It says Fair Oaks. A lot of the detail is hard to see, it has been well used. I still believe it is a safe deposit box key due to the beading around the edge.

Re: Finaly the fracking real key!!!! ^_^
Why Niessen, why not just any plain old key, why go to all that trouble of soldering that key head to another key blade? Maybe they're hinting at someone called Niessen, like a physicist or likewise to explain the event. If you're going to solder that key head, why not go one further and create a custom head? Then again it could be something as basic as making sure that the prop key actually fitted any lock they chose to change the tumbler on. Why go to that trouble of marrying a miss-match when surely a simple old lock and key can be found almost anywhere. The tumbler could almost be anything, new even, a generic replacement make, who would even see it.
Whatever happened to the other motel keys?

If you wiki Niessen you get http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karel_Niessen
With a few links you get to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncertainty_principle
and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observer_effect_(physics)
leading to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat
to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation_of_quantum_mechanics[/url]
to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_suicide_and_immortality#Quantum_immortality
I could be wrong, seriously insanely wrong LOL
This might be useful
http://www.alca.us/key_collectors.html
scroll down and it lists some old Niessen Brothers publications.
Also found an old ebay listing for Niessen Bros. locks.

This really is brilliant, and I’m very glad you did it. The part on Quantum Suicide could very well be an inspiration for the miniseries.
Unfortunately, as you apparently realize, it is also something a paranoid schizophrenic might come up with
I realize you are sane. I just have to point out that the creators of the miniseries probably were not expecting anyone to identify the name on the key and then dig this deep. One of the main prop makers for the show already pointed out that he never expected his props to be scrutinized so closely.

Re: Finally the Real Key !!!!
Ok, well here is the deal, if you really want to find the key, you have to go to ebay, look up vintage, antique, or old keys, and look through them. If you see something that catches your eye, just ask the seller, sometimes they will have them, but not in the picture, i've been doing this and having some luck, but im tired looking through 40 pages of keys, so some one else take my job! Every now and them I will do it.
