dougie mac ride
i checked the weather last night and could see i was in for a soaking sometime today, up this morning at 6am , poridge, eggs toast, tea, bannanas, it started bad there was a single magpie on the roof, and today the 13th , well off from dougie mac by 8.15 and did an average of 19.5mph to llangollen ,rode straight through, up the hill towards ruabon, DISASTER !!! knew i should have shot that magpie, of all the thing i have to fail on me, it happens over 50 miles from home, the saddle snapped clean off the seat pillar SSSHHH@@TE was one the expessions i used whilst trying to control the impending force of me from falling backwards on the spinning back wheel, so saddle in pocket, and the remnants of the deda magic stick sticking out of the frame, i rode out of the sadddle for the next ten miles till i found a few houses , i took the bull by the horns and knocked on a house front door, oops no one in , second house the lady answered, she had three mtb bikes and i could borrow the saddle and seat pin, next problem, they were too small, roll of tape, ???? luvvly wedged it in the top of my nice carbon frame it was a tad low and a butchers bike style plastic saddle, but it got me back to the finish, just as i was thinking that things couldn,t get much worse they sudenly did , the heavens opened, and like so many others today i had a serious drenching, apart from losing much time i still averaged 18.5mph overall for 120 miles, could things get worse ohhh yes, my wife collected me from the finish, the weather was dreadful, so was our recently accquired new mpv it managed too let me down just when i needed it most, complete electrical failure, i called the rac, they soon got us going again , overall a tough day out but a warm welcome in the hot tub later
