Vintage Speed and Powersports Monthly magazine combine to bring the 1957 Chevy Funny Car of Dave and Geri Thwaites to the Riverland Auto Expo presented by the Riverland Motorsports Club Saturday November 15th.

 

The Mildura based Chevy Funny Car was imported from the USA and has been displayed across Australia for the past 12 months at various shows and exhibitions. The car combines many features, from its classics 50s body lines which capture the era of rock ‘n’ roll through to it’s pure race car breeding.

 

The Vintage Speed/Powersports Monthly ’57 Chevy was built in California by a select group of fine race car builders and tradesman and is one of only a handful to be created. The car has a heritage that includes legendary drag racing heroes including Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen whose company Mongoose Bicycles is a worldwide phenomenon. Tom also helped to put Hot Wheels toys on the world stage with his range of toy dragsters and funny cars.

 

The one-piece fibreglass 57 Bel Air replica body has be narrowed and lengthened to fit over the 125 inch race nitro spec chrome moly chassis. The monstrous all aluminium 523 cubic inch alcohol fuelled engine is a piece of Aussie motorsport history having been developed by Sydney’s Chris and Phil McGee of McGee fuel injection fame.
