90210 season 2 recaps

Tonight on "90210," the focus shifts back to the kids: missing an adopted kid, sleeping with a man who has kids, and possibly creating a kid in a cabana.
The premiere episode starts on the last day of summer school, which is where everyone landed after Annie blew the whistle on the alcohol-fueled prom party. It takes us through an end-of-summer bash at the Malibu Sands Beverly Hills Beach Club and then school starts. I always thought summer school ended a good few weeks before the fall semester started, but that is really neither nor there.
Naomi & Liam (& Teddy & married guy)
Let's start with I Moan, shall we? And that's the last time I will call her that. Naomi has spent the summer schtupping a married man with kids, which she didn't know until just now. Oops. Once she finds out, she sets her sights on new boy Teddy. Except he used to date Adrianna, so no luck there. Eventually she cries to her girlfriends (Ade, Naomi and Silver are the new 3 Musketeers, apparently) that it's all because she can't stop thinking about Liam, who conveniently shows up at school just as she says this.
He tries to talk to her, but she runs off crying. I wonder how that conversation would've gone? "So... sorry I've been away all summer at military school. I slept with your sister, not your friend Annie. How was your summer?"
Silver & Dixon
Everyone's favorite 90210 couple has been on the outs all summer, but patches things up at the end-of-the-summer beach party, only to be foiled when new boy Teddy "accidentally" tells Dixon about Silver getting text messages from "Ethan" (and by "Ethan" I mean "some guy in the production department because Ethan is gone"). Dixon tells Silver he's through with her. Anybody else get the sense that Teddy did that on purpose to get Silver's silver tongue down his bleached-blonde throat? Just me?
Adrianna & Navid
New good-girl Ade wants to take things slowly and not fall back into her old boozing and drugging and whoring ways. She also gets a little sad when she sees a baby girl at the beach club. Navid TOTALLY understands... that he'll never get to be a man. He is frustrated, particularly since her first love just came to town in the form of a tennis-playing summer-camp-choreography-knowing-Robert-Redford-type named Teddy. Poor Navid. He even tried to arrange a romantic cabana for their first time together, but ended up tossing the cabana keys to a random drunk dude named Mark when it became clear Navid wasn't gettin' any.
Annie & random drunk dude named Mark
Annie gets stranded at the beach party thanks to her jerky brother Dixon. Just as an aside, Dixon can get off his effing high horse and stop demanding that Annie apologize for calling the cops. First of all, I have no sympathy for the underage drinkers. Not saying I didn't do it, but I knew that if I got caught, I'd get in trouble. Don't go blaming your sister because you were doing something you shouldn't've been doing.
Secondly, that entire party freaked out on Annie's ass and practically DARED her to call the cops. After that kind of humiliation? I would've called the cops too. Naomi and her band of overprivileged friends can bite me.
Seriously, I don't love Annie as a character, but I totally side with her on this one over Dixon. She doesn't owe him squat and he can stop being so self-righteous.
So... Annie gets stranded at the beach party and random senior Mark offers her a drink. Do I smell a drinking problem storyline? Annie partakes because not only is she a social leper but she is also a vehicular manslaughterer, as her hit-and-run victim died in the hospital earlier that day (he had been in a coma).
Anyway, they get drunk and when Navid flips Mark his cabana keys, Mark takes her inside. After a little cajoling, Annie (probably) sleeps with him. We don't know for sure, but that is what is implied later when Mark shows pictures on his phone of naked Annie to his buddies and Naomi overhears, snatches his phone away and sends the picture to herself.
That Naomi, she's a keeper.
The Adults
Apparently Grandma Wilson has "a show in Vegas," whatever that means, which is sad because no more Lucile Bluth. Kelly and Mr. Mathews are MIA and the Wilsons are only there briefly to show us that the Wilson family has moved into a more modest house.
Mystery
At the very end of the episode, we find out that it was Teddy's convertible that was behind Annie after prom when she hit John Doe. Was Teddy driving? We don't know yet.
Thoughts and other Tidbits
* At the beginning when the three girls went to the club, I applaud Ade for having a healthy-looking body and that's all I'm going to say about that.
* Though I will give AnnaLynne McCord some credit: when she was playing tennis, did you see those guns? Holy cow.
* The episode ends with Naomi, Silver and Ade strutting down the hall in slow-mo, like Heathers or Plastics or Oh-Niners. What should we call them? One-Oh-ers? Eat-a-Sandwich-ers? 16-You're-23-if-You're-a-Day-ers?
* Finally, I like that Annie's accident has been turned into a mystery. I can only take so much soapy drama for so long before I need something to keep my tuning in. It's why I enjoyed the pilot of "Melrose Place" more than the pilot of "90210" from last year. There's a hook to keep me coming back.

Tonight on "90210," Naomi sends the sex text because she's a horrible, horrible wench.
Annie & Her Quickly Spiraling-Out-of-Control Life
Silver tips Annie off to the "sex text" of her floating around and Navid tips off Dixon. Dixon acts like he doesn't care... but he does.
She confronts Mark the Gross Dude about it and stomps on his cell, but he warns her that Naomi has a copy of the sext too. Annie tries to get Liam to talk to Naomi about them but he says he did. The reason Naomi won't believe him is because he won't tell her who he had sex with.
Annie pleads with Naomi not to send the sext and Naomi just wants her to admit she had sex with Liam. Annie admits it and Naomi looks shocked. She allllmost doesn't send the text but then she does (after some goading from her sister).
Finally, Annie finds out Teddy is the one who found the hit-and-run body. Man, the hits just keep on coming for our girl Annie.
Silver & Dixon
Silver is obsessing about Dixon and her new BFFs advise her to wait a week before she ambushes him with apologies about Ethan but of course she can't. Dixon pretends he doesn't care... but he does. Meanwhile, he bonds with Liam and Teddy at surf team tryouts. They have a surf team? I would love to see these three be the boy BFFs. Liam assures Dixon that he didn't sleep with Annie. He pretends he doesn't care... but he does.
When the team is posted, all three guys make it and celebrate with manly hugs and high-fives. So. Cute. Silver calls him after he makes it and sees him refuse to answer and she dissolves into tears. Is the bipolar stuff sneaking its way back?
Oh, and... Dixon punches Annie's sex-text-taker and Silver doesn't believe Annie that it was Naomi who sent the text. Because she's an idiot sometimes.
Navid & Adrianna
Navid is fixated on pretty-boy Teddy and his history with Adrianna and he is also recruiting for The Blaze. He gets Silver, Adrianna and a guy who has heard about a "sex text" of Annie. Navid shoots it down but when a girl suggests covering Teddy the Tennis Pro, Navid actually thinks about covering the sex text. Gross, Navid.
Ade gets Teddy to agree to an interview, which gives him a chance to ask her about her life (read: pregnancy) and they bond. Navid then interviews Teddy for The Blaze and it's awful. Navid is a total **** to Teddy. TOTAL. It's SO out-of-character, I don't like it. Neither does
Adrianna. She calls him on his jealousy and then leaves with Teddy. Yeah, Navid sucks.
Later he apologizes to Ade but says he doesn't want her to be friends with Teddy. She balks at this because A) it's pretty controlling and B) he doesn't trust her.
Naomi the She-Devil & Liam
Liam tells Naomi he didn't sleep with Annie but she doesn't believe him. At home, Jen Clark has become best buddies with Liam's mom and gets her help in keeping him away from Naomi because he "caused her a lot of pain." Ooooh, Jen Clark is a good villain.
Speaking of good villains, Naomi agrees to a date with a techno weenie so that he'll show her how to send an anonymous text. A sex text, I suspect. Liam comes to see Naomi anyway and instead finds Jen Clark, who warns him that if he spills the beans Naomi won't believe him. He then calls her a ***** and punches their door, which I see as a bit weird because he wasn't THAT mad. It really came out of nowhere.
We also get to meet Liam's evil stepdad. Oh, Bo Duke. I don't like you mean. (Forget Jonathan Kent, he'll always be Bo Duke to me.)
Mr. Mathews & Jen Clark
Mr. Mathews picks her up at... is that the house they bought with Naomi's trust fund? Holy crap. Except Jen double-booked and stands him up for an "old friend" named "Gregory." And she sounds so British all of a sudden. Ugh.
We finally get to see Principal Wilson again when he plays some ball with Ryan. Harry advises Ryan that Jen is bad news. Nope, sorry. That's what he SHOULD'VE done. Instead he tells Ryan to stick with it. So Ryan leaves her a card and a necklace and she responds by having sex with him on his desk at school.
However, Jen assures Naomi that she's keeping an "economically-challenged teacher around" so that she doesn't get labeled a gold-digger. I hope that's true and not a "she's just covering because she has REAL feelings" thing because... barf.
Jen also advises Naomi that their mom refused to believe their dad was cheating and Naomi is a fool to think Liam didn't sleep with Annie. It goads Naomi into sending the text. Manipulative, innit she?

Annie's Smirking Revenge
Annie gets grounded by her parents for the topless picture, which seemed excessive to me. She also gets "slut" graffitied on her locker. Did she score a 14 on the purity test like Veronica? Her revenge is to confront Naomi. The first go-round, Silver and Ade totally believe Naomi like the little Heathers they are now.
The second go-round, on Teddy's yacht, goes a little better, with Annie confronting Naomi with Skeazy Mark and then confessing to Naomi (with Liam standing there) that she and Liam were actually sleeping together the whole time and used to cuddle and make fun of her and how everybody who loves Naomi loves Annie more. YOU GO, ANNIE! Also, Annie made a deal with Mark so he'd help her and we don't know what her end of the bargain is. Uh oh.
Silver & Naomi
Silver decides that even though what Naomi did was gross, after how "cruel" Annie was to Naomi she can't really blame her. UM, WHAT? WTF SILVER!!! Sending a topless text is SO far beyond the pale even if Annie DID sleep with Liam. If a girl did that to ME in high school... forget cruel. I'd only need a .45 and a shovel. I doubt anybody would miss her.
They bond like the Sisterhood of the Cuckoo Pants and it's pretty barf-worthy. I expect better from you, SILVER.
Dixon & Sasha Fierce
Dixon meets a hot baseball-loving DJing chick who is also like 25, so what does he do? Pretends to be a music executive who drives a lambourghini. As one does. When Sasha shows up to DJ Teddy's yacht party, he says he's old friends of the Montgomerys and in the end they jet off to Napa in Navid's lambourghini. This should end well. Never trust a big butt and a smile, Dixon.
Navid, Teddy & Ade
Navid apologizes to Ade and then Teddy confronts him about the whole "I hate your breathing guts" thing. Navid thinks Teddy is sleazy, but it turns out the sex scandal at Exeter was Teddy covering for his "scholarship kid" roommate so said kid wouldn't get kicked out. Uh huh. Sure it was, blonde guy who eats ivy and rows boats.
Sure enough, not 5 minutes later down in the galley, Teddy tries to see Adrianna's galley. She doesn't kiss him and excuses herself, but there was hesitation there. Later, Navid is now all "rah-rah Teddy" and wants to throw him a welcome back party. Ade is strangely quiet.
The Wilsons
We have a delightful new plot device in which Debbie and Harry are having marital problems. They are fighting over how to raise the kids and he turns to Kelly for advice. He and Kelly bond, Debbie is jealous and I sense they are creating this fighting for a love triangle.
That makes me angry because A) there is no precedent of the Wilsons having problems and I don't like things thrown at me from nowhere. If this was going to be a thing, it should've started episodes ago. Have a plan, WRITERS and B) can't Kelly and Harry be good platonic friends? What is wrong with that? I loved their relationship and now I'm mad.
Liam
After Annie pulls her whole "we were sleeping together the whole time" thing, Liam tells Dixon his sister is a psycho, then goes home to his workshop and gets out some blueprints. Um, you're the psycho, you sleeping-with-girlfriend's-sister-plotting-to-like-blow-up-the-school guy.

Annie the Crier
Turns out Homeless Man is Joe Herman, he went to West Bev and has bequeathed $100,000 to the school. When his nephew becomes front and center in the story, Annie tells him she's sorry about his uncle and almost loses it. He looks suspicious. Later, he asks Annie to go for a ride with him and when she begs off, he spins a tale of sadness and loss until she agrees. They sit on his car and stargaze. I'm the suspicious one. The nephew is on to her.
Dixon the Porn King
Dixon is living the life of luxury with some help from Navid. D is wining and dining Sasha all over town... until they get a flat tire on the "lambo," she pops the trunk, and then finds MOUNTAINS of pornography inside. Dixon spins it as he's in the money side of the porn industry and she seems to buy it, but later tails him to his house and sees him hugging Debbie at the front door. Doh!
Ade & Navid the Fornicators
Adrianna gets an audition and lands the part, but Navid is a total asshat about it because he's scared she'll go back to her drugging ways. At least that's what he says, but I think it's just because he's insecure and doesn't trust her.
Of course, she probably shouldn't be trusted since she turns to Teddy for comfort and they make out (which Silver sees). Ade then turns down the part, declares her love for Navid and tells him they've waited long enough to have sex. Yeah, that ought to go over like gangbusters. Sleeping with a guy out of cheater's guilt is ALWAYS the ticket for true love.
Liam the Genius
Liam tries once again to talk to Naomi and Jen interferes, so he blackmails Jen into coming clean to Naomi by threatening to tell Naomi that Jen is married to a French Baron and is flat broke. Masterfully, Jen beats him to the punch, telling Naomi about the French guy and no-money situation first and all it does is garner Naomi's sympathy.
However, when Jen tells Liam that his plan won't work, Liam records the conversation on his cell phone. Jen actually comes out and says that "Naomi won't believe that [they] slept together." Ooooh, nice!

Tonight on "90210," Jackie Taylor reaches out to her daughter Silver... because she has cancer.
Silver & Jackie
After spying her daughter at an AA meeting (for Adrianna), Jackie reaches out to Silver in the form of a car. Silver shows up at Jackie's AA meeting to humiliate her in front of all her peers and storms out, telling Jackie she is dead to Silver. Which leads Jackie to call Ade and tell her that she has cancer, which Ade relays to a stunned SIlver.
Annie & Creepy Nephew
The creepy nephew of the guy Annie hit with her car is still hanging around, talking to her about "Metropolis" and taking her to see a band. There is obviously a romance brewing, which is totally interesting, but not enough of the plot this week to dwell on.
Liam, Naomi & "CU"
Naomi desperately wants to go to "CU," a fake university in California. I guess "90210" doesn't have the clout the "West Wing" had to use a real university's name. Anyway, Naomi befriends the Dean's son because her test scores aren't good enough to get in there and Liam thinks she has moved on, causing him to delete the audio file of her sister Jen admitting she slept with Liam. Wuss.
Ade, Navid, & Teddy
Navid is King of the World after having slept with Ade, which he does not hide from Teddy. Teddy then stages a double date with his good buddy Navid and kisses Ade when they both go use the bathroom. Nice. Ade doesn't know what to do and Silver knows about the Teddy kiss
Dixon & Statutory Rapist Sasha
Sasha follows Debbie to her mani/pedi and learns that Debbie is Dixon's "mom." HAHAHA! She then is charmed by underage Dixon and ends up sleeping with him. Classy.

Tonight on "90210," Annie + Jasper, Silver moves in with Jackie, Ade blows it with Navid and Harry calls Debbie "Kelly." OOPS.
Kelly, Silver & Jackie
Silver has to tell Kelly about Jackie's cancer. Kelly balks at first, not wanting to get sucked back into Jackie's life and drama. Silver goes to see Jackie and finds out she's got about three months left. Jackie asks Silver to move in with her for the time being.
Kelly goes to see Jackie and tells her about Silver being bipolar and how good they're doing and that Jackie should leave Silver alone. Silver is mad about Kelly's meddling and they fight and Silver eventually goes over to Jackie's house to move in.
Annie & Jasper
Romance is a-brewing and Annie's sex-photo-taking booty call Mark is actually a bit jealous. Also, what's with the Columbine joke? It's like they thought if they dug back 10 1/2 years it wouldn't be distasteful. What, they didn't feel they could use "Virginia Tech?" Ugh.
Anyway, Mark asks Annie to hang out with him and SHOCKINGLY she turns down the creepy dude who took a picture of her boobs. He then tells her that Jasper is a psycho who pulled a knife on someone and she should stay away, so Annie gives Jasper the cold shoulder. Et tu, Outcast Annie?
She then thanks Mark for warning her about Jasper, he apologizes to her again and she agrees to hang out with him. Oh gross. He took a topless photo of you, ANNIE! So naturally she goes to the beach with him, he tries to take things too far and Jasper saves her. Oh this is so vintage 90210, I love it! But Annie is an idiot, just for the record. Not only for messing around with skeazy Mark but also for getting involved with the NEPHEW OF THE MAN SHE RAN OVER.
Jasper takes Annie home and tells her the knife story isn't true. She tells him she's no longer scared off and appears to move in for a kiss. Later, we see Jasper use a knife to mark up and blow a tire out of Mark's car.
Jen & Naomi
While riding horses, Jen asks for $100,000 for a lawyer to get money from her French husband. Naomi is all,"No way, you signed a prenup and someone needs to be responsible with money," so Jen is total ***** to her because that's how she rolls. Break a leg, Jen's horse.
Jen makes up with Naomi, telling her she's moving out temporarily. It's another ploy by masterful Jen to make Naomi feel sorry for her. Sigh. Offfff course Naomi writes her a big fat check and offff course Jen uses the money to buy a big expensive racehorse. When she reveals "Continental Accent" to Naomi, Naomi looks less than thrilled but Jen says it was a gift.
Ryan & Harry
Jen also manages to be a ***** to Ryan about dating other people and what not, though he's clearly fallen for her. Gross, Ryan. Speaking of gross, Principal Harry wants to go out for "frosties" with Ryan. Oh dear. They go to a bar and a cute girl chats up Ryan, telling him if his "friend" leaves he can join her and her girlfriends.
Um, maybe it's just me (and no offense to Eggold) but I'd take Rob Estes over Ryan Eggold every day of the week and twice on Sundays. It goes all the way back to "Silk Stalkings," baby. They get drunk and Harry won't stop blathering on about his family problems, it's hilarious. Then the bartender slips Ryan her number. Who died and made him Brad Pitt? When he gets home all drunk, Harry has trouble making his hangover cure in the kitchen so Debbie helps him and when she hands it to him, he says, "Thank you, Kelly." OOPS.
Navid & Adrianna
Ade breaks up with Navid before the opening credits roll. Ouch. Navid cries (almost literally) to Dixon and Liam when they hang out at the Boys-Only-No-Girls-Allowed Clubhouse and Ade moves right on to making out with Teddy. Of course, Teddy doesn't want a relationship with Ade and she runs off, realizing she made a huge mistake. Of course, Navid has turned to his new BFF Teddy for advice and knows what happened between them and he won't take Ade back.
Dixon & Continued Statutory Rapist Sasha
We see only about 5 seconds of them this weekend, but what we do see is Dixon going over to Sasha's house for a little sumpin-sumpin.

Tonight on "90210," Dixon gets Sasha pregnant and there is an excellent running joke involving Liam's Halloween "costume."

Annie & Jasper
Okay, these two are totally cute together but how EFFED UP is it that she's canoodling with her hit-and-run victim's nephew? Anyway, Jasper asks Annie to be in his movie and she agrees. At home, Dixon says Jasper seems a little sketchy and Annie says Dixon is the one who's sketchy. She knows he's been sneaking out at night.
Jasper takes Annie to the beach club to shoot a movie scene. Annie is supposed to "borrow" a car and take it for a joyride. Annie balks so Jasper totally guilts her into it. They speed off into the night in a white Bentley. Oh wow.
Naomi & Richard
Naomi keeps up her charade of romancing the dean's son, even though she's totally hot for his roommate Jamie. She and Jamie end up bonding and he wants to kiss her, but he won't as long as she's dating his roommate. Well, Jamie just went up several notches in my book.
Naomi ends up seeing Liam flirting with a new girl so she breaks up with Richard and asks Jamie on a date to help her get over Liam.
Ivy, Liam & Sparkage
There's a new girl on the block at West Bev. Her name is Ivy and she meets Liam by slamming into his car in the beach parking lot. It turns out she's the newest Surf Team member. They fight and snark and stuff, she beats him at the big Surf Meet. Then at the Halloween party they get into an impromptu surf-off, which Liam wins but they become friends. I predict they are having sex within two episodes. Of course, Naomi sees them bonding and looks all teary-eyed. Naomi needs to figure it out, ugh. You can't have Richard and his roommate and Liam.
The Wilsons
Harry is acting like his calling Debbie "Kelly" was an honest mistake. As my boyfriend points out, he called her Kelly while she was handing him a beverage, not while he was on top of her. I just hate this whole stupid storyline. It feels ridiculously contrived. I like Harry and I like Kelly and I think Rob Estes and Jennie Garth have good chemistry, but I would've preferred they had him as a single dad being conflicted about feelings for a colleague, rather than introducing some mythical "problems at home" that we've never seen and making up a love triangle.
I thought it couldn't get any worse, until I see Harry's Barack Obama Halloween mask. Oh lord. Kelly asks Harry to lend an ear to her problems and he lies about it to Debbie, saying he's swamped at work and can't meet her for lunch. So she brings him lunch and catches him eating with Kelly. Now, on the one hand... he did lie and lying is bad. On the other hand... you caught him eating lunch, Debbie. Not eating Kelly. Dial it back a little.
At home, Harry tries to explain but Debbie is having none of it She insists that Kelly likes him or she wouldn't be going to her married boss with her problems. Well, that... or Kelly and Harry are friends dating back to their childhood, which was established in season one! OH MY GOD! However, Kelly calls and Harry says that Debbie thinks she has a crush on him and Kelly denies it in a really unbelievable way. Sigh.
The Silvers
Silver is taking care of Jackie and Kelly is still being pretty *****y. Meanwhile, Silver gets paired with Teddy for a school assignment and is none too happy about it. She says she's going to do the project and she'll put Teddy's name on it, but then when she forgets to do it Teddy takes the heat even though he is penalized a whole letter grade. Silver looks dismayed.
Her friends are concerned that she's taken on too much responsibility and she won't listen. Ade and Naomi feel bad for possibly overstepping their bounds. Teddy overhears them and is shocked to find out Silver's mom has cancer. He shows up at school to help Silver on the project (after being a Dracula-Cha-Cha-from-Grease for the surf-off between Liam and Ivy) and offers to let her talk about things because his mom died three years ago and he knows what she's going through.
Turns out he went back east to help take care of his mom and he sympathizes with her how she feels like she has to help. She's also totally overwhelmed and says sometimes she just wants to scream. So Teddy shows her how he used to blow off team and they go hit tennis balls against a wall really hard. These two could be cute together, especially if all he wanted from Ade was a fling but he falls for Silver. Oooh, drama.
Dixon & Thrice Statutory Rapist Sasha
They have to stay in because Sasha doesn't want to get in "real trouble." Perhaps you should've thought of that before you slept with a junior in HIGH SCHOOL, SASHA. Dixon keeps being late to Surf Team practice because of hanging out with Sasha and almost gets kicked off.
When she asks him to come over in lieu of going to a "high school Halloween party," I want to smack her. He has friends, lady. His whole world does not revolve around your va-jay-jay. Dixon realizes just that and breaks up with her. She's totally self-righteous about it, acting like DIxon is some charlatan who sucked her in with his slick words and is now changing his tune. OR he just wants a girl he can be in public with and you're acting like he's your private sex slave. PLUS you're a felon, SASHA. UGH.
Sasha shows up at the Halloween party to drop a bomb on Dixon: she's pregnant. OH SNAP! Didn't see that one coming 'til the final frame. Awesome.
