How Important is the United States’ Image Internationally?

The image of the United States is apparently something close to a free fall. Over the past few years, discontent with the United States and its policies has intensified rather than diminished. Doubts about the motives behind the U.S.-led war on terrorism are pervasive in many parts of the world including within the states themselves. Nevertheless, the United States continues to do what it wants to do, which leads me to the following questions:

Does the United States having a good or bad image internationally impact military goals around the world? Yes? No? Why? Could it be one of the reasons Afghanistan went so differently than Iraq? How important is the United States’ image to the world, for the war against Terror and/or Iraq?

The U.S has a horrible image. Ever since Nixon/Regan/Bush Sr./Bush Jr. started ****ing things up. Hehe. Our country is like the bully in high school that would punch you in the face if he didn't like what you were doing. In the same way, the U.S. tries to police the world and bullies others in to being a democracy? Since when do we even act as a Democracy anymore?

I think that Afghanistan went and still is pretty rough now. Not nearly as much as Iraq, but still. They just keep that **** more quiet and divert your attention to Iraq moreso. They tried to relate Iraq and Afghanistan too much. Yes, in common, they both had terrorist factions living in their countries. But we were supposed to intervene for reasons of controlling terrorist factions, not to change the way a country is governed.

I mean what the ****?
