Team Singapore fell 2-3 to Team North Korea in the round of 16. Team Japan's Ai Fukuhara won two points to take her team to the semis over Hungary. Tie Yana contributed two points to lead Team Hong Kong to victory over Austria.

Top seed Team China easily routed a relatively inexperienced Team North Korea 3-0 to enter the semi-finals. Most of the players in both Team Belarus and Team South Korea played the same defensive style and Belarus wore down North Korea 3-1. Semi-Finals

Men's Team

Team China and Team Germany treated the fans in the packed stadium with some brilliant display of top-notch table tennis. Timo Boll (GER) played unbelievably well to stage a comeback from two sets down and defeat Ma Lin (CHN) 3-2 in the first match. World Champion Wang Liqin (CHN) trailed in each set but played the big points better to level the score with a 3-0 win against Christian Suss (GER). Olympic finalist Wang Hao (CHN) then put China ahead with a comfortable win. The match of the day was evidently between the top two ranked players in the world, Wang Liqin (CHN) and Timo Boll (GER). They fought tenaciously before Wang Liqin prevailed in five sets to send Team China through to the final. In the other semi-final, South Korea had an easier time winning 3-0 against Hong Kong.

Re: 2006 Liebherr World Team Table Tennis Championships Results and Updates (Bremen, Germany)

Finals

Men's Team

Team China dazzled the crowd with their exquisite skills and roared to a surprisingly easy 3-0 victory over Team South Korea. China's first singles Wang Hao, an Olympic finalist and men's doubles World Champion, started off strong for his team and controlled the entire match to defeat a lacklustre Worlds semi-finalist Oh Sang Eun in straight sets. In the second singles, World Champion Wang Liqin faced off against Olympic Champion Ryu Seung Min and the match lived up to its high expectations. Wang powered to a first set victory but Ryu played some delicate spins and solid returns to take the next two sets. Wang adapted to Ryu's shots in the next two sets and regained control of the match to win 3-2 from a set down. Ma Lin, former triple World Cup winner, used his experience to grab the big points in each set to defeat the young and lanky Lee Jung Woo and wrap up the title match for China.

Results :

China - South Korea 3-0

Wang Hao - Oh Sang Eun 11-6,11-8,11-4

Women's Team

Reigning Olympic champion Zhang Yining (CHN) was instrumental in Team China's 3-1 victory against Team Hong Kong in the final. Zhang crushed former Worlds finalist Lin Ling (HKG) 3-0 in the first singles, but World No. 2 Guo Yue (CHN) was a bundle of nerves against former World University Games champion Tie Yana (HKG) and she surprisingly lost 1-3. Sydney Olympic champion Wang Nan (CHN) gave China the lead in the third singles but not without a scare. Wang Nan trailed 0-2 in her match and had to struggle to win the third set before taking the next two sets 11-8,11-3. Zhang Yining had much less problems against Tie Yana, winning 3-0 to seal the victory for China.

Results :

China - Hong Kong 3-1

Zhang Yining - Lin Ling 11-4,11-9,11-6
Guo Yue - Tie Yana 8-11,11-9,9-11,20-22
Wang Nan - Lau Sui Fei 7-11,12-14,12-10,11-8,11-3
Zhang Yining - Tie Yana 11-8,11-3,11-9
