Eyecon Report Page 5

As far as the con goes—I was very disappointed. I heard this was the
first Eyecon but someone said that wasn't true but that this was the
first Supernatural Eyecon—that this wasn't the organizers first
convention. My beef is how much this convention cost:

The hotel room is going to cost me close to $500 (which I could have
left Sunday night which would have been good and I would have saved
money but I didn't want to risk it and I did miss the convention
rate). Therefore I'm not so much ticked about the price of the hotel
but add it to all the other costs and its adding to my disgruntled mood.

The platinum pass was $255 and for that I got a seat in the 7th row, a
ticket to a concert that while it was good it wasn't something I would
have gone to otherwise, and I got to go to a crappy "exclusive party"
which I'm still trying to figure out what was so exclusive about it.
Oh my autograph ticket for Jared Padalecki was included in this price
which was the only good thing about it.

The ****tail party was $65 for which I got a glass of wine—most
expensive glass of wine I've ever had. With how small the room was
there wasn't much room to move around and mingle with the stars. The
banquet cost $85 and for that we got a cheap meal and didn't even get
to sit near a star of the show. Usually when you buy a VIP pass (this
con called them "platinum") you get the incidentals included in this.

For the "Ten Inch Here" showing I paid $10 which is what a movie would
cost but then to ask me to pay another $10 for a movie poster was
ridiculous and I wouldn't do it. At most cons I've attended the
promotional pictures or posters were FREE. After all they want and
need the publicity for their movies / films so they should give us
those materials to spread the word, not ask us for more money.

I paid $30 for Jim Beaver's autograph which is pretty normal so I
wasn't upset by this. I got autographs from all of the other stars
(except Steve Carlson) which was $20 a piece (and I paid $6 a piece
for photos of each of them for them to sign). Again this is a typical
cost at a con so that alone didn't upset me. I did at the last minute
pay $60 for Jared's photo op which was a bit high I felt but again
this is a normal for a con.

They then were selling t-shirts and tote bags with the Eyecon logo and
to be honest they looked cheaply made (seemed like they printed the
logo on the computer paper you can iron on to fabric and then were
selling it like that) so I passed. Besides they weren't showing love
to the big people because the largest t-shirt size was XL and trust me
when I say there were quite a few fan girls who made me look small!
For some odd reason I did buy the plague for $30 (marked down from
like $60 originally).

My purchases at the dealer room were again not a big deal since that's
normal for a con and I didn't have to buy them but chose to. I just
had to buy a Supernatural t-shirt and hat.

So all and all my beef is with the cost of the platinum ticket for
what you got and way over-priced ****tail and banquet tickets. To do
it all over again I definitely would not go to the ****tail party or
the banquet. Not sure if I would do a platinum pass again or not –
I'd have to think about that. There is talk of them doing another
Eyecon in September, which personally sounds too soon, and that they
are trying to get Jensen Ackles to appear.

Now that I have joined the Supernatural fandom and have delved into
going to Supernatural cons it will be necessary for me to get Jensen
Ackle's autograph (and probably photo op) at some point so I can put
it next to Jared's. Now the hard part will be finding room on my
walls for all of these autographs!

In conclusion, I want to sincerely thank all of the online friends
(especially Karie, Amy, and Robin who spent almost the entire weekend
with me) that I got to meet in person this weekend. I had such a
great time with each and every one of you and I know our friendships
will continue and we'll likely be at more cons together soon! A
special shout out and thanks goes out to Karie in addition to making
our group's badges, also went out of her way to pick me up at the
airport on Friday and then again to drive me to the airport Monday for
my flight out. Karie you rock! My sincerest thanks for all you did
to help me have a great weekend.
