Eyecon Report Part 2

Registration for the convention began at 5:00 PM and I waited in line
until I registered and received my envelope which contained my
Platinum Pass which had the stickers for admittance to the ****tail
party on Friday night and the Banquet Saturday night (each was an
additional cost).

The convention had a "Dealers Room" which is a staple of most cons and
while it was small there were some great items there. Creation (a
company who runs many cons) had a booth there and sold Supernatural
t-shirts, hats, and said they would have photos the next day. I
purchased one of the t-shirts that was from the Chicago Con that
Creation held for Supernatural. It's a great shirt that has Dean,
Sam, YED, and Ellen featured on a green shirt. It was $25 but it was
worth having my first Supernatural t-shirt.

At one of the other dealers I purchased a replica necklace of the one
Dean Winchester wears on the show. We, as of this writing, don't know
the meaning of the necklace but it is really cool.

There were also comic book dealers and even a dealer who sold boot-leg
DVDs. The dealer had some great shows that aren't available on DVD
like Birds of Prey, Droids, and some others but I ultimately decided
not to purchase any although it was tempting. One of the dealers had
some Star Wars items but none I was interested in. There was a dealer
who had holistic items, a mad hat booth, and I got to meet Mysti from
Agent with Style (also a poster at the yahoo group) who sells zines
from several fandoms. At one point during the weekend when I was
talking with her she suggested I write a Supernatural fic that I could
submit to her and if accepted for one of the zines I'd get a free
copy. I told her I'd consider it once I'm done writing my current
Star Wars project (Vero Order).

I then made my way to the "Heroes Ballroom" where most of the events
were to take place. Having a "Platinum Pass" I had an assigned seat
that literally had a sticker with my name on it. All pass holders had
their seat number and badge number on it and the Platinum seats were
ahead of general pass holders but with when I registered I was sitting
in row "G" so I was in the 7th row which was the second to last
platinum row.

The first official event was a "Meet and Greet with the Stars" which
started late (a common theme at this con) but Jim Beaver (Bobby),
Samantha Ferris (Ellen), Chad Linberg (Ash), Gabriel Tigerman (Andy),
and Sandra McCoy (Crossroads Demon) came out and greeted the fans. It
was then that we learned that Tigerman was a "Con Virgin" (aka he has
never been to a con). It was a brief greeting but I did get some nice
photo shots of the group.

After that we had a screening of the movie "Ten Inch Hero" (again this
was an additional cost). This movie is credited as 2006 and was a
great film which has yet to be picked up by a distributor. Its
connection to Supernatural is that one of the stars is Jensen Ackles.
The movies' premise revolved around a sandwich shop that was run by a
former hippie (Trucker) and it starts out with him and two of his
workers interviewing a girl named Piper for a new position. We learn
that Piper moved to California because she became pregnant when she
was 15 and was forced to give the baby up for adoption and now thinks
she has located the child.

We are then introduced to Priestly, the character played by Jensen
Ackles, who is one of the workers in the shop. He has a Mohawk and
multiple facial piercings. Every day the Mohawk is a different color
and different shape and he wears t-shirts with funny sayings. He
even wore a kilt one day. The movie has several plots including one
of the girls who is shy but chats with a guy online who now wants to
meet. She goes to the restaurant where they were to meet (he was to
have a white rose) and when she saw him she freaked and left. It
turns out he was quite handsome and she thought he wouldn't like her
because she was more of a plain type of girl. Priestly intervenes
when he sees the guy trying to IM her after she left the computer on
after leaving for the day. Priestly gets the guy to come to the
sandwich shop dressed up as a homeless man (she always gave the
homeless free sandwiches) and that got him to meet her and of course
they fall in love.

The other girl is a hoe and tricks guys into having sex with her by
telling them she's never had an orgasm so the guys she flirts with
take it as a challenge. Then two guys, Brad and Tad, come in every
day and flirt with her and she becomes Brad's girlfriend. He doesn't
treat her well but they have lots of sex (including a few graphic
scenes with partial nudity—including her bare chested jumping on him).
She gets upset with Brad because he does everything with Tad and even
wants to include Tad on their dates, etc. One night, while they are
having sex, Tad comes in and begins masturbating while watching them.
This disgusts her but Brad says it's ok and says they are going to
have a three-way that he and Tad do that all the time. She gets
disgusted and goes to leave and Brad tries to stop him and in the
process she falls and bumps her head. Later, on another day in the
movie, he goes to get her and she protests so he hits her. Priestly
tries to defend her but Brad hits him and knocks him to the ground.
Trucker then comes out and beats Brad up and tells him to leave her
alone. In the end, Priestly dresses in normal clothing without the
Mohawk or piercings and asks her out and in the end they are shown as
being together.

Piper's story is that she tracks down the girl, Julia, who she
believes to be her daughter and in a way stalks her. She follows
Julia and Noah (Julia's father) to the beach and since Piper is an
artist she draws Julia sitting on the beat (Julia is also an artist).
Noah and Julia introduce themselves to Piper (who gives her name as
Anna) and she gives Noah the picture she drew of Julia. The story
progresses where Julia asks her dad to have "Anna" to be her art
teacher and Piper in the guise of Anna becomes part of their life and
Noah even asks "Anna" out. But Piper learns Julia is Noah's
biological daughter and therefore can't be her daughter. She then
admits the truth to Noah who eventually forgives her and they become a
couple.

The last side story is that Trucker has been pining over a woman who
owns a shop across the street from the sandwich shop but she is an
"earthy type" and sometimes they even think she's a witch because she
seems to be able to know things about people. Eventually Trucker and
she get together and in the end they have a commitment ceremony where
they are both naked on bareback horses.

Overall the movie was good but it had its flaws too. Good storyline
with well well-developed characters. Jensen steals the show in my
opinion. Some things I didn't like is the sex scenes (yes I said that
lol). They just weren't needed in a movie like this and in my opinion
weren't needed. In the Q&A session the director and producer said
they felt it advanced the story—I disagree. Also they stories with
the loves moved along way too fast and weren't believable especially
the Piper / Noah love interest.

After the Q&A session they had posters of "Ten Inch Hero" which they
were offering to sell and the producer and director would autograph
the poster. Personally I did not purchase the poster. After paying
$11 for the showing of the movie I felt they should have given us the
poster. After all they need the advertising since it hasn't been
picked up for DVD or mass distribution in the US. So they should give
us these items to help them not make us pay for promotional posters.

Friday night concluded with the ****tail party which was set to start
at 10:00 PM but opened later (again another event that didn't start on
time). To attend this party we had to pay $65 per ticket and the
reason for that was that the stars were going to attend. I personally
dressed in nice clothes (shirt, tie, dress pants, and blazer) as I was
expecting this to be somewhat fancy. Well they stuffed us into this
small room which was hot and with all those that came we could hardly
move. Chad Linberg, Samantha Ferris, Gabriel Tigerman, and Jim Beaver
attended but they got mobbed so I never got any time with them. We
were told by the con organizers to not take photos of the stars
because if we wanted their photos we could pay for a photo op with
them later during the con but most folks didn't listen to that rule
and were snapping photos. They did have an open bar but that was it!
When I think of a ****tail party I think of an open bar, open space
to mingle, and waiters serving hours' divers. This was definitely not
worth $65 but I had a great time and met a fellow fan by the name of
Denise and I met Bambi who attends the Supernatural chats on Thursday
night. It was a great to meet her and we had our picture taken
together.

After the ****tail party I was pretty tired and went straight to bed!
