Liverpool defeated West Ham after penalty kicks in FA Cup thriller.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" echoed round the Millennium stadium for another season after Liverpool won the FA Cup in an exciting football final against West Ham. The Reds took the European Cup last season and ended this season with yet another important trophy. West Ham hammered a two-goal lead ( goals from Dean Ashton and an own goal from Liverpool's Jamie Garragher ) in the first 30 mins of the first half and it appeared all was lost for Liverpool but Djibril Cisse pulled one back shortly for the Kops in the 32nd minute. The first half thus ended 2-1 in West Ham's favour.

In the second half, captain Steven Gerrard fired a powerful volley into the corner of the net in the 54th minute to draw level but ten minutes later, the Hammers edged ahead again through Paul Konchesky's goal which was more like an attempted cross. Just as it appeared all forlorn again for the Reds and their fans, Captain Gerrard came to the rescue again; he blasted a scorching shot from 30 yards away to nail the equaliser, staging one of the best comebacks in FA Cup history.

The 30-minute extra time was less than stellar as the players crumbled under fatigue and injuries although there was a bright moment when the Hammers nearly stole the trophy but were thwarted by the goal-post. Liverpool's Spanish goalkeeper Jose Reina was undoubtedly another hero for the team besides Gerrard, after he stopped three of West Ham's four penalties for a 3-1 win in penalty kicks for Liverpool. The Reds have lifted their seventh FA Cup in the 125th FA Cup final and the Hammers could also leave with their heads high for providing arguably one of the best finals in the Cup's tournament history.
