Hello from Sweden
Hey there, Collectors! New here on the forums... My name's Erik, and I'm from Sweden. I saw The Lost Room for the first time about a year ago, and I've seen it perhaps 3 times since. Just loved it, every single time! Big fan of science fiction, I also watch Star Trek, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, and some more. It's rare to get such a "realistic" sci-fi series set in TODAY's world, for once! No aliens, no warp technologi, just humans.... and weird ass-Objects, of course!
Now, why am I here? Well, I occasionally do a bit of Pen and Paper roleplaying, mostly D&D or homebrew games, if anyone here knows what that is. And one day I thought "Hey! TLR would make an awesome world to roleplay in!"
I started doing some research, about the universe of TLR, the series, the Objects, and so on, mostly taken from the Wiki page. I thought myself quite knowledgeable about TLR... until I clicked on one of the links at the bottom of the Wiki and wound up here, that is.
So far I've read through all the Theories and lurked some on the forum (I lurked for a while before I made an account). The reason I am here is not that I seek to collect object, that I leave to you people. Rather, I'm here to find the inspiration to extend the TLR universe to a where it's playable as a PnPRPG.
I'm currently working on my own Theory - not that I didn't like the ones you already have here, it's just that they didn't feel "me". It's a bit rough around the edges at the moment, but I intend to post it here once it's done to be scrutinized by your (hopefully) ruthless minds. In the meantime, there are some other things you could help me with, if you feel like it...
1) In the game I'm going to be running, one of the Player Characters are going to have "lost" his memory, i.e. erased it with an object. What would be a good Object to give the memory-erasing-ability to? Preferably something that nobody's seen for ages, or a rarely sought-after Object.
2) Arlene Conroy said, when Joe got her out of wherever she was, that she had seen Anna. Were they in the same place? Related to this, did the note and fluffy animal Joe sent ever get to Anna? I searched around to see if I could find any "concrete" evidence to either, but couldn't.
3) In the game, I am thinking of letting Objects "level up", meaning that they could grow more powerful. It's quite hard, as I want the Objects preferably not to just "do" stuff, but rather "do X", as in manipulating specific physical/biological/etc areas of our universe. The "level up" would be extrapolated from "do X" to "do X, but better, or in a different way". Ideas?
4) Related to 3. Is there a list of known Objects with (proven or otherwise) just that specific, underlying X they manipulate somewhere?
</essay>
If you read all that, thanks! I probably won't post much, but it's good to be here.
Thanks in advance!
Erik

Re: Hello from Sweden
Hi Erik. Welcome to our cabal.
Those are very interesting ideas. I read them briefly, and will try to give them a little thought. However, if you look over all the information we have posted, I think you may be able to answer most of it yourself. We have a LOT of information.
