Living Field
anyone else have this album? it's really jazzy, smooth, and i'm curious as to what inspired the direction for that album. considering it was released in 1995, they didn't release PML until 1997 so what was going on inbetween that period because PML, in my opinion, really locked them into their new groove.

Re: Living Field
I think the whole pseudo-jazz thing really started back on White Incarnation, specifically with the songs Tonight and Good Night. Kool Spice took their sound almost completely into jazz and Living Field is like a half-way point inbetween the sound of Please Mr. Lostman and Kool Spice.
On the Walkin' on the Spiral documentary DVD, there's something mentioned about something happening to Sawao that inspired the Strange Chameleon single, though I'm not sure about exactly what.
I think that Living Field is probably the pillows' highest acheivement in musicality and variety, but I'd still take their alternative rock sound over it any day.

i completely agree. each album blows me away concerning variety. i swear nothing sounds the same to me and that takes great talent to establish a sound and not sound to same-y.
