Trila Solahn Journal for after the Gala Event 120404

It was to be a short assignment, a mission as courier for a very rich client. It was hardly dangerous but was given to her because of Aja, one of the fastest ships in that part of the galaxy and Trila was only too glad to accept to show off her ship's amazing speed and stamina.

Just after take off, while on her way to meet up with this client, Trila noticed that Aja seemed to react sluggishly to her commands. She dismissed it as some kind of minor power drain but grew more concerned as her ship began to veer off course. She ran every diagnostic she could think of for her biological ship, but the reason behind her actions couldn't be found out and Trila could only surmise that Aja's systems weren't operating at full capacity, or had been tampered with. Though who or what had tampered with her, she couldn't tell.

As she flew along, her course in the direction of the star of an uncharted system, things began to grow worse as Trila pushed against Aja's throttle again for what seemed to the millionth time.

"Come on girl... what's up with you today?" she said to her ship, "You've been in the sun all week, I figured you'd be more than up for a run.."

She continued to toy with the systems in hopes that something would give. She desperately hoped that it wasn't anything too serious as there were hardly any planets in this area to call for help to. As she tried to reroute some of the power to the main drive, Aja suddenly surged forward and sped up, but it was way beyond what Trila had allotted her. She blinked at the sudden burst of speed and smiled though a little uneasily.

"Well..." she said warily, "that's a little more like it. Not quite what I had in mind though but much better.

She tried to guide her along and back on course since she had veered off slightly but it was no use. Aja shuddered against Trila's commands and instead of heeding Trila's course correction, she veered even further off course and went to maximum subspace speed. Trila by now was getting really nervous and actually feared for her own life.

"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa there!" she called out to the ship, "Aja, that's enough! Aja??"

Still futilely grabbing on for support, she immediately sent out a distress call for what good it would do. She then pulled back in her seat to get Aja to slow down, but it was no use. Her ship suddenly turned off the inertial dampening systems and began to do some wild maneuvering through her top speed. Something that even Trila herself wouldn't be able to accomplish she was sure. Her hand slipped on the handle of the controls and Trila went flying, slamming into the opposite wall. Aja did a wild somersault and Trila tumbled within, crying out in pain as her head came in contact with the console.

As Trila's eyes focused slightly, she then saw something that made her blood run cold. Aja had suddenly changed direction and was on a direct course with the nearby star. She kept flying this time straight and true and Trila knew that she had to do something more drastic this time. Even if it meant destroying every system her ship had. Something had driven Aja to go on a suicide run but Trila wasn't about to be taken down with her.

Weary and her head still pounding, she made her way to the main power console to access Aja's main power drive. She grabbed the wires connecting her main drive and tried to short them out.

"Come on Girl... be nice to me... just once more..." she whispered to her ship but it was no good. A high voltage charge coursed through the access panel, causing Trila to be sent flying across the room. Trila's screams went unheard as the charges surged through her body and slipped her into unconsciousness. Mere minutes had passed as Trila's eyes began to flutter open again. Aja was shaking hard and all of her systems were going dead. Trila groaned as she floated upside down, her whole body seemed to be on fire as she slowly tried to get to an upright position.

Meanwhile outside her hull, a ship sped toward Aja her and locked a tractor beam on her. However, since the beam did nothing to stop the ship, the ship fired on her, causing more damage to her main systems and overloading most of the others. Trila winced at the racket and wondered what was going on. She knew the noise wasn't coming from inside the ship.

Aja was dead but still drifting. It wasn't until another attempt with the tractor beam actually slowed her down enough to change course away from the star. For this Trila was relieved. She looked around at the darkened corridor of her ship and felt her way along the walls to the c0ckpit as the light from the star, poured into the view screen. The sudden change in course as the ship tractored Aja made her get bumped around again. She cried out in pain as both her ankle and her wrist began to throb in agony.

She could see through the window that their speed was increasing and both she and Aja were in tow, wherever it was they were going.

Lydial Ternatt couldn't have been happier with her newest treasure as she sat back and laughed at the ease of capturing her new ship.

"I should be given an award or something for being able to find the most unique things in the galaxy..." she said with a proud grin to herself. She reached over her large belly and pulled a short lever on her control panel as both ships entered hyperspace. She spun in her seat and lumbered out of it wondering to herself if salvaging things from that ship was going to be a problem. She knew she did quite a bit of damage to it in order to slow it down as she moved to a console and began working the controls.

Grabbing a bowl of hot food, she then moved back to her seat to enjoy the ride. She plopped her soggy frame into the seat spilling some of the contents onto her already dirty uniform, cursing to herself as she brushed it away. She checked her controls again as she sipped from the bowl.

"Hmpf, shouldn't be too long now, " she said.

After a half an hour, Ternatt hit the lever a second time, making both ships drop from hyperspace. Unfortunately the strain on the tractor beam was a bit too much and it failed, sending Aja cruising past the now stopped ship.

Lydial's face dropped, "What the...??"

She checked her now failed tractor beam and screamed as she quickly moved her ship to intercept Aja again. She easily slipped past her and settled slightly in front of her, matching her speed. She then tapped the thrusters slightly to slow down just enough to bump Aja to a stop. She smiled with satisfaction and moved around Aja again to send her docking clamps around Aja's emergency hatch.

She got out of her seat and lumbered toward the exit, "I should have done this before going into hyperspace."

She said with a sigh and moved over to the hatch, "I hope it's not too damaged. Hate to throw it away after all the trouble.

She checked the hatch pressure before opening it then and moved down to Aja's hatch. As she slid down into the darkened ship, she could hear someone calling. She inwardly cringed, "There's someone onboard? Great! Those sensor upgrades weren't worth the credits I paid for them."

"Hello?" Came Trila's voice, "I'm the owner of this ship... thanks for helping me... can I ask who you are??"

Lydial, floated toward the voice, "I am the NEW owner of this ship. that's who I am. Lucky for you, I came along when I did."

She came into her view to see Trila's outline from the dim light coming through Aja's front viewport.

Trila scowled visibly,"What do you mean, NEW owner?"

"Part of my fee for saving your life, let's say." Lydial said looking around, "Not that there is much left for a decent fee."

Trila's temper flared. How DARE this fat lard-ass of a cow take HER ship... sure it was dead... and the hopes of repairing it would probably be beyond what even the best engineers could do, but dammit, it was STILL hers...

"Awful hefty price wouldn't you say?" She shot back at her, "It MIGHT apply had I actually asked you to save my life..."

Lydial grabbed something not too far from Trila to stop her progress as she gave her a stern look, "Look, I'm in the salvage business, and from where I stand, this ship was headed for destruction one way or another. I figured my way was better for everyone, and in your case, I would say you should be happy with the outcome. However, if you want me to send this heap back into that star, I'll haul you back."

Trila scowled again. She hated it when she wasn't right. Especially since it meant losing her beloved ship to someone who was just going to scrap her. Yet it wasn't like she could just buy parts for her. Aja had been a living breathing organism and whatever went wrong, she had tried to do herself in. Trila knew deep down she should have never taken her out like that. Not when she was at her best. Now her beloved ship was dead and it was all her fault.

She sighed, "I hardly think there's anything left of Aja to salvage..."

Lydial nodded, "Yes, unfortunate for us both. I could drop you off at the nearest port, if you like."

She winced again as she tried to get herself more upright with the bad wrist, "Well a medical center would be better if you don't mind... my wrist is busted and I don't think my ankle is much better."

Lydial nodded again, "Follow me then...."

Simon DeForte's Journal 120404-2

He was laid back on his bed, hands behind his head. Many thoughts have gone through his mind since he last saw Trila. She had been sent on a mission on her own. Not the normal Pinnacle Inc. procedure, but Headquarters usually knew what they were doing.

The memory of their last conversation was a lasting one. He had explained what had happened during the past mission, with great detail. It seemed she was listening, but as always, she found fault with him. Yes, they had argued. It didn't last long though. He knew that arguing would lead to one of two things. Either them in bed or going separate ways. To his suprise, neither happened. Perhaps they had grown past the needs of the body and the stubborness that had caused them so many heartaches. Anything was possible. Even he wasn't sure what had happened, but he knew he was happy with the outcome.

**********

"You need to make it clear to me. Why did you try to kill me?", she asked. Her eyes were full of hurt and confusion. "I need to know. Just for me."

He had explained his position several times to her, and was getting frustrated with revisiting the terrible truth of the matter. "I thought you understood. I must have told you a hundred tims already."

"Make it a hundered and one, and don't hold back on the details."

A sigh escaped his lips and he took a seat. "OK, one more time, then." He had to think of a different way to explain it so that he wouldn't be dragged into yet another explanation of it all. He sat back and crossed his legs. "You know that there are times that we have to put on an act during a mission to get into places and gain the confidence of people, right?" He didn't wait for her to answer. "I was in a situation that called for such a performance. When I first arrived there, I went undiscovered for several days. I thought I was about to be free, when I was surrounded. The security check proved to me that it was not good enough. Too many holes. Being captured at the very end of the check was not going to change my mind. I decided to push further, and came up with a story of being undercover for the government. I was to test their security systems. I then began to go down a list of areas that had failed. Much to their astonishment, they realized that I was correct. It was then that they determined that my story had to be correct. That was yet another security flaw of theirs. They believed my story far too easily."

She nodded, since she had heard it all before. "I still haven't heard why you tried to kill me."

"I was getting to that. If I skip the details, you won't understand." He smiled briefly before continuing. "They figured me to be part of an undercover agency. One that the government formed to tighten security across all agencies and departments. I fell into the role with full force. They didn't even question whether the agency even existed. They were too afraid. The governent was in such a state that no one was sure what was to happen next. The government could turn into a dictatorship, or a revolution could create any other form of government at any minute. They saw me as some sort of savior for the moment. Someone they could turn to for help and advice. I didn't let them doubt me for a moment. I gave orders and took command. There were a few people who disliked me for that, but they kept their mouths shut. They were too afraid of what I could really do. That is if I was who I said I was."

"Ok, so how long did you take control before we arrived?" She was getting impatient. For some reason, she didn't remember hearing some of this.

He nodded. "It was three days. Three agonizing days. I didn't know if I could pull it off any long. Some of the commanders were beginning to question my authority. I had to prove to them that I was not someone to be trifled with. That was when you arrived. Everything was arranged. You would drop off the boy and leave. Nothing more was to come of it." He paused, looking at her eyes narrowing at him. "I should have known that you would make things difficult. I should have planned for that. After the past few days of pulling poo doo out of the air to keep the act up, I failed to plan for you. You wanted answers. You wanted to stop the hand-off. If you would have just left, as the others said, as I said, everything would have been different for us."

"So it's my fault? Why is it always my fault? You could have done or said something to us. You didn't have to order us killed." She was once again perturbed at his words. She wasn't going to take his accusations lying down.

He shook his head, wondering if she ever really listens to herself. "I never said it was your fault. I said I didn't think to plan for your reactions. It was my mistake. The only way to make good on it was to act as I did, and hope that you were as good as you had always been in the past. I was right to put my faith in your abilities. You got everyone off that planet in one piece. The order to shoot was to keep my end of the act intact, so that I could finish what we started. Little did I know that the government was right about the boy the entire time."

She said nothing. She only sat there, wondering why she still had feelings for him. Why did she still care for this man? He had armed soldiers shoot at her. If they had their way, she would be dead right now. All because he had to stay in his role as some secret agent for the government. Maybe she was wearing down. Maybe she didn't know what to think anymore. Whatever it was, things between them have changed. Maybe it was for the better, or maybe it was for the worse. Either way, she had to have more time for it to sink in. Since his return, everything was moving too fast, and was far too confusing for her.

"It turns out that the boy was really a maniac, with a heavily armed cult following him. If it wasn't for Keyan, I'd been one of his victims." He continued on, happy to be at the end of his explanation. "When I got back to Tynna, I was debriefed over the entire mission, and had to go through several medical exams. I didn't get a chance to see you until the ball. I wish I had a chance to speak with you before then, but it was impossible. In fact, I nearly missed the ball due to a late debriefing."

She nodded and looked away from him. "It still hurts. I understand it, but I don't. You know what I mean?"

"Yes, I know. It's not easy to come to terms with such an ordeal. I know I had a hard time explaining it to myself. The debriefings were the same way. I was lucky that some of the brass were in the same situation at times in their careers. Otherwise, you may have never seen me again." He voice was thick with sadness and remorse.

She looked up to him and threw her arms around him, giving him a tight embrace. "When will things get easier for us? We never get a break. It always seems to get worse and worse."

He put his arms around her, returning the embrace. "As long as we know deep down that we love each other, difficult or easy doesn't matter. We will always have each other." With a peck on the cheek, he leaned back from her and wiped away a tear. "When you get back, we can have dinner together and try to take our lives back. Okay?"

She nodded and wioed her eyes dry. "When I get back. You promise?"

"I promise. I'll be here waiting for you." He gave her a smile and another embrace, before letting her go.

**********

That was a week ago. She was due back from her mission over three days ago, and no one has heard from her. According to the brass, she never completed her mission. The client apparently made a huge fuss over it. Something had to have gone wrong, but he knew Trila was strong and would find a way to get back. Simon had asked to do a search for her, but he was met with hard refusals. In fact, he was grounded until her return. The waiting was driving him crazy. Where could she be? What could have happened to her? Those were questions that contantly turned in his mind. He had made a promise to her, and was hoping she would return so he could keep it.

Re: Pinnacle Inc. Journals for Gala Event 120404

It was now a week and a day past her due date. He hadn't heard from her or anyone else about her. There was no news at all. It drove him insane wondering what had happened to her and where she was. Consequently, he threw himself into his work and his job, keeping his mind busy and off of the subject. Yet, every so often, he would find himself staring off and thinking of those same questions.

"Hello, Stranger", said a gleeful voice.

Simon, who had been working under a shuttle, knew the voice immediately and quickly pulled himself out from under the shuttle. A smile lit his face as his eyes fell upon her.

"Where have you been? I've been so worried!", he exclaimed. His hard shell melted away as he rushed to embrace her. Her hair smelled sweet, as it had always smelled just after she washed it. He buried his face into it, inhaling deeply and relishing what he had missed for so long.
She threw her arms around him in return.

"I've just been very busy." She said, "but I'm back now. I couldn't leave my man waiting to take me out to dinner, could I? You promised after all."

Her eyes danced devilishly as her usual seductively sweet smile crossed her face.

"I'm just glad to have you home. We can go to dinner anytime you like..." He said softly, gazing into her eyes, fixated on them as he kept holding onto her. His embrace was strong as was his will. He didn't want to let her go again..... ever......

"Simon...?" a different voice broke through, "Simon, are you alright, man?". He shook his head, snapping out of his daze.

"Uh, yeah...yeah, I'm alright." he said quickly. He could feel his embarassment wash across his face, "Were you standing there long?"

"Not really." his friend said with a shake of his head. He eyes him curiously, "You sure you're alright? Maybe you should take some time off. You've been working for days without a break. My shuttle can wait. I'll just borrow Sid's. He owes me anyway."

Simon nodded, "Yeah, maybe I could use some rest," he said reluctantly. "Sorry about not getting it done for you, Carl."

"Ahh, don't worry about it. Go take a few days off and you can finish it for me later." Carl gave him a wary eye. "You.... will come back to finish it, won't you?"

"Of course!" Simon said quickly, "I just need to clear my mind, that's all. I'll just put my tools away and clean up before I leave. Your shuttle will be finished by the end of the week." He turned to his large storage unit, to begin putting things away.

"Good. If there's anything you need me to do for you, just say the word." said Carl with his usual smile. "You know I really do appreciate you working on my shuttle. I wouldn't trust anyone else to do this stuff."

"Thanks", Simon said with a returned smile.

Carl laid his hand to Simon's shoulder. "Now, go get some rest. Just let me know when you are ready to finish the job. No hurry. OK?"

Simon nodded. "Thanks again, Carl. I'll have it done soon. Don't worry."

"Good." He looked at the time then started off again. "Oh, I better go find Sid. You take care of yourself. Bye! "

Carl left the bay in a half run as Simon sighed heavily. It was times like this he was thankful for good friends like Carl. What bothered him though was that he was letting his concern for Trila get in the way of his concentration. It was distractions like this that caused him to let them down. He placed the tools and supplies back into their compartments in the storage unit, trying to put the disappointment of himself out of his mind.

After a few minutes of carefully storing them, he realized he had left one of this hydrospanners under the shuttle. As he turned to head back to the shuttle near it’s stern, he was oblivious to the figure that leaned on the nose of the shuttle. He settled down on a dollie and slid under the belly of the shuttle, grabbing the spanner once he was close enough. As he started to slide out, he suddenly spotted a pair of feet and a the tip of what appeared to be a walking stick near the front of the ship and cringed inwardly, hoping it wasn't someone else coming to ask him for another favour. The more he thought about it, the more he was going to like taking some time off.

The feet and walking stick began to move towards the stern of the shuttle. It was only moments later that the tapping of the walking stick and the heavy footsteps stopped. They were now just a meter from where he lay under the shuttle.

"Need a hand?"

A strange feeling surged through his body. That voice. Could it be? He shook his head, thinking it was just another one of his crazy daydreams.

She cleared her throat. "I said, 'Need a hand?' "

The tool dropped to the deck of the bay, as his heart came up to his throat. It was! He scrambled to slide out from under the shuttle, suddenly finding himself staring up at the face he had longed to see. A surge of emotions overcame him and his face broke into a smile. He scrambled to his feet and threw his arms around her, squeezing her tightly, lifting her off her feet. Her walking stick went unnoticed as it fell to the floor.

"It's good to see you too", she said with a mild groan, barely able to breathe from his embrace. The surprise of his hug and the sudden warmth of his embrace, stirred something deep within her. A lot had happened to her over the span of the past week. She lost her ship and was nearly killed in the process. An experience that left her barely able to walk and with a good few scars to prove it. Overall, she got a good dose of how fragile her own mortality was and it wasn't until now, as Simon held her, that it actually hit her and came rushing over her in the moment. She put her arms around him, pulling him to her just as tightly. She needed him so much right now and it felt so good to feel him against her again.

He loosened his squeeze on her and set her back down as he smiled down at her face. "Yes.... so good," he said with a cracking voice.

She could see his tearful eyes and knew he had worried and missed her more than she expected. He had always been the strong type. The type that hardly ever cried but he was different now. She didn't know if she liked it or not, but she did like that he was overjoyed to see her again. It was moments like this she felt silly for any doubts she had about him. When they finally stepped apart. She looked down and pointed to the deck near her feet.

"Could you get that for me? It hurts if I stand too long without it."

Simon looked down to see the walking stick that he hadn't noticed before and picked it up. He looked it over before handing it to her. "What happened? Are you ok?"

She looked down at her ankle with a frown, as she took the walking stick from Simon. "I'll be fine. It's just a little sore."

He blinked a couple times to get the blurriness from his eyes. "Trila, I've been so... uh, you sure you are OK?" He looked her up and down to see where else she might be hurt and sized up the plain outfit she was wearing. It wasn't the usual snug fitting outfit she normally wore.

She gave him a reassuring smile. "Yeah, of course. I'm tough and can handle it."

"No, I mean, you never walk around looking this this. You look... well, erm... you look awful." He drew back, knowing she was a bit sensitive over her looks, as most women were.

The look of happiness fell from her face and she scoffed. "Hmph! Gee, thanks! It's been well over a week since you last saw me and that's the best you can say?"

Simon grinned. "You know what I meant. I'm used to seeing you dressed better and glowing. Right now, you look like you just woke up." As soon as he saw her reaction to these words, he knew he had touched a nerve, most likely burying himself even deeper now. "But it looks good on you!" He added hastily in a futile attempt to smooth things over before she got too touchy. Of course, knowing Trila, nothing he said now could fix his blunder.

She saw the look on his face and smiled. "Yeah. I might look a little rough on the edges now, it's been a hectic trip. Once I get back to my apartment and get some decent clothes on, I'll be fine," She gave him a big smile. "So, you hungry?"

His smile returned. "Yeah, I did promise you a dinner, didn't I?"

"Yup," she replied with a grin, "and I'm starving..."

He slipped his arm around her shoulder. "Well then, let's get cleaned up and find the fanciest place on Tynna. Only the best for you."

She smiled, knowing the place he was talking about. She was more than surprised. "You can't afford that place." she said, "It's twenty credits just for dessert!"

"Just let me worry about that", he said with a grin as he gently guided her out of the bay.

Re: Pinnacle Inc. Journals for Gala Event 120404

Dinner for the most part was elegant. They chatted about the little things that happened while she was away, but it was only small talk. Nothing was mentioned of what Trila had been through. As they ate, Trila mostly avoided his eyes, only to glance up at him and then down at the food on her plate. Simon did much the same, but glanced around the restaurant once in a while. He was a little on edge, wanting very much to know what happened but somehow he got the feeling that talking about it would make her uncomfortable. He had already tried to steer the conversation there a few times only to have the topic changed. The curiosity got the better of him and he swallowed the last bite of his meal hard before asking outright. "You know, I was really worried about you. I missed you", he said.

Trila smiled and glanced up at him, "I had a feeling you would. I missed you too..."

He regarded her carefully, "So... what happ....?"

"Aja is gone, Simon." She said suddenly cutting his words short.

"What?" He blinked in surprise, not quite understanding what she meant. Was her ship stolen? Destroyed?

Trila stared at her plate, pushing around the remainder of her meal with her fork."She's gone.... dead....."

"But how? What happened out there?" His curiosity was peaked now as Trila let out a long sigh and prepared herself for the long story. She spoke of how Aja had began to maneuver erratically and plummet towards the star. Then how Ternatt saved Aja from dropping into the star and then took her to a spaceport. She spoke of her medical care and her broken ankle. It was gut wrenching to go through it all over again. Aja meant a lot to her and the ordeal was still a little unreal.

"And Ternatt didn't tell you what happened? What caused her to fly off like that?" He was still confused. None of it really made sense to him. It sounded like a bad nightmare.

Trila shook her head, still wondering deep down what really happened. "The only thing she wanted was Aja. I don't think she really cared. I pretty much guessed that Aja had to have picked up something while here on Tynna, anyway. Some kind of fungus or plant disease."

"You don't think she was tampered with?" His mind was working overtime again, as it used to do before Trila went missing. He knew very little of organic ships, so if it wasn't mechanical, he didn't understand it very much.

Trila shook her head, sadly. "No, it was nothing like that. I would have detected that right away."

He nodded, "You did have a way with knowing that ship a little too well. I was starting to get jealous." He tried to lighten the mood as he reached across the table and touched her hand. This was supposed to be a happy occasion after all.

Trila smiled up at him and turned her hand over to clasp his, but there was sadness still in her eyes. "Hey, she was just a ship... I'll always have you..." she said softly.

"You better believe it..." He said giving her hand a squeeze. He raised her fingers to his lips, still holding onto her eyes with his. He had something else to ask her. Something he had planned on since before she had left. It was to be a suprise for her when she returned, but with Aja's death and Trila's harrowing ordeal, it didn't seem right to ask. However, not being the right time had never stopped him before.

"I know this probably isn't the right time to ask this..." he said softly, "But it might be good time since... well uh... you don't have a ship now."

Trila regarded him curiously.

"I, um... thought that... you and I could... " He ran his fingers through his hair. He was having trouble pulling the words from his well rehearsed speech about the subject. He had gone over and over how to bring it up and tell her, but the conversation didn’t quite go the way he planned it and he found himself having to reword what he was going to say. Of course, this was also something he was never very good at. He could fool rulers and generals with his ad-libs, but not Trila.

"I had planned on asking you this even when Aja was still... alive but... "

Trila looked at him oddly, wishing for him to get to the point.

Simon stiffened up, finding a new way to approach the subject. "I've had my eye on her for quite some time now and I wanted your approval before I went for it with her. She's got a good body on her and looks quite impressive. Of course she could use help in the looks department, but given your knowledge of that stuff, I figure you could help with that part. I checked her out already and ...."

He stopped, seeing the look of horror on her face. It was suddenly followed by a flash of anger in her eyes. He now knew that this wasn’t going the way he had expected. What did he say?

Trila's eyes began to blurr with tears. Was she hearing him right? How dare he ask her approval to make it with some ugly tramp? How dare he ask her to make her look pretty for him? What kind of girl did Simon find to take her place? So many questions running around in her mind, yet she was so angry right now all she managed to get out was, "Who is she?"

He had the look of confusion on his face. What the heck was she talking about? Then, like a glow rod switching on over his head, he realized that it wasn't what he had said at all. It was what he had NOT said.

"Oh! No! It's not like that! I'm talking about us buying a ship together. A joint project that we could call our own." His eyes softened a little and he let his lips form a grin. "Some people buy a house together, but I figured a ship would be more to your liking."

Trila suddenly felt very silly. The corners of her tearful eyes went up as she smiled, but the tears remained.

His grin left his face. He thought that he had explained himself well enough to fix yet another of his many blunders. "But if you still need time to get over Aja, you know, get back on your feet, I understand", he said quickly. "If you don't think this is a good idea, just say so and we can forget I even mentioned it..."

As he stammered on, she grinned, then she started to laugh a little. Trila took his hand. "Simon..." she said.

"Yeah...?" Worry was evident on his face.

"I think it's a fantastic idea..."

His grin returned. His worries were now gone, for the moment. "I'll show her to you tomorrow morning. I'm sure you will like her."

A single tear of happiness traced it's way down her cheek and to her chin. He reached over and caught it, as it fell away from her face. His hand clenched it tightly, and he drew it to his heart.

"I'll keep this tear drop close to my heart. It will serve as a reminder of how tender your love is, and how I should cherish it. Always."

He put her hand to his lips once more, and gently pressed them against it.
