Re: Karma and my new job
My attitude has changed over the years. Employers may be interviewing me as a possible employee but I, now, interview them as possible employers. Are they a strong company? Are they efficient in there hiring process and company ideals? Will they treat me as a person or a number? If companies need to look at things like, my credit score, my background and etc, I too must look at them in the same way. 12 years of service to Delphi has taught me that the phrase 'job security' is simply a tactic to make us feel safe. I also learned that any "minor" problem that needs to be addressed in a meeting is another tactic to hide the truth of a larger problem and keep the employees distracted.

Re: Karma and my new job
These days there's no such thing as job security, you could get hired one day and the company could go bust 24 hours later. I've seen the height of the 60s where jobs lasted lifetimes for successive generations, gradually eroded over time to worthless uncaring temporary posts. Same goes for product guarantees, you can buy something that claims a 10 year promise, but that's if the company lasts as long as that scrap of paper. We bought windows with a 25 year guarantee, they lasted 5 the company lasted 4.

Yep, the only constants in life are Death and Taxes. Well, those are the big ones anyway.

Can't believe what is told to me. 24 to 48 hours to get results from drug screening. No results yet!!! And then I still have to be fingerprinted for this security job. Jumping through a lot of hoops for a part time job. And my so-called maybe boss has the personality of a rock.
Maybe I should try and get in at the local telemarketing place. This is looking a lot like a snipe hunt.
Security jobs are like that. Actually, if they are proceeding with the drug tests and want to fingerprint you, you may consider yourself hired. Those tests are expensive and they only do them as a last step.
It is good that your boss has the personality of a rock. That means the security company you work for is unlikely to loose the contract. You won’t be seeing your boss very often anyhow. Guards work alone.

Re: Karma and my new job
How much can you really take when trying to get a minimum wage, part time job? Well, these bozos out did themselves. Passed the drug screening, and now I need to go get fingerprinted. The number of the place the give me doesn't do fingerprinting anymore. Turns out someone in the mall office knew that for some reason this place stops fingerprinting in September. So after finding a place to go the Security guy tells me to come in Friday for about 4 hours for training. And to get fitted for a uniform, also that I have to shave they do not allow facial hair. That clinched it for me. I was not working there. It was just too many hoops to jump thru. However, I am 98% sure I can land a job at the phone place up the road and make more money at full time. And no sales at this place. It's one of the few places left you can call and get a person with no accent. I think they do tech calls and bill calls for Dish Network.
I think the moral of this whole ordeal is that if you know you're not gonna like the job, don't even make an attempt to get it, even if you feel obligated.

Everything you have described is S.O.P. for guard jobs.

Re: Karma and my new job
Ugh. They really mis-represented what they wanted me to do. It's incredibly complicated and tedious. I'm just trying to hang in there and hope somone else calls soon.
I really miss my old job. I had it down and had time to play. Designing and making objects and such. Now I just stare at a screen all day moving the mouse back and forth.
