Re: Campho Phenique
I have a practical take upon naming the Objects, here is my hierarchy and rules
The name should be written in english and indicate the essence of the Object. It should be globally understood by the name and identified, without misconfusement or context. It should bare no false connotations.
Hierarchy
1: The Name used in the Show or given by one of The Creators (First Hand evidence)
2: The Name used in the Show, but not confirmed by the above manner (Second Hand evidence; The Sood, The Legion's List etc.)
3: Obvious name (non-arguable, etc. the mirror) specified with mostlikely usage prefix, or association group (The Shaving Mirror (because it belongs to the Grooming Kit, The Medicine Cabinet Shelf) or specification prefix, for informative purposes (The Glass Eye)
This is because we should leave room if different similar Objects should emerge. If you name the shaving mirror as The Mirror and one day we find out he had large standing mirror in there, calling the small mirror The Mirror would give it too much weight and therefore mystify it´s importance.
4: Established Name, however wrong, if The Name is widely used around (The Bedside Lamp ((it is actually a Table Lamp, but it was put on the bedside table...so)))
5: If the Object has definition written on it (The Foot Powder)
HENCE: the Campo Phenique, being foreign word and lost to the new generation, it needs more "root" to the name.
I admit "wound dressing powder" to be assumption of the usage. I could go with:
a) "Antiseptic Powder"
b) "Borated Dressing Powder"
or
c) "Antiseptic Dressing Powder"
the word "Borated" is too alien for me as a non-native english-speaker, hence the addition "Dressing"... and the name "Dressing Powder" has just lost it´s connection to the product, it could be kitchenware....
As you can see, my Full Objects List
does not follow these rules perfectly yet. I am currently doing the cross-referring within the forum....

Re: Campho Phenique
I’m leaning toward calling it The Campho Phenique. If there were some generic name that it has typically gone by that is comparable to The Shoe Polish or The Foot Powder, I would prefer to go with that, but there doesn’t seem to be such a name for this product.

<off topic>
If Eddie had a rash when he became an object would the rash then become permanent, since objects don't change after becoming an object.

He could stay in the Room long enough to cure the rash.

Re: Campho Phenique
good point.
And he would need the key. And in thinking about it, I remember he said that he allowed the Photograph of him and his wife to approach....which pretty much states that he KNEW it was the photograph. So if he was looking for the key, he might be able to go right to it. Not only sensing an object, but also WHICH object it is.
