Day 3 Quotes after finals
Kosuke Kitajima (JPN) finally won his first gold medal of the meet in the men's 100m breaststroke.
"I'm very pleased with my victory. Last night, I didn't swim too well and today I wanted to win so much. "
"It's still a little early to talk about 2008, I hope to win all of my remaining events."
Zhao Jing (CHN), winner of the women's 50m backstroke.
"It's a great relief for me after winning this event. Yesterday's bitter taste (she lost in the 200m back) has been erased. "
"This is not my PB, I still have to train harder. Gao Chang is the world championship record holder, she has a faster PB but 50m back is a sprint event so it's anybody's race."
On what Head coach instructed her before the race.
"Mainly encouraging words, and he also told me which areas to watch out for in the race, e.g. some details on turns."
"This victory can help boost my self-confidence. Backstroke has always been the weakest stroke for our women's team. I hope this experience can help both the team and myself bridge the gap between us and the best swimmers in this stroke ."
Rafd Zyad Almasri (SYR), winner of the men's 50m freestyle.
"I totally didn't expect to win a gold medal. This is my first international victory. I hope many Syrians watched me win on television and felt the same sense of pride I experienced. My country of birth is Germany, I've won swimming titles thrice already in Germany."
Yang Jieqiao (CHN), the women's 400m freestyle winner.
"This is my Asian Games debut so there wasn't too much pressure on me to deliver. I was even rather excited before my race. Coming here (to Doha), my main goal is to improve my PBs and gain more experience. "
"Today I didn't pace my race properly and my time ends up pretty mediocre, but my pet event is still to come -- the 800m freestyle. I hope to swim much faster in that race, although I'm not thinking about the gold medal as yet. After the Asian Games, I'll prepare for the 2008 Olympics and hope to do my best there."

Interview with Wu Peng
Q: After winning the men's 200m fly gold medal, what did you do when you returned to the Asian Games village ?
A: I contacted my mother. She watched my race on television and also congratulated me for the win. Afterall, it really wasn't an easy victory for me.
Q: Did you lose sleep that night ?
A: I had no problem sleeping that night. Regardless what was the outcome, I was at peace with myself. The Asian Games is only considered a small test for us, the real test is at the World Championships and the Olympics.
Q: Are you pleased with your final results ?
A: Rather pleased, I would say it was a little better than expected. My prediction was a time within 1:55.5 but I actually swam 1:54.9.
Q: Your time is now very close to Michael Phelps's world record of 1:53.80.
A: Still more than a second apart. Many people thought a second's difference is very small but once you've reached a certain level as an athlete, it'll be tough to improve by even a few hundredths of a second. So for me to bridge this one-second gap will require a lot of hard work.
Q: How are you different from four years ago at Busan, Korea ?
A: I was a rookie then. After four years of competition and training, I'm now one of the leaders in the men's team and holds more responsibilities. With responsibility, the pressure to succeed has also increased.
