Brazil retains 2006 Swiss Invitational women's volleyball title with 3-2 win against China


In a repeat of last year's final, World Grand Prix champions Brazil came from behind to win 3-2 against Olympic champions China in the final. Last year, Brazil was trailing 0-2 but launched a spirited comeback to take the title 3-2. This year, they opened the match strongly, attacking from all flanks to take the first set 21-15. China began to adapt to Brazil's game in the second set and they clinched the next two sets 25-17, 25-20. Once again trailing 1-2 behind China, Brazil strengthened their blocks at the net in the fourth set to win 25-21 and even the score at 2-2. Brazil kept their momentum in the deciding set, and managed to maintain a narrow lead throughout the set to wrap up the match 15-12.

Brazil had taken out Cuba 3-1 in the semi-finals whilst China was stretched to five sets by World champions Italy. China had played and won two Grand Prix tournaments earlier prior to this meet, with Cuba finishing as runners-up at both tournaments.
