Local Music

I have to say some really great musicains and bands have come out of the Twin Cities metro area. There is the obvious, Prince ("When You Were Mine"- emoticon) and a lot of people have heard of Soul Asylum, but there are some really fantastic lesser known bands that I highly reccomend if you like The Pillows.
The Gear Daddies
The Magnolias
Anything with Bob Mould-his solo work, Sugar and of course Husker Du.
The Suburbs
The Replacements
Bands from Wisconsin (just across the border) I reccomend that are a little more well known then the other bands I posted.
The Violent Femms
The Bodeans

All of these bands are amazing but they are all older bands. Some of them haven't put out a record in quite some time but if you can find any of their stuff I highly reccomend you check them out, they are all definitly worth a listen.

I also think it's a good idea to get the word out about bands in your area. Some of these bands are musical gold but will never get a chance to show the world how wonderful they are because they just aren't top 40 material (Thank God) so if you know if any good local bands in your area, be sure to post about them.

I have not heard of them. I will have to check them out if I ever get out of the damn house. emoticon

Do you like O.P. KING? If you do you should check out The Hillbilly Voodoo Dolls. Great bunch of guys and they really rock the house.

There's an unsigned local band here in Iowa City called The Lost Toys. Their website seems to be down/gone, but people can get three of their songs (or try to, anyway) from me on Soulseek.

I don't know any noteworthy bands from around SF. I'm sure there are some ( come on it's San Francisco) I just don't know any that I like.
