Heroes season 4 recaps

From Zap2it By Andrea Reiher

Tonight on "Heroes," we've got some creepy carnies looking for a Magic Compass. No word on if they smell like cabbage.

When we last left our intrepid Heroes, Sylar's "body" was burned and only Angela, Matt and Noah knew that Nathan was dead and Sylar is now Nathan. They thought Matt could control him but we saw a flash at the end of the season that made us (and Mama Petrelli) think Sylar might not be quiiiiite under control. Hiro and Ando headed home to Japan and Tracy came back (because no big name on this show EVER dies, except Elle, who was a favorite of mine.)

Let's take this one character-by-character, shall we? Because they are very disjointed in these episodes and hardly interact with one another.

Claire Bennett
Claire Bear is headed to college and ends up with a driven, competitive roommate named Annie. I was betting that she was a demon like Buffy's roommate Kathy, but instead it turns out she's just suicidal and throws herself out a window (under highly suspicious circumstances).

Claire makes a new friend, Gretchen, who recognizes Claire's name from the Odessa Homecoming Massacre (coming to theatres 2010!) and is obsessed with proving that Annie was murdered. Gretchen's a little... macabre. When Claire conducts her own "Jump, Push or Fall" test by throwing herself out the dorm window to see if she hits Annie's chalk outline, Gretchen sees Claire sit up and crack her bones back into place. Raise your hand if you like Gretchen for Annie's murder? Me too.

Peter Petrelli
Peter has gone all Weird Loner on us. He's a paramedic again, using his powers to save people and basically balance the cosmic ledger. He barely takes time off and at home he saves every single newspaper article about his heroics and constantly listens to the police scanner. I predict eventually he'll develop an obsession with Jodie Foster and try to kill the president.

"Nathan" Petrelli
The Nathan Facade is cracking, as glimpses of Sylar are coming out. Nathan reaches out to Peter for help because he doesn't know what's happening, but Peter won't return his calls because of the Lone Wolf thing he's got going. Angela can see the Sylar coming out and asks Matt Parkman for help in "updating" whatever it is he did, but Matt wants no part of it.

Matt Parkman
Matt is back with his family but is having some serious Sylar hallucinations. He isn't using his mind-reading powers anymore, which makes both Janice and me wonder if that's healthy. He finally snaps, at Sylar's egging on, and uses his powers to (of all htings) convince the hunky water delivery boy to get a new route because he doesn't like Roy sniffing around his kibble, ifyaknowwhatimsayin. Oh, and Matt is going to a police force recovery group and talks about his powers like an addiction. Hello, Willow. I didn't know you'd joined "Heroes."

Noah Bennett & Tracy Strauss
Tracy reformed from the melted ice chips with one thing on her mind: MURDER. She goes for Bennett but he says he can help her and gets Danko off her back. Unfortunately, she sees Danko sliced 'n diced by a new super-speedy samurai hero and calls Bennett. They find a key in Danko's stomach, it opens a safety deposit box and inside is a MAGIC COMPASS that either only works when Peter holds it or only works when a person with an ability holds it (it's not clear). Unfortunately, samurai comes back and slices up Bennett for the compass. In the hospital, Bennett calls Tracy because he's lonely (also, his wife has moved on). Do I smell a romance brewing? Who 'ships Tracy and Noah? I'm not sure if I do yet.

Ando & Hiro
Our favorite bumbling BFFs have started a company in Japan called "Heroes for Hire." We see them save a cat named "Muffin Man." Awesome. In more important news, there is now a ret-conned carnival where 13 year-old Hiro saw a fortune teller and wished he was big and ended up sleeping with Elizabeth Perkins. No wait. The fortune teller told him he would be a hero and that's when he devoted his life to doing just that.

Which now is killing him, since Hiro is dying. Presumably from powers, but the details are fuzzy. He tells Ando he saw a doctor. Was it Dr. Suresh? If it was, why wouldn't he just say it was? Was it a normal doctor? A normal doctor would've found a normal cause, not a time-traveling cause, so does Hiro have a normal disease, like cancer or lupus? Was it exacerbated by his time-traveling and time-freezing? It's very unclear and annoying.

Anyway, Hiro accidentally travels back to the Carnival and instead of keeping himself from getting the fortune, a weird carnie named Samuel inserts Hiro into the incident where Ando spilled slushee on Kimiko (Hiro's sister) and she hated him forever. INstead, Samuel pushes Hiro so that he intercepts the slushee. Back in the present, Kimiko and Ando are together now, ever since they shared their first kiss on the Ferris Wheel at the carnival 14 years ago. Maybe later Hiro will play "Johnny B. Goode" for them at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.

Hiro then decides his new mission is to go back in time, leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home. Or something like that. Oh boy.

Carnivale
Finally we come to... the Big Bad for season 5. Joseph, an unseen carnie, dies and Samuel takes over as Lead Carnie. He has a Magic Compass, a tattoo of said Magic Compass and also a magic ink pen. Rounding out his band of carnies are super-speedy samurai Edgar, Lydia the Tattooed Lady and an old man who sends Samuel back in time to Hiro's carnival. Samuel puts Hiro on his path of redemption and now wants to collect Sylar, Claire and Peter. For what purpose? We don't know. But I bet the Magic Compass is involved.

ep. 3
From Zap2it By Andrea Reiher

This episode was so great that I hardly know where to start. I like to put the segments in order of least to most interesting, top to bottom, but tonight they were all interesting. Let's get to it, shall we?

Claire & Gretchen
After witnessing Claire hurl herself out a window and put herself back together without even needing all the King's horse and all the King's men, Gretchen wants to be on the inside. She gets herself invited to lunch with Claire and Noah and drops not-so-subtle hints that she's onto Claire. Eventually Claire just decides to tell her, after Gretchen reveals that her classmates used to call her Wretchin' Gretchen due to her bulimia. The girls bond and Claire invites Gretchen to be her roommate. I would love to see Claire get an actual gal pal, so I'm bummed for what I think are the inevitable "Gretchen is evil" and/or "college lesbianism" plot devices looming on the horizon.

Peter & Samuel & Emma
Samuel sets off from the Carnival to revisit where he and Joseph (the dead brother) grew up. While there, he manages to manipulate a bus crash roster and a newspaper clipping to make it appear as though he was in the crash and Peter dislocated his shoulder by pulling him out of the wreckage so quickly. He uses the threat of a lawsuit to get close to Peter, whom he wants to "collect," essentially, though we don't yet know exactly how or why. He does get Peter to shake his hand, though, and puts a Magic Compass tattoo on Peter's arm.

We are also introduced to a new character tonight: Emma, a deaf woman who starts to see sounds as colors, which is awesome. She's understandably freaked but does do a little impromptu cello playing in the park and the music and lights and colors are gorgeous, it's a great scene. Peter spies her and she runs off like a cello-playing Cinderella. They also had a brief encounter at the hospital because she works there. I smell love interest, which is good because maybe he can stop all the HoYay with Adrian Pasdar and accidental chemistry with his on-screen niece.

Matt & Sylar
LOVED THIS WEEK. Sylar is in Matt's head but it's not just hallucinations on Matt's part. Sylar's essence appears to be camping out since his body is inhabited by Nathan Petrelli. So Sylar decides to have a little "fun" with Matt, making him think that a captured drug dealer is also a kidnapper/murderer. It makes Matt look so crazypants in front of Captain Lubbock that Matt just eshews "sobriety" altogether and makes his captain think nothing happened.

It doesn't sound very interesting here, but watching it play out was awesome. Sylar totally had me. I thought he was helping Matt bring a child molester/murderer to justice, which despite Sylar's psychoses seems like something he would do, and as it slowly dawned on me that Sylar was just manipulating Matt, I was like, "Bravo, Zachary Quinto." Seriously, why does Sylar never get killed off on this show? Because Zach Quinto makes him FAR too interesting and compelling.

Karn Evil 9
When he tries to visit his childhood home, the rich woman who lives there won't let Samuel in. So he levels the place with the dinner party inside. Back at the Karn Evil, we find out via a Sprint commercial that Lydia the Tattooed Lady has a daughter. Is anyone following this little bit of product placement/side story? I'd love to hear about it, drop me an email.

Re: Heroes season 4 recaps

From zap2it By Andrea Reiher

Tonight on "Heroes," Nathan is punished for a death his mom covered up, Sylar reemerges and Lydia the Tattooed Lady says Noah might be interested in their carnival.

Hiro & Ando
Ando and Kimika are getting married and Kimiko wants Hiro to give her away. Ando is dismayed when Hiro agrees because the wedding is a year away and Hiro might be dead by then. Hiro is still obsessed with Quantum Leaping around and putting right what once went wrong. What this means is Hiro spends the entire episode looping around between a roof-jumper who got fired for photocopying his butt. It makes Hiro realize that he can't change the past necessarily but can change the present so he comes clean with Kimiko about his illness. And then vanishes.

Peter, Nathan & Angela
At the hospital, Nathan comes to talk to Peter about what's been happening to him. He's experiencing psychometrics, picking up an object and seeing the history of it. Nathan touched his old baseball cap and got the images of a girl named Kelly dying in a pool instead of running away like they always thought she did. Peter tells him to go talk to Kelly's mom about what happened.

Peter goes to Kelly's house and her mom is played by Swoozie Kurtz. Loved her since "Sisters." Turns out Kelly's mom Millie hasn't heard from Kelly since she ran off. Nathan wanders over to the pool and grasps a statue, which shows him drinking with Kelly by the pool. He then touches the diving board and sees her slip and crack her head on the side of the pool, bleeding into the water.

He goes to Angela about it and she says she "took care of it" and erased his memory via the Haitian. Nice. Nathan goes back to Millie and tells her what really happened. He also calls the police but chickens out on telling them what happened only to be stabbed in the neck, shot three times and dumped in a shallow grave.

Millie meets with Angela to find out the real story. The entire conversation is juxtaposed over Nathan's attacker dumping Nathan's body in the woods. The attacker then calls Millie to confirm that the "package is delivered." When Nathan's hand bursts out of the ground all Buffy Summers, he has morphed back into Sylar.

Tracy
Tracy approaches the New York governor about rejoining politics. She asks for a bigger role in his administration and all he does is put her in the "pretty girl" box and proposition her for sex. She goes to the restroom and starts breaking down into water because she's upset but manages to pull herself together and walks out on the Governor.

Noah & Claire
Claire is worried about her dad because the Company's gone and now he's all divorced and sad and living off take-out and Ramen noodles. Claire is totally cute trying to find her father a job out of the newspaper classifieds and coaching him through interview questions. He's pretty down on himself.

Later, Tracy comes to see him about how something is missing from her life. He says she has to figure out who she wants to be blahblahblah romancecakes. Back at home, Noah pins up pictures on the wall of the magic compass and Edgar the Knife Carnie.

Karn Evil
Lydia shows Noah Bennett to Samuel on her tattooed back, saying that Noah may have changed his mind about being retired and/or interested in the Carnies. Nice tease.

From Zap2it By Andrea Reiher

Claire
Claire is faced with a choice this episode: lesbian or sorority girl. Just do what a lot of college girls did, Claire. Use one to be the other. [hands smacking] Problem solved.

No seriously, Claire is approached by her mom's sorority in the form of Jackie Cook from "Veronica Mars." Gretchen doesn't like it one bit and her obsession with Claire starts to show, complete with many, many websites on her computer about Claire and a possible attempted murder of Claire's new friend at a sorority mixer.

So what does Gretchen do to make it better? Lays a big smooch on Claire. As one does. Just then the sorority girls show up and offer them both bids. I would call BS on Gretchen getting a bid but we had several girls like her in my sorority and I applaud the show not stereotyping the sorority.

Peter & Emma
Peter saves Emma from an on-coming bus and in doing so absorbs her power. So he can see sounds as colors, which I agree with our commenters: what kind of "power" is that? Big whoop.

At the hospital, Peter discovers that he got the power from Emma and that she's deaf during a children's choir performance of the theme from "Greatest American Hero." Snerk. Peter explains to her about the different abilities and she is naturally skeptical but he asks her if it's really any crazier than seeing sounds as colors and they sit down at a piano and play and watch the colors. It's nice. But he manages to insult her by asking her to have lunch, get her out of the file room, which coincidentally her mother (Nurse Ratched!) was bugging her about earlier.

After running from Peter, Emma goes home and plays her cello angrily enough to make the building shake and her wall break. Meanwhile, Hiro teleports into Peter's apartment and promptly faints.

Nathan/Sylar
Sylar crawls out of his grave and finds this fight just doesn't mean a thing, he ain't got that swing. No, just kidding. He crawls out and can't remember who he is, so who's he gonna call? Ghostbusters. Sylar seems to have completely forgotten his past life and is almost experiencing all sensations for the first time.

The cop and a doctor work with his dissociative amnesia to try to bring back his former self but all he can focus on is the ticking of the wall clock and the doctor's watch. When his prints come back as having killed his mother, Sylar is horrified and can't remember a thing.. When Winston the cop gets physical with him, Sylar accidentally sends him crashing through the one-way mirror and escapes.

He tracks down the doctor in the parking lot and asks for her help. He then basically forces her to drive him away but she insists he turn himself in, which he does but the police pump him full of lead anyway. He and the doctor tumble down a hill, the doctor sees him heal and tells him to run for it. Where does he run? TO THE KARN EVIL!

Karn Evil
Samuel vows to "complete their circle" and says he has planted many seeds but they have to wait and see who shows up. So who shows up? Rebecca, the rush chair of Claire's new sorority. Turns out she can become invisible and that's what made all the objects fly around... including ANNIE out the window. Nice, show. Who else shows up? Sylar. Exxxxxcellent.

Re: Heroes season 4 recaps

From Zap2it By Andrea Reiher

Tonight on "Heroes," the Karn Evil karnies bring old Sylar back, Peter gets healing powers and Hiro goes back to save Charlie. It unfortunately does not involve a plot where Giles and Anya think they are engaged.

Hiro & Emma
Hiro is in the hospital, dying from a brain tumor. Hiro thinks destiny sent him to Peter for a reason. Emma is upset by the cello in her apartment, thinking Peter sent it. He can't talk to her because he has borrowed Hiro's ability to travel through time and wants to find Hiro a cure. Emma settles down with Hiro to find out about having abilities.

She wants to make it stop but Hiro says she has to answer the call. To convince her, he signs up for the hospital talent show and drags her into it, making her "disappear" (freezing time so she can leave and all the kids think she has disappeared). While time is stopped, Emma touches the color lights from the children's applause. Hiro tells her she needs to learn how to use her powers to do good things in the world.

Hiro is telling Emma about righting wrongs and he suddenly remembers Charlie. It'd be nice to save Charlie, but she's too busy with "Glee." Meanwhile, Emma sits down at the hospital piano to play a little ditty. The colors dance around her and Hiro listens from his room. He comes out to watch her play and she sees a crowd has gathered. She's like a little pied piper. She tells Hiro to go back to bed and he blinks out of her time/space.

Peter & Noah
Peter shows up at Noah's apartment, asking him to find a Healer to cure Hiro. Noah says there is one named Jeremy Greer. He can't bring you back from the dead but he can save anyone who is still alive. Peter and Noah head out to find Jeremy.

When they get to his house, everything is dead. Plants, animals, even the air smells like death. They find his parents dead in their easy chairs, like the life was simply sucked out of them. Jeremy fires on them from upstairs. As Noah talks to him, Jeremy screams at him to stay away. Jeremy says everything he touches ends up dead. He got mad at his parents, he touched them and they died.

Jeremy goes to fire at Noah, just as Peter jumps into their time/space and intercepts the shot. He crumples to the ground bleeding from a massive chest wound and Noah yells at Jeremy to heal Peter, tells him to focus. Jeremy heals him, so I guess it isn't Peter who is kicking the bucket.

Peter steals Jeremy's ability and leaves to heal Hiro, while Noah stays to help Jeremy.

Karn Evil
Lydia says there are two sides to Sylar and they are at war within him. I hope she means two sides to actual Sylar and not Sylar vs Nathan because Sylar is much more interesting if he's conflicted rather than just juggling Nathan's guilt.

Anyway, Sylar doesn't remember that he's Sylar. He tells Samuel that the police told him his name was Gabriel, but the first name that pops into his head is Nathan. Sigh. The memories that come back to Sylar are Nathan's.

Samuel sends Sylar off with Lydia to get to know the place and she flirts with him. Edgar the Knife Guy is totally jealous and pees all over Lydia (and by pees, I mean he throws a knife at Sylar). They get into a skirmish and Sylar sends Edgar flying into a wheelbarrow of cement. Samuel gives Sylar over to Damien, who can restore Sylar's memories. In the House of Mirrors, no less. Creepy.

In the House of Mirros, Damien's eyes roll over white as he puts his thumbs on Sylar's forehead. Sylar then sees his mom in the mirrors. He sees himself stabbing her. He sees visions of all his murders and starts freaking the eff out. Samuel says he should embrace the carnival community, who loves him, and use his gifts to protect their "family." Meanwhile, Samuel has invited Captain Sullivan (Ghostbuster Winston Cop) to come to the carnival and tells Sylar "something has to be done" about him. Is that what "family" does, Samuel?

Sylar follows Sullivan into the House of Mirrors. Sullivan draws a gun but Sylar tries to warn him that he needs to leave. He then accidentally fries Sullivan with Elle's power, which seems to bring back the real Sylar for a second. But he stops himself before he hurts Sullivan for real and in that moment, Edgar jumps in and slices Sullivan up.

Apparently this brings back the old Sylar? I'm not sure how we went from Sylar hesitating and Edgar being evil to Sylar getting baptized by Samuel. It's no Stephen Baldwin baptizing Spencer Pratt, but here we are. Edgar and Samuel congratulate themselves on bringing back Sylar, but Edgar is pissed to see Lydia taking Sylar back to her trailer. Do you suppose her mood music is side two of The Rolling Stones' Tattoo You?

Charlie
Right at the end, Hiro is back in Texas at Charlie's diner. Of course, we only see her red hair from the back. Is Jayme Mays going to guest-star? I haven't heard anything about it.

Strange Attractors from Heroes Wiki

In Los Angeles, Matt has a nightmare that he and Janice are in the living room making love when Matt transforms into Sylar. However, when he wakes up, he realizes it isn't a dream. The image of Sylar is there and comments about how he likes forbidden fruit.

In Cainan, GA, Jeremy is taken into custody. Jeremy glares at Noah, who is watching from outside the room. Noah talks to the sheriff and says it isn't right. The sheriff doesn't believe that Jeremy's parents died because of carbon monoxide poison, and he has a reputation for trouble. Jeremy isn't going anywhere until the sheriff fully investigates the matter, and he won't release Jeremy to Noah in any case. Noah calls someone and says he needs their help.

Tracy arrives in Cainan and meets Noah. She notes that she thought he was done with bag and tag missions, but Noah explains he's conducting a rescue and explains how Jeremy's power works. He also tells her that he's set it up so that it appears that Tracy is his aunt so she can sign him out. Tracy reluctantly agrees and she goes inside while the police offices watch the exchange suspiciously.

At Arlington University, it's the middle of the night and Claire asks if Gretchen is awake. Gretchen wonders if she's worried that she's going to kiss-attack her in her sleep. Claire wants to talk about it and Gretchen apologizes. Claire says it wasn't so bad and explains she doesn't want to mess up her normal life, and doesn't want to put their friendship at risk. Three black-clad figures burst in and Claire briefly fights back until Rebecca announces who they are and says that they're to kidnap them for their initiation.

The sorority sisters dump them the two girls in a trunk. Gretchen is happy to be tied in up in close proximity with Claire. They discuss their relationship and Claire admits that she doesn't know what her feelings are. Rebecca gets them out and takes them into an old slaughterhouse with two other applicants. She explains that they're on a scavenger hunt and the winners get to sit out Hell Week.

Tracy goes in to talk to Jeremy and explains what's happening. He notes that Noah said he'd be free, but says that they're not like others.

Sylar continues to taunt Matt, saying that he can give Janice what Matt can't. When Matt throws himself at his tormentor, he slams into a wall, unable to touch the mental projection.

As they explore, Gretchen finds a puzzle referring to "when we were found." One of the girls opens a locker and is sprayed with blood. Claire looks at them and then says to open the one marked 24, for the year the sorority was founded. Inside are two battles of water.

Tracy tells Jeremy of how she killed someone when her power first manifested. As she explains, she demonstrates her power, and says that she gave in to her emotions just like he did. As he bursts into tears, she says they're not like others. Meanwhile, Noah talks to the sheriff, who refuses to let Jeremy go. The sheriff shows him Jeremy's diary, which talks about death, and relates the rumors that Jeremy kills animals. He tells Noah that Jeremy isn't going anywhere.

Afterward, Tracy calls her friend Dennis to ask for a favor and get Jeremy released. Once she finishes the call, she discovers Samuel standing on the street corner. He introduces himself and asks one question: if she's there to save Jeremy's life, then what's next? Samuel asks if she'll take him to somewhere to live. He gestures and the carnival appears around them, and Samuel says it's a place where Jeremy belongs. He assures Tracy she's safe there.

Claire and the others get to the main floor of the slaughterhouse and the other team goes off on their own. Gretchen and Claire go down a flight of stairs, unaware that the invisible Rebecca is following them. As they explore, Claire asks how long Gretchen has known that she likes girls, and admits that she's jealous her friend has figured her out. Gretchen says she's had more boyfriends than girlfriends, and wonders if Claire is a virgin. She realizes that Claire is and comments that they're strange attractors: particles that end up together even though they don't belong together, but are superpowerful when they meet. Claire notices a shadow and tells Gretchen to slow down. Someone throws a heavy chain and hook at them and Claire shoves Gretchen out of the way, and warns that it may not be a game.

Re: Heroes season 4 recaps

Part 2:

Samuel shows Tracy around the carnival and describes how it feels to tap into something greater than one's self. He talks about how they're all connected and the energy binding them gets stronger, and Jeremy should be there. When Tracy objects, Samuel says that Jeremy can work miracles and shouldn't be invisible. He invites her to join them as well and she tells him that it's enough. He gives her a compass to find her way back if she wants and calls Lydia over to take Tracy home. As she goes, Sylar sees her and says that he recognizes her. Samuel tells him that those are someone else's memories, but Sylar wants to know where his real self is.

Matt is packing to go when Janice comes in and asks what he's doing. He explains that it's not safe for her and Matt Jr. because someone can control him. Matt tells her did something wrong and pushed one person's memories into another man. Sylar objects and Matt snaps at him, and then asks Janice to trust him. He insists he needs to go and find some way to resolve the issue, and Janice offers to let Matt stay while she takes Matt Jr. somewhere. He tells her to avoid telling him where she's going so Sylar won't gain the information. Once she's gone, Sylar admits that Matt is smart, but he still doesn't have a way to get rid of Sylar. Matt tries to call Mohinder but doesn't get an answer. As Matt drinks a beer, Sylar advises him to just accept the situation and get his body back. As he talks, Sylar starts to wince in pain and Matt thinks it's connected to his drinking. He dares Sylar to control him and stop him from drinking the beer. Believing he's found a weapon, Matt starts drinking heavily as Sylar groans in pain.

Tracy returns to the sheriff's office where Noah tells her that her man made all the arrangements and they're releasing Jeremy. They go in and Jeremy wonders who he's going to live in, and Noah explains that he'll live near him in DC under a new identity. He promises Jeremy that Tracy will help him master his ability, but Jeremy wonders what happens if something goes wrong. Tracy tells him that he'll be safe... and invisible.

Gretchen wonders if Claire thinks the sorority is trying to kill them, and observes there was no one there to shove the chain. Claire assures her there are dozens of people with abilities that could have done it, and figures that Gretchen is the target. She reminds Gretchen that Annie was killed and Gretchen reluctantly accepts what she's saying. They hear a metallic rumbling noise and then the other two girls run in. They have a clue but don't want to turn it over, and Claire tells them she doesn't care as long as they get out. The other girls reluctantly agree and lead the way.

Noah and Tracy take Jeremy out through the station. Townspeople are gathered outside to protest Jeremy's relief. One man approaches him and Jeremy touches his chest. The man collapses and Noah begs Jeremy to save him. The sheriff orders Jeremy back inside and he goes, ignoring Noah. Inside, Noah and Tracy try to warn the sheriff he's in over his head, but he refuses to let them talk to Jeremy.

The sheriff's man Gil takes Jeremy out back and chains him to a truck, and prepares to kill him. He dares Jeremy to take his best shot and Jeremy considers touching him, and then drops his hands. Gil tells him he doesn't belong there and orders the men to drag him away.

Matt continues drinking as Sylar weakens. He explains he bought his current bottle with Janice and says that Sylar is just a figment of his imagination. Sylar accuses Janice of hating Matt and how she commented that Matt should be more like Sylar when they were making love. Matt tells him they'll have a beautiful life together once Sylar is gone, and Sylar asks Matt why he can't accept his power. As Sylar passes out and starts to fade away, Matt yells in triumph as Janice comes in with Matt's partner. He tells her he did it and then passes out.

The four girls come to two doors. One says Prep Room and the other says Kill Room. Gretchen and Claire choose the Kill Room door and find a teddy bear prize hanging on a hook. Gretchen tells Claire that she understands now and is willing to give her space. Suddenly a strap wraps around Gretchen's neck. When Gretchen tries to free her, she's shoved away. Claire grabs a pole and breaks the strap, and then looks around. The invisible Rebecca attacks her, shoving her onto a metal spike. Claire grabs a hook and hits her in the shoulder, disrupting her concentration and turning her visible. The other girls arrive and Rebecca runs past them, turning invisible to make her escape. They see Claire impaled and watch in horror as Gretchen pulls her free.

Noah and Tracy are driving through Cainan when they find Jeremy's corpse lying in the street. Noah tries to assure Tracy they couldn't save him but she doesn't believe him. She goes back to her car and Noah apologizes, admitting that he thought he could manage it. Tracy points out that they both let Jeremy down, and wonders if they have to remain invisible while living out in the open. He admits that he doesn't think they can do it after today, and she tells him not to call her again. As Noah walks away, Tracy takes out the compass that Samuel gave her.

Matt recovers consciousness and his partner gives him an AA chip and says he has to start over from the beginning. He thanks both of them and goes to take a shower… but it's Sylar, in Matt's body. He boasts to Matt, now a mental projection, that he's taken control and there's nothing Matt can do to stop him.

Samuel walks down the streets of Cainan to the sheriff's office. He stares down at the blood stain left by Jeremy. He then concentrates and uses his power to bring down the entire building, and then turns and walks away.
