1. The Illuminatus! trilogy, Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea- this **** will change your life. no joke. NOT to be taken lightly. this is a MIND****.
2. LOTR
3. Band of Brothers, Stephen Ambrose - the inception of the 101st airborne, 505th PIR through their invasion of Europe and the taking of Hitler's last refuge, The Eagle's Nest
4. 1984, Orwell
5. Animal Farm, Orwell again
6. Alaska - James Michener
7. The Covenant - James Michener - ever curious about how South Africa came to be as it is?

9. Chesapeake - Michener again
10. Poland - you guessed it
11. Centennial - yeah, I REALLY like Michener - this one is a geological/environmental/socio-political history of the American West. Ever wonder what people mean by the term 'robber baron'?
12. Jitterbug Perfume - Tom Robbins
13. Goodbye Mother Night - Vonnegut - a VERY romantic story about an American journalist and playwright in Germany in the early 30's through WWII, what he had to do to survive, and how he dealt with the consequences of his actions after the war.
14. Breakfast of Champions - Vonnegut
15. Goodbye Blue Monday - Vonnegut
16. Slaughterhouse Five - Vonnegut
17. The Tokyo-Montana Express - Brautigan
18. The Abortion - Brautigan
19. The Green Mile - Stephen King
20. The Dark Tower series - Stephen King
21. D-Day - Stephen Ambrose
22. Ghost Soldiers - Stephen Ambrose - story of the largest surrender of American troops in history, and how the remainder were rescued after a few years in a horrid Japanese P.O.W. camp.

Amanda has Slaughterhouse 5. I think I'll start with what we got. I just read the 1st 3 chapters of Galapagos.

Super awesome, love the way the guy writes. Definatly gonna read his stuff.

And it's strange. I usually take forever to read a book. But the way this guy words things, it makes reading much more of a breeze for me.

Galapagos is really good. I noticed they had a Wikipedia entry about it, but right at the top it has SPOILER WARNING!! So i didn't read it because i'm just past halfway through. I'm not sure if I like it or not... but it has some interesting topics and it's holding my interest. Apparently there is an apocolypse and a handful of humans survive on the Galapagos islands and they're forced to evolve. Vonnegut bounces from 1986 (when the story takes place) to 1 million years in the future. It's all from the perspective of a 3rd party... a ghost of sorts. (don't think you've gotten that far yet, Iz!) and it's well... strange. It's easy reading, but hard concepts to follow by the way he writes them. More review when I finish it!

I never said I was far at all. I just said the first 3 chapters. I still think it's a cool way to write.

okay, so you guys have one on me then. I haven't read that one yet. Really glad you like it that much, iz, he's one of my favorites of all time. And isn't it great to discover an author that you can just devour like that?
Slaughterhouse 5 is another really good one where he's bouncing around a bit. Some of that **** is true, too. I won't spoil it for ya, but he really was a p.o.w., in Dresden, in an abandoned slaughterhouse. It's really a wonder he survived, he was there during the Allies' destroy-everything-aboveground bombing campaign against Dresden. I'm gonna stop there, although I really want to expound on Goodbye Mother Night...don't want to spoil anything for you. Maybe after reading that one you'll kinda understand my fascination for WWII history.

As soon as I dig through the 4 boxes of books still in boxes from our move, then I'll find it.

Until then. I'm just gonna eat, poop, sleep, and work. Occasionally I have a chance to play guitar, get stoned, start an American revolution, and play Final Fantasy XII.

Sometimes, I do other stuffs too. emoticon
