actually, it just occured to me to what WOULD have happened. Right after the event, Eddie would have walked outside. This would be a problem because he has at a MINIMUM
1. the eye
2. likely the glasses
3. the shirt
4. pants
5. underwear
6. left sock
7. right sock
8. left shoe
9. right shoe
10. the wallet
11. the contents of the wallet
12. the key (which you automaticaly take anytime you leave any hotel room.)
All these objects in one place could easilly cause a huge storm. Or worse. With some of those objects, he could have caused someone's death the first time he left the room without meaning to.

Do note, that if he walked out, thinking he would go out the motel room door, he would end coming out from room 9... the room 10 vanished he could not go back.
The plausible next thing is he does not realize. Goes to the reception and returns the key.
THEN oddities begun to really happen and he gets rid of the Objects.
Perhaps someone recalls selling an eyepatch to a freak-out Eddie....

Good point. After he walks out, he's an object and he can "FEEL" other objects. His very clothes would suddenly seem to have a life of their own...and to be an object and have the EYE in your head...that'd be the first thing he got rid of for sure.
