It could make a big difference if the vaccine is ready before we go into the winter months.
So far the virus has not taken hold in India or China. That is my biggest concern. The more I learn, the more I am convinced that India and China are the H1N1 super-chargers.

Still no sign of our government Pig Flu leaflet.
Reports here that the version currently hitting here is much milder in form and latest infections direct from the US rather than Mexico.
This is the leaflet I should have had through my letterbox:

Strangely they've only published these in English where usually they publish official leaflets in a range of Asian languages, Polish, French, Spanish and a few others. So I guess those too damn lazy to learn the national language will die in their self imposed pig ignorance.

Lots of people here have the flu now. The official word is deceptive. They talk of 9 confirmed cases and 40 suspected cases, but I know several people who have already gotten sick and recovered again. Not one of them ever reported anything to anyone. The media is definitely downplaying this. I am almost ready to entertain your cover-up theory.

Could well be, the official data doesn't take into account unreported cases. The symptoms are just like any other bad cold and like with any bug there's going to be extremes, both uber mild and killer. My guess is that the flu is already widespread and way before it started getting reported. Most people have shook it off and those that died were put down to other causes. At the moment I have a persistent cold that's ticking all the boxes except the high fever thus far. Does it mean I have the milder form or just a generic spring cold doing the usual rounds, there's no telling it's not like anyone one can tell other than from clinical tests. So a lot of cases will go unnoticed, then again a lot of assumed cases will not. I think it's the duty of governments to keep its people calm, if it's terrible news I'd rather not know, wild panic can be a much worse killer. Press and media hysteria doesn't help either. Then on the other hand I don't want certain governments and their people to live in total denial just because they can't handle a bug's name on ignorant religious grounds. There's certainly a mix of part cover-up part doctored facts.

In the US it is being downplayed for purely political reasons. The current administration doesn’t want to declare an emergency and appear later as though they were exagerating.
In my opinion, there can not be too much hyusteria about this. It is important that people work very hard individually to keep this from spreading. The faster is spreads, the more virulent it will be when it hits China and India. The worse it is going in, the worse it will be coming out again. It’s this coming fall I am worried about.
