Men's Singles Quarter-finals

Top seed Lin Dan (CHN) nailed 6th seed Kenneth Jonassen (DEN) 15-10,15-3 to advance to the semi-finals where he will meet 3rd seed Lee Chong Wei (MAL). Lee took down defending champion Chen Hong (CHN) 9-15,17-14,15-2 and will be quite a match for Lin Dan whom he defeated at the 2005 Malaysia Open final.

4th-seeded veteran Peter Gade Christensen (DEN) halted the run of unseeded World Junior Champion Chen Jin (CHN) 15-6,15-13. He will face 5th seed Lee Hyun Il (KOR) who ousted 15th seed Shoji Sato (JPN) 15-7,15-11.

Women's Singles Quarter-finals

Olympic Champion Zhang Ning (CHN) and World Champion Xie Xingfang (CHN) continued their march to another likely showdown in the final. Zhang defeated her opponent Eriko Hirose (JPN) 11-8,11-6 whilst Xie downed World Championship bronze medalist Xu Huaiwen (GER) 11-2,11-5. The other two semi-finalists are Pi Hongyan (FRA) and two-time Olympic silver medalist Mia Audina Tjiptawan (NED).

Doubles Quarter-finals

Three unseeded Malaysian men's doubles teams unexpectedly made the semi-finals, with a lone Danish pair Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen, seeded No. 2 at this competition. Malaysia's only seeded pair (7th seeds) however failed to reach even the quarter-finals.

Similarly, three Chinese women's doubles teams made the semi-finals but that is to be expected since they are all top ranked pairs. Lee Hyo Jung-Lee Kyung Won (KOR) grabbed the remaining semi-final spot as usual with a 15-8,15-9 victory over a Japanese pair.

In the mixed doubles, defending champions Nathan Robertson-Gail Emms (ENG) fought to a three-set win against World Cup Champions Xie Zhongbo-Zhang Yawen (CHN) 15-5,8-15,15-13. They will face World Champions Nova Widianto-Lilyana Natsir (INA) in the semis. Two-time Olympic Champions Zhang Jun-Gao Ling (CHN) showed they're still a force to be reckoned with by exacting revenge against Sudket Prapakamol-Saralee Thungthongkam (THA) 15-7,15-4. The Thai pair had defeated them in two previous occasions last year.

Men's Singles Semi-finals

The semi-final between the current World No. 1 Lin Dan (CHN) and World No. 2 Lee Chong Wei (MAL) was arguably the best match of the tournament so far. Lin Dan (CHN) streaked ahead in the first set to win 15-9. Although he led 8-2 in the second set, his concentration waned which allowed Lee Chong Wei to strike back and win the set 15-10. In the rubber set, Lin Dan appeared slower and more lethargic than his usual self, and Lee Chong Wei pulled to a 8-2 and 13-6 lead. At this point, Lin Dan regained his aggressive approach and moved within 3 points at 10-13. According to Lin Dan in an interview later, that was the moment his confidence returned and he went on to take the match 15-9,10-15,17-14.

7th seed Lee Hyun Il (KOR), the 2005 Indonesia Open and Chinese Taipei Open champion, started badly but came back strong to beat 4th seed Peter Gade Christensen (DEN) 3-15,15-8,15-1. Veteran Peter Gade was in total control in the first set but lost his steam as the match stretched longer. By the third set, he gave up physically and mentally, conceding numerous unforced errors as Lee piled on the points.

Women's Singles Semi-finals

Both Zhang Ning (CHN) and Xie Xingfang (CHN) were stretched the distance before they progressed to the final as anticipated. Zhang Ning had to overcome an improving Pi Hongyan (FRA) 11-3,9-11,11-3 while Xie Xingfang battled from a set down to defeat Mia Audina Tjiptawan (NED) 11-13,11-0,11-7.

Men's Doubles Semi-finals

2nd seeds Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen (DEN) ousted unseeded Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Gan Teik Chai (MAS) 17-14,15-9 while veterans Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah (MAS) overwhelmed Lin Woon Fui-Mohd Fairuzizuan Tazari (MAS) 15-8,15-7.

Women's Doubles Semi-finals
Top seeded defending champions Gao Ling-Huang Sui (CHN) and Olympic Champions Yang Wei-Zhang Jiewen sailed into the women's doubles final. Gao-Huang disposed compatriots Wei Yili-Zhang Yawen (CHN) 15-11,15-9 while Yang-Zhang pounded 2nd seeds Lee Hyo Jung-Lee Kyung Won (KOR) 15-4,15-9.

Mixed Doubles Semi-finals

3rd seeds Nathan Robertson-Gail Emms (ENG) took down World Champions Nova Widianto-Lilyana Natsir (INA) 15-12,15-4 in the semi-finals. Emms was very sharp and effective at the net and was rather instrumental in their victory.

4th seeds Zhang Jun-Gao Ling (CHN) survived a hard-fought match against top seeds Lee Jae Jin-Lee Hyo Jung (KOR) 17-16,15-11. The first set was very close and could have gone either way and changed the outcome of the match.

2006 All-England Finals

Men's Singles

In his third consecutive All-England final, top seed Lin Dan (CHN) dominated play against 5th seed Lee Hyun Il (KOR) to regain the men's singles crown he won in 2004. In spite of a gruelling semi-final yesterday, Lin Dan brushed aside suggestions of his suspect fitness by racing to a 8-3 lead early in the match. Lee Hyun Il showed flashes of his semi-final brilliance by pulling within a point but Lin Dan accelerated his game again to clinch seven points in a row and win 15-7. In the second set, Lin Dan was down 3-5 but mustered an extra burst of energy within himself to take the next six points. At 9-5, Lin Dan fell down awkwardly after a huge jumping smash and appeared to injure his left knee. Fortunately, he recovered with a properly strapped knee and grabbed the next five points despite reduced mobility, thanks to several unforced errors by Lee Hyun Il. Lee saved a few match points but Lin Dan still won the set 15-7 and the match.

Women's Singles

World Champion Xie Xingfang successfully defended her title with a 11-6,4-11,11-2 victory over Olympic Champion Zhang Ning (CHN). Xie Xingfang opened the match strongly to take the first set, but Zhang Ning levelled with good defensive play in the second. Zhang Ning lost her rhythm in the third set, making lots of unforced errors and conceding the match to Xie Xingfang. Zhang Ning has never won an All-England title before and would have to wait another year for her next attempt.

Men's Doubles

Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen (DEN) regained their All-England men's doubles title by defeating Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah (MAS) 6-15,17-14,15-2.

Women's Doubles

In a repeat of the 2004 Olympic final, Gao Ling-Huang Sui (CHN) turned the tables on their compatriots Yang Wei-Zhang Jiewen (CHN) 6-15,15-11,15-2 to take their record-breaking sixth consecutive women's doubles title.

Mixed Doubles

Olympic Champions Zhang Jun-Gao Ling (CHN) captured their third All-England title by defeating defending champions Nathan Robertson-Gail Emms (ENG) 12-15,17-14,15-1. Robertson-Emms came back from 5-11 down to take the first set, but squandered five match points in the second set. They were 10-13 down and grabbed four points for a match-point. Zhang-Gao's defense was impeccable and they finally levelled before notching the next three points to push a rubber set. Robertson was obviously fatiqued in the third set and Zhang-Gao used this to their advantage to easily capture the deciding set.
