4.11
RailModeler 3.1.4 - registered
TrainPlayer 3.2.0.1 - demo, waiting on key
Construct a simple layout
Railset - Peco HO Finescale
Select a 3-way switch
Select a long Y switch, rotate 180 degrees
Connect the lower track of the Y to the 3-way top track
Connect flex track to the other ends of each switch.
Everything looks fine
Export to TrainPlayer
Import to TrainPlayer
You can see by the diagram that TrainPlayer doesn't understand the 3-way,
or RailModeler didn't export it correctly. A Train won't run thru the 3-way.
Next, but possibly related bug
Remove all previous track elements
Railset - Peco HO Finescale
Select a Short Y
Extend the Short Y with another short Y on the upper track
Put another Short Y on the drawing not connected to anything
Rotate it 180 degrees
Connect the new short Y's upper track to the lower track of the first Short Y
Extend all tracks using flextrack
Export to TrainPlayer
Import to TrainPlayer
You can see by the diagram that TrainPlayer doesn't understand the Short Ys, or RailModeler didn't export it correctly.
Remove all previous track elements
Repeat the above with the Long Y - however now the geometry looks correct in TrainPlayer.
And trains will run.
I'm reporting this to you folks first - if you don't think it's your bug, then I'll report it to the TrainPlayer folks.
Hopefully I've provided enough info. Feel free to ask for more.
I'm a new registered user of RailModeler and this is the first real issue - and it may not even be your fault, it may be the TrainPlayer folks.
Later,
Gil

Re: Simple - but complicated bug
My experience with Trainplayer suggests the 3-way can work, but the switch position indication is misleading. The symptoms you describe point more to the railset than Trainplayer. If the tracks actually connect geometrically, then Trainplayer can understand that there is a turnout there. You can prove this by entering Tracklayer mode inside Trainplayer and deleting and redrawing the 3-way elements that appear not connected. Not much help, but another thing to check is that you have the latest Peco railsets for Railmodeller.

Re: Simple - but complicated bug
I already had the newest version of RailModeler and it contains the newest Railsets. The Peco ones in particular have the same dates as the Railset Library page describes.
It looks like an issue with the Peco railsets, especially the one I want to use - Peco HO Finescale.
I tried some more tests using the Atlas Railsets - they worked fine.
I used the Railset Editor to look at a copy of the Peco HO Finescale Railset. The small Y seems to have 3 active components, not just the two that one would expect. The 3-way is broken in a similar way.
I need to read the Railset Editor manual in an attempt to understand this.
I'll try and make some corrections, even in TrainPlayer, but the switching layout I'm trying to generate is one that I want to build for real and I wanted to get some ideas of how it worked - but since most of the switches I chose don't work so well (not all at), it's being a real pain.

Re: Simple - but complicated bug
I'm not sure what you mean by active components, is that active joints? The Y's should have three active joints and the three way should have four. I looked at the railset with the Railset Editor and the short Y (SLE-197) appears correct, but since it doesn't work for you, you could add two short segments as with the large Y (SLE-198 the first and last components in the list). You would have to deactivate the outward joints on the short Y curved segments and then overlay the short segments on top of the outward ends of the curved segments and then activate the outward joints on them. This same structure also exists on the three way, so it should work. You could save this modified railset in your documents folder and use it until Jan has a chance to look at the Peco Finescale. He knows way more about this than I do.

Re: Simple - but complicated bug
Hello there,
thanks for the detailed description!
We'd like to fix it for the upcoming maintenance release of RailModeller (next couple of days), maybe you could just send me the particular layout and I can have a look at the intermediate TP-export file and how TrainPlayer interprets it?
Thanks!
