Asian Track and Field News Updates ( including articles and interviews )
China : Olympic Champion Liu Xiang timed 13.22 to win his third consecutive men's 110m hurdles title at the Osaka Grand Prix in Japan. This meet was the first one Liu Xiang attended since he recovered from his injury and he wasn't expecting a fast time. Due to lack of competition, he faltered at the start of the race but his techniques enabled to catch up with the rest of the field and win comfortably.
Japan : At the same Osaka meet, 17 year-old Yuriko Kobayashi set a new Japanese record of 4:07.87 in the women's 1500m race. Her time bettered the previous record by around five seconds. Kobayashi came in second behind Australian Sarah Jamieson (4:03.51) in this race and was also the 1500m silver medalist at the World Junior Championships in 2005. Kobayashi mentioned she was aiming for the World Championship B selection standard of 4:10 but was delighted with her new Japanese record; this record has certainly boosted her confidence for her medal ambitions at the Worlds next year. Another Japanese record tumbled in the women's long jump where Kumiko Ikeda leapt to 6.86 meters which would rank her sixth in last season's world rankings.

Some fine performances from Chinese runners in Reebok GP, New York
Gu Ming ran the 1st Chinese sub-4 minute mark in 1 mile (3:59.75, 10th). Tang Baojun was also close in 4:01.39 (11th).
NG champion, Li Xiangyu from Shanxi province continued his consistent form to run a 1:47.43 in 800m and came in fifth position. Hope Mu Weiguo's 12-year-old national record (1:46.44) will be broken soon.
Liu Qing, another NG champion, showed her consistent performance and finished 5th in 1500m (4:07.34), not far off her best.
In the world record breaking race of 5k, Olympic champion, Xing Huina is on her way back to finish 4h in 15:39.84, much better than her last 5k race (16 min ++). Jin Yuan has shown great improvements in US but this time, she only managed to finish 8th in 16:20.35.
On the field event, Asian Record holder, Gao Shuying jumped 4.44 to finish 2nd, a seasonal best.

Canada vs China in Vancouver, Canada on Jun 8
For 2008 BJ Olympics, Chinese team exposes more than ever in the past. This time, Chinese team mixed with some atheletes who just participated the ITA-RUS-CHN meet last week chanllenged Team Canada. Under a cold damp weather, China yielded to Canada by 96-75.
The results were generally moderate due to the weather conditions.
On men's side, China won men's 110m hurdle (Shi Dongpeng, 13.67s), javelin (Li Rongxiang, 79.96m), high jump (Wang Hao, 2.15m) and 4 x 400m (3:10.55). We also saw the best Chinese 400m runners, Wang Xiaoxu and Tang Biao come in 3rd (46.81s) and 4th (46.91s) in 400m. The race was won by Tyler Christopher in 45.30s. Li Xiangyu ran 1:47.95 in 800m to finish 2nd.
There were 2 wins on women's side. One of which attibuted to Asian champion, Huang Xiaoxiao. In her 1st race in 400m hurdle this year, she won the race in 56.80s which was considered a good opener of the season under the race condition. Chinese also won 4 x 400m with 3:40.03 featuring Tang Xiaoyin, Li Xueji, Huang Xiaoxiao and Wang Xing. Olympic champion, Xing Huina, entered 1500m this time but only finished in 4th position with 4:16.94. Liu Qing, a double national game winner, lost to experienced Diane Cummins in a relatively slow race. The results: 2:04.23 vs. 2:04.60. Asian record holder, Gao Shuying, recorded a "no height" in pole vault and the champion result was only 3.90m
