Smallville season 9 recaps
From Zap2it By Brandon Millman
"Smallville" kicks off season nine with Clark's new style, Chloe's search for the truth, our introduction to John Corben, Lois's three-week vacation and Oliver's transformation into Tyler Durden... but first, we must KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!
It's been three weeks since the ugliness that was the eighth season finale, and Chloe is a woman possessed to find Clark... except he doesn't want to be found. Lucky for her, Dr. Hamilton has stepped up to the plate to be her new sugar daddy, going as far as to upgrading the Watchtower. To me, it resembles a major market television news set, sans desk and Ron Burgundy. She's clearly on edge, because when she does eventually sidle up next to Clark, she can only bite her tongue for so long. I'm glad she's made her peace that their relationship as we know it will lessen over the rest of the series, but that doesn't stop her from making quite the incredulous request to him: go back in time and save Jimmy (now that she has the Legion ring.) Clark can't possibly fulfill this request, as Smallville plays by Back to the Future rules. She hisses that any humanity left in him is gone, but major props to Clark for not giving in to peer pressure.
Lois beams in from nowhere onto a train that quickly careens out of control once a mysterious assassin beams in right after her. While the girl scuffle ensues, the train plummets off the tall bridge, only to be saved at the last second by Mr. Kent (who has decided to ditch his signature look for something a bit more... dark.) He's also taken it upon himself to leave his mark burned into whatever he can find. She can't calm down (even at the hospital) and forgets the Legion ring behind for Chloe to find. The next day, she investigates the wrecked train car when, of all people, Brian Austin Green shows up ready to play 20 Questions. It's clear they have vastly different views on the good and usefulness of the Blur, but once he reveals himself to be John Corben, new Daily Planet field reporter... all bets are off.
Meanwhile, Lois finally tracks down Oliver (who's still in the opening credits), fighting his way up Metropolis' version of Fight Club. While he's shirtless the entire time he's on-screen, he finds looks aren't everything as Lois has all but given up on him being a hero... and instead calling him an "obnoxious" individual.
Tess is back (sigh), but she's been beaten the hell up by some young thugs who answer only to one person... you may call him Zod. Major Zod. That doesn't mean all is well with this season's primary antagonist, as he seems to be lacking the answers his associates are looking for. As per her usual method, she proposes an alliance which only mildly interests the Major. It takes a near mutiny before Zod rises to the occasion. While he admits they're on Earth likely because their home world has been destroyed, he stirringly rallies the troops by declaring they will be victorious... or he will die trying!
And yes, they all absolutely kneel before him... even the cute assassin that came back with Lois.
As for Clark, he most certainly hasn't been slacking in the three weeks since the ugliness. In fact, it seems on the surface those events gave him a focus and drive he'd been lacking. Of course, Jor-El is quite the coach, telling Clark that he's good to go physically but mentally is another story. Someone or something is holding him back, and until he shakes the proverbial monkey off his back, he can never become what he's destined for. Thank you faceless Terence Stamp (General Zod) for stating the obvious. Chloe understands where Clark is coming from when it comes to their relationship, but can't believe he still pines for Lois.
More than that, the mystery assassin checks in with our hero. She claims to be a fellow Kryptonian, intent on "helping" him from himself. Sporting Jor-El's watch (set one year in the future), she even throws down Blue Kryptonite to show how serious she is in accomplishing her goal. The two have quite the rumble in the Kent Barn, but Clark emerges victorious when she dies thanks to a knife in the chest... except she's later revealed as one of Zod's kneelers!
Our Moment of Zen comes with Lois falling asleep with a content look on her face. Once in dreamland, though, we see flashes of sex, fire & rock and roll. Foreshadowing?

Ep. 3
It's the end of the world as we know it, and aside from a needle bruise, Clark feels fine. Everyone else... not so much. You see, one of Zod's loyal subjects took it upon himself to spread quite the nasty zombie virus. First up in the Metropolis Metropolitan Area rampage is Tess, who can't be saved despite the worst bodyguards this side of the Mississippi AND a turn as Beatrix Kiddo.
Lois and Clark, for the lack of anything better to do, decide to visit Tess in the hospital. It's here that it becomes painfully obvious she has something a bit more severe than the swine flu. After getting tossed across the room, Lois decides there's an actual story here and saunters off to the Daily Planet. Clark swipes a blood sample and delivers it to Chloe and Dr. Hamilton at Watchtower. Even this advanced technology takes a while to determine an active enzyme in the zombie blood can be linked back to none other than Davis Bloome. The good doctor determines he can kick out an antidote in no time... if only there was someone else in the world with Davis' blood type. Hmmm...
Speaking of Clark, he arrives at the Planet just in time to help Lois kick some zombie tail. Bodies fly all around, but Lois and Clark emerge victorious in the Battle for Newspaper superiority. The win comes at a cost as Lois is found to be bleeding from the arm. Analysis from Dr. Hamilton reveals she'll be fine, so long as she stays awake. Obviously, Clark needs to save the world, so he leaves his lady love in the hands of the quite capable Oliver Queen... except no, not so much. More on the continuing self-destruction of the Green Arrow in a moment.
Lois has transformed into the beast Clark feared, and boy do they have it out in the Daily Planet newsroom, even spilling out into the streets. Before it gets too ugly, Chloe and Dr. Hamilton literally fly in to save the day. Using Clark's blood (drawn from a liquid kryptonite needle, no less), they seed the rain clouds covering Metropolis with the antidote, saving the city from certain doom. Good thing too, because Clark was really growing tired of Lois' mean left hook.
As for Oliver... well we see him descend further into a pitiful shell of his former self. He initiates a police pursuit out of apparent sheer boredom, still pissed that Clark didn't off Davis Bloome when he had the chance. He's such a mess that when he beds the arresting officer, she doesn't believe him when she spots a hidden camera in his belt buckle. If only he knew Chloe was spying on him, hoping he would get the League back together to save himself AND the world. Of course, that's pretty hard to do when you're drunk and burning your superhero costume in an alley.
We do eventually get to see Zod, as the flunky who spread the virus did so without the Major's knowledge. This foot soldier is about to meet a swift death, until he reveals the grand plan; apparently he knew the antidote would come from a fellow Kryptonian's blood-inspired rain shower... so now they've been able to confirm the presence of the son of Jor-El. Good for Zod, not so good for the kneeling underling as the Major kills him anyway. He seems inspired by an old-school king, I think.
My note, this wasn't the best recap and Mr. Millman missed some things such as Lois' cut being on her leg not her arm. I may look for someone who posts a real recap for the next episode

Re: Smallville season 9 recaps
from Zap2it By Brandon Millman
Jor-El continues the training of young Kal-El by granting him the power of reading what people are thinking. It's because of this that he's able to ascertain the opening hostage scenario and rescue all the victims AND shield as much of the bomb blast as possible. Lois is certainly upset she missed all the action, but if she only knew that Clark was picking up on her non-verbal cues. Initially, Clark only uses the power for good by becoming an even better interviewer/reporter than Lois by piecing together what really went down in the factory. Miss Lane mentally admits the new and improved Clark is not only becoming quite the assertive man, he's also easy on the eyes. Knowing she won't ask it outright, Clark nudges Lois into setting up a night of Monster Trucks and Daisy Dukes... so as long as there's no drama in the end.
Meanwhile in a Havana bar, Oliver Queen stumbles in to find two hotties immediately swarming him. Problem is, these two belong to some local thugs who would like nothing more than to beat Oliver to within an inch of his life. In the nick of time, Tess clears the room and calls Oliver (and his pity party) out. Seems Queen Industries is teetering on the brink, and Oliver desperately needs to rally the troops. He broods a little more, but ultimately resigns himself to the fact he has to put back on his big boy pants.
All along, Chloe once again finds herself in the middle of a situation I think she'd rather view from the sidelines. She watches Lois put on her sexy Monster Truck-inspired date outfit, then seeks out Clark to threaten the son of Jor-El not to hurt Lois. Of course, the new and improved "reporter' Clark senses Oliver's imminent return and whooshes over to the red carpet. Not one to miss a black-tie gala OR a big story, Lois arrives via a muddy Monster Truck in her stunning dress. She's almost as quickly gone when Clark asserts himself, wanting to get the story all by himself.
Of course, the Toyman's plan to lure Oliver back to Metropolis works to perfection. Once Oliver begins to address the shareholders, he's forced to put in an earpiece wired directly to none other than Winslow Schott. Read the script on the TelePrompTer, or everybody gets blown to bits. Move off the pressure sensor... the same. Basically the speech is a laundry list of all of Oliver's misdeeds and shortcomings. Clark tries to read the thoughts, but the power is suddenly gone. He gets on the horn to Chloe, who remotely activates an alarm, allowing for the evacuation of the innocents. Naturally, Winslow is on scene to witness his handiwork, but Clark is clearly tired of his shenanigans. When it becomes clear that this Toyman is nothing more than a FatBot, Clark uses the heat eyes to melt it... just as Oliver steps off the platform. Because the Toyman demands total control over the outcome, the bomb was actually set to explode from a timer.
However, it's become apparent Oliver is tired of life... a life he says isn't really his. Even Clark is tired of his whining, and tells him to man up. Once alone, Oliver is haunted by a reflection of Lex (I know, creepy!) and proceeds to throw his drink at him/it. Speaking of creepy, the real Toyman is captured and later visited by Tess, who proceeds to shoot him in the leg. She promises to take care of him, so long as he cooperates in identifying and exploring a certain meteor rock.
As for our inevitable lovers, the initial tension probably would break a Ginsu knife. Clark admits that going solo on such a big story wasn't the best move (along with the standing up of the "date" as well.) He did write the article, but missed the deadline. Lois plays English teacher and red pens the hell out of his article, but all seems forgiven once they lock eyes. Second date? Count on it... just on a slower news day!

Re: Smallville season 9 recaps
From Zap2it by By Brandon Millman
It's clear the funk Oliver's been in has adversely affected those around him who would rather see him return to his old style, but when you're blowing off birthday beer pong with Lois Lane, you know you've hit the lowest of lows. Enter Roulette, an Asian with a game changer in the form of a red pill that clearly should not be taken. Sensing he has nothing to lose, Oliver takes the Morpheus offer and swallows, only to find himself passing out in the street and ultimately ending up in a coffin.
Off to a fantastic start, Oliver escapes and tries to rescue what sounds like Lex trapped in an adjoining box. Of course he's not in there, because this is all a game Oliver is playing against his will. In short order, it turns into The Running Man, except rabid dogs and industrial trucks are chasing him around the abandoned work site. Waking up in a puddle the next day, he tries to call Chloe and fails. Once he finds the Roulette tattoo on his arm, his next move is to return to the original scene where the trouble began. Problem is, says Roulette, that if the bad guys see him there, she will die. Right on cue, the punches begin to fly, yet somehow they manage to escape. She tries to answer questions on the run, (real name Victoria), but in the process of helping him help herself manages to get shot and killed herself. Again on cue, the police arrive and Taser® him, bro.
On the other side of town, Clark returns to the farm and finds Lois prepping for a Jaws movie night by doing laundry in the interim. They try to enjoy the movie together, except Clark's incessant need to save the world by converting the living room into a concession stand as a cover story finally wears Lois down. Yeah, she's bummed that Oliver bailed on beer pong, so she and Clark set out to find our confused billionaire... except all she finds in his office is footage from last week's party. Not only does it show Oliver and his death wish, it reveals Clark knew about it all along and didn't tell her. Oy.
Oliver gets the standard bad cop/good cop treatment from the locals and the FBI, until the fed's computer morphs into one giant phishing scam, draining Oliver's bank account. The interrogation room fills with gas, but Clark saves the day while revealing the room was nothing more than a television set staged in an abandoned warehouse. They run to Watchtower and Oliver begs for Chloe's help, but when she refuses, he returns to the gambling hall a third time, only to find Lois tied up. See, she continued to search for Oliver solo, only to get her ass kicked by Roulette... who is now holding her hostage. Seems all she's interested in is gunfire and regular fire, which the action sequence provides plenty of. The Moment of Truth comes when Roulette cries out for help and Oliver tries to save her anyway, only to realize the exercise was a fool's errand all along.
Back to that security footage for a moment: Chloe and Clark notice a familiar tattoo on one of the party guests from last week. Yep, that would be Alia making a cameo at the party. Chloe runs the tattoo through the database with chilling results: that mark has been found in hundreds of locations around he world. When they say that soon the world will need all the help it can get, boy they weren't kidding!
