LOL, good one. Who knows, they all seem to go into hiding for months at a time and then come out of the woodwork when they're feeling lonely and pathetic. Buncha slackers if you ask me.

RECOMMENDATION FOR
Bronze Star (With Combat "V" Distinguishing Device)

Case of Gunnery Sergeant Michael Cheramie

On April 4, 2003 while in Support of Operation IRAQI Freedom, Gunnery Sergeant Cheramie as the leader of the security team for the Jump Command Post of Regimental Combat Team 5 distinguished himself above and beyond the call of duty while engaged with guerilla forces along highway 6 in Central Iraq.

The RCT-5 Jump CP arrived at the position of an M1-A1 tank that had been immobilized by enemy small arms and Rocket Propelled Grenade fire. As the security team dismounted from their vehicle, they began to receive a large volume of small arms and sporadic Rocket Propelled Grenade fire. GySgt Cheramie immediately took charge of the situation and positioned the members of the team, began to suppress the enemy and directed the other members of his team to do the same in order to facilitate the tank crew's battle damage assessment. During this assessment, the tank crew and security element came under direct fire; the Tank Commander was shot and knocked to the ground. Upon hearing the call "Man down!" GySgt Cheramie quickly assessed the situation, ensured his Marines were behind cover and were suppressing the enemy, and then he exposed himself to fire and moved to the downed Marine. Seeing the need for additional medical supplies, GySgt Cheramie once again moved across open ground to his vehicle and back to the Marines' position with a first aid kit and assisted in rendering basic first aid. Once the Marine was cared for, he then moved to the Regimental Commander's vehicle to update the Commanding Officer.

Continually assessing the situation, GySgt Cheraime observed a high volume of fire coming from a building to the west; he quickly issued a fire command to the .50 cal gunner and directed his fire by directly engaging the target with tracer rounds from his service rifle. His fires and that of the .50 cal gunner effectively suppressed the enemy target. Realizing that the Regimental Commander and his Jump CP were in an exposed position, GySgt Cheraime selflessly advanced through the enemy fire and repositioned his security vehicle to shield the Commanding Officer and thereby facilitating the Commander's ability to command and control the fight.

GySgt Cheramie continually exposed himself to fire while moving from firing position to firing position, engaging targets, encouraging the Marines and directing the Marines fires on targets. When the medical evacuation vehicle arrived, a previously undetected enemy firing position wounded the driver. GySgt Cheramie immediately located the origin of the fires, and directed his men to return fire. His teams' and his own suppressive fires enabled the casualties to be loaded safely into the vehicle and evacuated out of the area. With the medvac complete, GySgt Cheramie took charge of the remaining tank crew and moved them to a safe position, ensuring they had water and were well covered. As the enemy fire continued, he moved around from Marine to Marine reassuring them and directing their fire. When a CH-46 Casualty Evacuation helicopter flew over, it began to receive a large volume of fire directed against it. GySgt Cheramie again led the suppression and destruction of the remaining enemy forces with his calm direction to his men and his accurate firing of his M-16A4 rifle. These fires allowed the CASEVAC helicopters to safely egress from the area and proceed to a landing zone to pick up many wounded Marines.

Through out the two-hour engagement GySgt Cheramie's calm demeanor under direct enemy fire, and inspirational leadership set the example for all Marines to follow. He was personally responsible for the delivery of aid to a fallen Marine, the protection of the Commanding Officer during times of heavy enemy fire, and the killing of numerous guerrilla fighters around his position. GySgt Cheramie's actions of April 4, 2003 were a great credit to himself the United States Marine Corps and the Naval service.

The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized.

You know. Dynan makes a good point. What where you doing at the gay pride parade?

That big long list of hot air sounds like a bunch of propaganda to me. From what I read in those two books, you were sitting around making coffee for the celebrities that graced your presence. ;-) And just to set the record straight OMNA should probably be referred to as OFANA (One Fat-Assed National Asset)

Hey when Dynan is the Grand Marshal of a Gay Pride Parade I gotta go see that!

Hey Ray, you still making wine? I live in the heart of wine country in the Temecula Valley.

Gayboy Dynan, Molly is still kicking. She is an old dog now, but she still gets around. I bet Dynan is about as fat as Opra.

Buzzard,

Way to go on the Bronze Star. I always knew you'd be a badass in a gunfight. Wish I could have been there with an M40A1. Good to hear that Molly is still around. I've got an old dog too. He's a lab, and a pretty good bird dog.

Don't know where the rumour that I was fat got started. Heard that one before. Still 175 lbs, PT all the time. Just did 25 dead hang pull ups this a.m.

You'll come see me at the Gay pride parade?? That's so........sweet. Make sure you bring your ...uh....."friend" who wrote that commendation. Makes me wonder what other "duties" you were performing. emoticon

Dynan I got a nice lab too. She is 7 now. She had picked up over 3,000 birds in her career as a bird dog.
