Japan Open Finals : Singles titles went to Lin Dan and Zhang Ning; Thai pair won mixed doubles title

Both singles finals were a repeat of the 2005 All-England finals, and both results were a reversal of the outcome there.

In the men's singles finals, top seed Lin Dan avenged his 2005 All-England finals loss by his victory over Chen Hong. He took the first set 15-12, and in the second, All-England champion Chen Hong conceded the match by pulling out while trailing 0-2.

In the women's singles, Olympics champion Zhang Ning also turned the tables on World No. 1 Xie Xingfang 11-7, 11-8. Zhang Ning took the initiative early in the match and controlled the net. She raced to an early lead and never looked back in the first set. In the second, she attacked vigorously to pull ahead again. However, unforced errors started to creep into her game which allowed Xie Xingfang to pull within a point at 7-8. Services were interchanged several times before Zhang Ning finally dug deep to grab two more points. Xie Xingfang saved a matchpoint, added another point before finally conceding defeat.

Thai pair, Sudkey Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkarn, won the mixed doubles title, defeating second seed Jens Eriksen and Mette Schjoldager 15-13, 14-17, 15-7. This win is the best Grand Prix results ever for Thailand, according to their coach.
