Re: Karma and my new job
I wander into atheistic pragmatism from time to time. For me, it just doesn’t bear out. It’s sort of like when you’re sure something has been stolen from your car, desk, room, etc—and you even have a couple of suspects in mind—but then you discover that you left it in your other coat pocket.

Re: Karma and my new job
I agree with Chuck, in principle. I believe in a force that set the wheels in motion but then allowed us to create the world we live in today. He/She/It doesn't intervene directly but there are undercurrents in the way the universe functions. Do good and good will come back to you, sometimes. Work hard and you'll succeed, sometimes.

Re: Karma and my new job
I didn't create the life I live, if I had it wouldn't be constantly strewn with Satan's flaming turds at every turn. Lives are an interaction and interference with the world at large, true independence is impossible. Some one will always interfere with your best laid plans in one form or another. Like ripples in a pond. Spiritually I don't know what to believe any more, certainly not the bull**** lies of the world's holy men. I'm probably an agnostic, I can't believe in any deity that makes so many mistakes and causes so much suffering. I do believe though that something gave this universe the initial spark of life, but what it is I have no idea, machine, mineral, vegetable, Disney, Ted Turner, Cthulhu, The Event or spaghetti and meatball monster.

Re: Karma and my new job
I can absolutely certify that no one has the answer to your question. I have theories, but no one has the answer. Basically, all of religion and philosophy are an attempt to answer your question.
The important thing is to not listen to anyone who claims they know the answer and who will only make you cynical or depressed.
But look on the bright side: if no one knows the answer, then the answer could be almost anything. Just think of the possibilities!

Re: Karma and my new job
ANNND to turn this conversation on the opponent direction:
I have been looking for a job two years now, always getting in the interview, and always people getting really excited about me, only to call me the next day someone with better education got it.
Guess what
last friday -I- was the better educated one :P
I got a job!!!
which is really interesting, as I had already settled to think I belonged to the "there is no job for you in the whole town" -category *smirks*

Re: Karma and my new job
I once went for a job at Lego HQ as a game tester for their then new games division, I wrote in expecting to get an interview with my industry experience as a writer, programmer, developer, conceptualist, digital artist, 3D modeller and games reviewer. Weeks later I get a letter saying thanks for attending the interview, but you didn't make selection. There I am thinking what bloody interview? Where did it go, was a chunk of time removed from reality? Who attended?

Re: Karma and my new job
So I didn't go to a con, was miserable and I got a new job where I was also miserable. Then last weekend I went to a con, had fun and lost my job on Monday. No relation between the two events but once again karma has kicked me in the butt.
What is the lesson here? Am I not supposed to have any fun?
