Re: Campho Phenique
I think I may have switched my preference to The Borated Powder.
The more I examine this product, the less I understand its application. We should learn more about it before we try to name it.

Re: Campho Phenique
Before I would be willing to support any name, I need to talk to some old people. The problem, as I see it, is that we do not have any sense of the nomencalture for this sort of product.
In 1961, the public still did not have a strong understanding of pharmaceuticals. Hence, the popularity of tonics such as Geritol, that were little more than snake oil. Pharmaceuticals were identified more by what they were supposed to do than by their contents or how they actually worked.
For a guy like Eddie to have used something like Campho Phenique, it must have served some readily identifiable purpose such as the prevention of itches or rashes. He would probably have referred to it by some name related to that purpose: antiitch powder, antiseptic powder, antifungal powder, or antirash powder.
Like I said, I need to talk to some old people.

Re: Campho Phenique
There is something that everyone called this type of powder. My mother is a retired nurse. I will get her input.
I don’t want us to start calling it something that will prove to be an embarrassment. Suppose cologne had gone totally out of fashion and we were looking for a name for The Cologne. We might come up with something like “The Body Odorizer”—and prove to be historical blunderers.

Re: Campho Phenique
Campho Phenique FAQ
It looks like the name was an amalgam of the ingredients (camphor and phenol) with "ique" ending as in unique.
Also, the label on this can tells what it was used for at the time (Athlete's Foot, Dry Dressings, Prickly Heat.)

Re: Campho Phenique
I asked my mother. and she was definitely familiar with the product. She thinks anyone would have called this powder “Campho Phenique”. I guess that will have to be one name in the poll if we do it.
