The Paperclip CONFIRMED OBJECT !!!!

I was watching the lost room again and was watching the part where it shows close up to the weasel's object diagram. And after it passes over a sketch of the shoe, there is a paper clip with a circle around it skotch taped to the chalk board. So is there paperclip object? I was just wondering if anyone else had caught that. Its not like its a hard object to find or acquire but none the less I would add one to my collection!

I don’t know, but you can bet I will check it out. A new object is worth its weight in gold—especially an easy one.

Does an item on the Weasel's board count? How reliable a source do we think that is?

Also there's no listing of it on the Wikipedia page.

well who made the listing on wikipedia? At first it didn't have the individual bar of soap and disposed of wrapper until Chris told us about it. Ya never know! emoticon

Re: paper clip?

This is a good discussion to have. The question of what information can be used to verify the authenticity of an object is central to our main mission: collecting.

I refuse to give any authority to Wikipedia. It is a secondary source, and it says things that are patently false. For example, the photo of Eddie and Mabel could not possibly be 8 by 10. Otherwise it could not possibly fit into the 1961 World Almanac (which I have a copy of). Honestly, this site is rapidly becoming the ultimate source of information on TLR. We’re a bunch of TLR-ologists. It is a sacred trust.

We base many objects on the Sood’s inventory, and I can think of no reason why it should have more authority than the Weasel’s research. The weasel has a picture of the wrong scissors, but we do not know what picture of the scissors the Sood has, and the Sood has other pictures that are verifiably wrong.

We should definitely discuss this.

Just a note on vocabulary
An item that’s status as an object is in dispute is called paulistic. A discussion like the one we are having (about the status of an object) is called a chuckle.

Re: Paper Clip Chuckle

Here's what I consider "reliable" sources. The Sood's inventory, the Legion's list, what we actually see, or what Wally details "I knew a guy who had the pencil" and the umbrella.

I doubt the Weasel's list because he was wrong about the clock being the prime object and Ruber's dream because there's a chance it was just a hallucination pieced together from his recent experiences in the room.

I did look at the Weasel's chalkboard and didn't see a paperclip. I think what you're seeing is actually his rough sketch of the key. It sort of looks like an atom or two paperclips overlapping each other.

I was checking to make sure again and there really is a paperclip taped to the chalk board. First there is a picture of the key then it cuts to a different shot where there is a drawing of the shoe in the top left, a picture of the scissors in the bottom right and just to the right of the drawing of the shoe, there is a circle with a paperclip skotch taped to the chalk board. It might be a cloths pin but there is definetly metal object taped to the board. Just check again and you'll see it. emoticon

Ok, I see what you're talking about now, just can't be sure it's a paperclip. Does anyone have a copy of the show on disc I could get? I'm starting to think my TV is too dark to make some of this stuff out.

BTW - My girlfriend who's a math teacher is currently intrigued by the Weasel's board and has noted there may be some equations relating to chemistry and physics. She may put up a post soon.

Re: Paper Clip Chuckle

I reviewed that scene. It is definitely a paperclip and it is clear that the Weasel thought it was an object. It is even possible that the paperclip on the wall was the actual paperclip object. We don’t know for sure that the Weasel had only the pen.

I can see no logical reason why the Weasel’s research should have any less merit than the Sood’s. It is true that he was wrong about the powers of the clock, but he was extrapolating using some pretty touchy theoretical mathematics. It is not uncommon for such an experiment to fail. Even if he was wrong about the powers of the paperclip, it is unlikely that he thought a paperclip was an object without some fairly good information.

The only object images that we are absolutely sure of are the images of actual objects in use. For all others we are trusting in second-hand information. If we trust the Sood’s information, then we may as well trust the Weasel’s.

I was impressed by the mathematics the Weasel was using. It is clear that he had an extensive working theory of the objects. It is also clear that his theory was physics based. However, as far as figuring out what it was, I suspect that the mathematics and drawings shown are just a lot of gibberish copied out of old text books.

I reviewed the scene where Mabel takes the photo out of the 1961 world Almanac and determined the precise dimensions of the photo to be 5” by 7”. I corrected this in the Wikipedia entry.
