You are right, of course: the term has been bandied about for quite some time now.
Object collecting is unmistakably the sin of avarice. It is pure materialism. On that point, I am with Martin Luther when he said, “Let your sins be strong.”
We are guilty of assigning to a person who is emissary from object to man the title of a spiritual being who is emissary from God to man. I don’t suppose we are any worse than C.S. Lewis when he assigned the role of Christ to a big scary cat.
