posticon Zhao Ruirui to continue recuperation of her knee injury in 2005

Chen Zhonghe, head coach of Chinese women's volleyball team, has decided to rest Zhao Ruirui in 2005. Zhao Ruirui injured her knee at a training camp in April 2004 and although she made it to the Athens Olympics team, she suffered a relapse in a group match and was rushed to the hospital.

"I do not intend to use Zhao Ruirui in any of the meets this year. It's better for her to focus on her recuperation in 2005."

Zhao Ruirui is the tallest player among the Chinese and her absence will certainly impact the blocking prowess of the team, especially against the tall European and American players.

After the 2004 Olympics, Zhao Ruirui's main objective is a full recovery from her injury and Chen Zhonghe has also stated many times that he'll not put her at risk before she recovered completely. She successfully removed the steel plate for her knee at the end of April this year but it'll still take some time for her knee to return to its previous condition.

"After removing the steel plate, she still needs at least three months to follow up with her treatment and continue to rest her knee for full recovery. I've decided to let her join the team for some training before the 2005 World Volleyball Championships. Zhao Ruirui's main preparations are for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which is why she cannot afford to put her knee in unnecessary risk at the moment."
