Smallville Season 9 News and Spoilers No Posting Updated 10/25

Multiple reports say that Erica Durance will be back for Season 9, with some unverified rumors saying that she'll be on for 17 episodes. In an interview with E! Online, executive producer Kelly Souders confirmed that she will be continuing: "Erica is the one person we can say yes to. We know in the mythology that it's Clark and Lois forever," Souders said. Also possible for Smallville's future: Sam Witwer may be continuing with the series, playing Zod. Faora did say that Davis Bloome resembled his father, after all... Aaron Ashmore's Smallville stay is over, after the events of "Doomsday." [...] Smallville has sent out a casting notice for a role called "Mason." Here's what they're looking for: " MASON : Late 20's early 30's. He's a handsome charismatic charmer who savors life. He appreciates good food, loves fast cars and sees beauty in every woman. There isn't a detail in life that eludes his senses. He is a master of seduction... knowing what everyone wants and needs before they do. But don't let his magnetism fool you. There's more than meets the eye. His intelligence can't be matched. He outmaneuvers everyone in his path. Though he longs to find a home, that vulnerability can be twisted -- making him a force to be reckoned with." [...] Here are some details from the scenes that will be used to cast Mason. Be warned, this may not be the way the character will ultimately be: The scene takes place on the Queen Industries jet, and involves Mason with Tess. Tess is rushing onto the jet and is surprised by Mason's voice, who asks her if she's "All work and no play?" Tess tells Mason that she hoped he would have mastered more than a lexicon of cliches by now. He tells Tess she can stand down, becuase "it's me," and Tess says that "precisely who 'you' are is a little nebulous at the moment." Mason reminds her that that is "exactly the way you like it." He then keeps trying to find ways to try to seduce her. It sounds like Tess might "betray" Mason. In a later scene, Tess returns to the Luthor Mansion to find him inside, waiting. He mentions that she "turned on him" but he "survived it," and then works on psychoanalyzing Tess yet again. He tells Tess "I trusted you!" and tells her that he was the one shot she had at a fairy tale ending. She pulls a gun on him, and reminds him "You still need me." He realizes she's right. A source tells me that although Sam Witwer was invited back for Season 9 - for possibly several episodes - at this time the portrayer of Davis/Doomy has no plans to return. Source: TV Guide Online

Lots of reports on relationships for Season 9, some of which are conflicting. E! Online says this about Chloe and Clark: "We're actually hearing of a "strained relationship" between Chloe and Clark next season on Smallville. Those two will always work together, and they will always be your "Chloe and Clark," but expect some tension in season nine. - EW's Michael Ausiello is proclaiming that Season 9 will have "full tilt Clois."

Tess Mercer is going to be in some big trouble when the new season of Smallville kicks off. In the season-nine promo shown at Comic-Con, Tess is fighting with Major Zod himself. Cassidy exclusively tells us, "We start out heavy. In the first episode, we start out really going at it, and it's really fun." So is Tess biting off more than she can chew this season on Smallville? "She has to figure out whether she's screwed the pooch or whether she's doing a good thing. She hasn't figured it out yet, but she absolutely will," says Cassidy. Source: Kristin on E!Online

"We're introducing Callum Blue as Major Zod, before he even turns into General Zod, so we get to see his trajectory into becoming the villain he's known as. We've never had a Kryptonian living on Earth with Clark for an entire season, and to see how that affects Clark's journey," says [executive producer Brian Peterson]. "We're going to be exploring a lot of that this year, without trying to do too much time jumping and alternate universes. We're going to try to explore the relationship between Zod and Clark, and what if that were different? Zod and Jor-El, and what if that had been different in the past? In the first six episodes, we're going to get to it pretty quickly." [Here is a rundown of what was revealed at Comic-Con:] "The world's greatest hero has risen" appears onscreen along with the Superman logo. A montage of Clark on his path to becoming a hero. "And he is not alone," says the preview. Followed by shots of each Justice League member who has fought with him: Aquaman, Black Canary, Impulse, Cyborg, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Green Arrow, the Legion and Watchtower. Studio reps confirm to us that Laura Vandervoort is not returning to the show, despite her appearance in the preview. The introduction of Zod, who's brought several friends with him. He's seen fighting toe-to-toe with Tess. Lois is seen fighting in the future. Chloe relies on the protection of a gun this season. Brian Austin Green's Metallo has a very sinister look to him. He's seen with the Kryptonite power source on his chest, iconic for the Metallo character. There is a hot and steamy love scene between Lois and Clark. Heavy petting and makeout sesh included. For a split second, it seems that Lex has appeared on screen, but it could be our imagination. Clark has a nifty new supersuit. It's all black, no spandex, with the silver Superman logo on the front and a long black trench coat that doubles as a cape. Chloe and Clark's relationship will be very strained. Said executive producer Kelly Souders , "They have a little bit of a rocky start." Erica Durance is in 18 episodes this season. "I think you guys are going to be pretty excited this year," Erica said regarding the Clark and Lois progression. "Lois is dealing with being smitten with Superman and still finds Clark irritating." This season is going to be "spicy," she added. Lois and Clark will definitely grow closer this year, but there's a love triangle between Clark, Lois and the Blur. "Just as Clark falls for Lois, she's falling for someone else," said Peterson. A relationship for Chloe and Clark is "dead in the water," said Allison. Clark is preoccupied with other women, and Chloe is dealing with the loss of Jimmy while stepping into a more powerful position with the supes. Regarding the new Superman suit, Kelly explained that Clark doesn't just show up to a tailor and figure it out the first time. The producers know there is a long arc for Clark to become Superman, and it's a bumpy road. Justin Hartley said we will see a lot more of the Green Arrow this year. He's going to be struggling in a dark place. Peterson added that in the first eight episodes you "will see him hit rock bottom." The producers said Metallo (Brian Austin Green) is a big part of the first two episodes. The ninth season also brings the return of Toyman, and we'll see Roulette as well. Kelly said they do have a series finale planned if the ninth season is their last; however, it could change if they are picked up for a 10th season. Geoff Johns , who wrote "Legion" this year, is writing another episode this season and said it will be "Justice Society of America." Tom Welling is directing two episodes this season, while Allison Mack will direct one. When asked if Lex was actually dead, Peterson said, we all know from the mythos that Lex is "absolutely not dead." Peterson said they are brainstorming for a Green Arrow sidekick story. Clark and Oliver's relationship will be tested this year. There's jealousy because Clark has powers Oliver doesn't have-and for the sheer fact that Lois and Clark are on their way to a relationship, while Ollie attempts to rekindle things with Lois. When asked if the love scene between Lois and Clark is a dream, Peterson said, "It is one reality we explore in the show." "Lois comes back from the future, and she starts getting flashes, and she thinks she has amnesia. She thinks something is wrong with her," said Durance. "I know that they're going to develop all sorts of scenarios for her to try to piece all those things together, like a big puzzle to figure out what's going on, and then maybe, be the linchpin, key answer to some of Clark's questions, which is a different place for her to be." As seen in the preview, Chloe was wielding a gun. Allison explained that she's on her own this season, since the rest of the supes are off saving the world: "We'll see Chloe experimenting with some different paths. We're definitely going to see her trying new things. Always with the intent to save the world, but maybe not necessarily the way that Clark Kent has done." We actually meet a young version of Zod. He's not quite a general yet, toting the name Major Zod. Callum explains that Zod is very manic and not quite in control of the troops he's brought with him. In his mind, Krypton has not been destroyed yet, and he is unaware of Clark's existence. Because of the time parallel caused by Zod, Souders and Peterson teased a possible appearance by Jor-El, though we'll find out more in the second episode. Source: Kristin on E!Online

Episode 9.10: "Disciple" Airdate: January

A number of online news sources of Superman Home Page are reporting that Steve Bacic has been cast in the role of the Dark Archer for an up-coming episode of "Smallville" on the CW Network. The episode is to be titled "Disciple." Steve Bacic's character is Green Arrow's mentor, teaching Oliver (Justin Hartley) archery skills, though he don't need them now. Comic book and Green Arrow fans are speculating whether or not this is the same character known as the villain Merlyn the Archer in the DC comic books. Source: Comic Book Movie

Oliver will meet the bad guy version of the Green Arrow (a.k.a. the Dark Archer) in episode 10. Source: The Ausiello Files

Episode 9.12: "Society" Airdate: January 29th?

As it turns out, Hawkman and Doctor Fate will both be part of the Smallville incarnation of the Justice Society. This goes hand in hand with DC Comics, where both characters have notable histories with the team and its various incarnations, dating back to the 1940s. Playing Hawkman will be an actor who brings his own notable sci-fi following to the role. Michael Shanks, who has recently been appearing on Burn Notice, but is best known as Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1, will portray the classic DC hero. Doctor Fate will be played by Brent Stait, who had an ongoing role on Andromeda as Rev Bem. Stait also has experience in the Stargate world, having appeared on SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, along with the direct-to-DVD movie Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods. Geoff Johns recently wrote on Twitter that the third member of the Justice Society was "A girl. Who likes stars," which all but ensures it's Courtney Whitmore, AKA Stargirl, played by Britt Irvin (Aliens in America). Source: IGN

Andrea Potter: 35 - 55 yrs old. A heavyset, imposing and ruthless African American woman. She has sinister plans for the citizens of Metropolis.Do not limit your suggestions to heavyset. This role is established in Episode #912 but is a reccuring guest star. Source: SpoilerTV

This winter, the Justice Society of America, whose members include Hawkman, Spectre, Doctor Fate and the Atom, come out of retirement to give "the screwed-up guys of the next generation a needed smack down," says comic book author Geoff Johns, who wrote last season's Legion of Superheroes episode and is also penning a big-screen Flash feature film for Warner Bros. "They're the Mystery heroes who started it all-like the Watchmen." According to DC Comics lore, the JSA is a World War II-era team of aging superheroes who exist in an alternate reality universe known as 'Earth Two.' Popular members include Hawkman, Spectre, Hourman, Doctor Fate and the Atom, along with alternate grey-haired versions of Superman and Batman. Johns won't say which members he's writing in to the mid-season episode (it'll be based on legal clearances), except to say they'll be in their 40's and mainstays Jay Garrick (the original Flash) and Alan Scott (the original Green Lantern) will not be included. "It's going to be about them coming out of retirement to give these screwed up guys of the next generation a needed smack-down." And remember old Perry White, last seen as an alcoholic tabloid reporter in season three (played by Michael McKean)? Peterson says 'The Chief' may finally be "working his way to the Daily Planet." The guest cast is assumed but not confirmed, as [writer Geoff] Johns has stated that the extension to 2 parts was to ensure that "Hawkman, Dr. Fate, and Stargirl are done right." "PattyLaurie" has said that Lois will be appearing in the second part. Source: KryptonSite
