Photo Borders

I recently read an article about making your own wall borders by using your photos and printing them on self adhesive paper. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this. I would love to do this but didn't know if this type of paper comes in various degrees of thickness or if it would work in my printer. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Val:

I remember seeing this project too, but I can't remember whether it was in a book or on a TV show. The first place I would check is The Carol Duvall Show on the HGTV.com website.

There are several types of inkjet media you could use for a project like this but the stuff that is readily available is going to be primarily letter size which means you would have to print individual panels of your wall border and then cut them all out and piece them together. Your best bet for a project like this is an inkjet paper with a removable adhesive.

I did s large wall "mural" using our clear window cling and piecing them together. It works well if you are putting it on a light colored wall because it gives the illusion of the design being painted right onto the wall. But our white glossy cling would probably work just as well. Still, when you remove either one of them there will be a bit of a residue from the removable adhesive. It's a good deal tackier than the stuff on post-it notes. There's also a vinyl adhesive backed "paper" made for creating bumper stickers. It's a bit thicker and it also has a removable adhesive. We stock that as well.

Check the HGTV.com website first. If I can find the project I am remembering I will be back in touch-

Wow, the "mural" sounds interesting. Did you scan photos for it as well? Could you scan photos and cut individuals out of it and put it on painted or papered walls? I have never even wall papered anything so I am "paper-challenged". Any thoughts and help is greatly appreciated.

No, there were no photos in the mural. It was done for an organization that wanted to put their logo on the wall without having it painted on (some union labor issue). But you certainly can do it with photos, even cutting people out of them like you mentioned.

Some folks (and I am trying this today myself) have made "decorations" for their ceramic tile backsplashes and even their shower stalls using the clear window cling and a few good coats of the inkjet overcoat spray.

I was also new to wall papering a few years ago, but a neighbor gave me this little booklet (you can find the same info on the web) and once I started on a small project I was wallpapering everything in sight! I have now done two of my three baths, the lower half of the wall in my bedroom and all of my kitchen. It really isn't difficult to do.

As for the papers working in your printer, my first question is what brand and model printer do you use? We'd be happy to send you a sample of the clear and white cling and a sheet of the vinyl bumper sticker paper to try out. Then you can get really creative and start using our cotton inkjet fabric sheets to decorate the rest of the house. If you find my book in a store leaf through it and take a look at the stuff I did in my living room with those sheets - I scanned a tissue box design I loved and used it to make valances and throw pillows.

Like I said, once you get started you can't stop! LOL!

I use an HP photosmart 7660 printer. I would love to try out the paper since I don't know which one to use.
I thank you so much for you help. I am so excited to try new projects and especially ones with photos.

I'm pretty sure that the photo borders one was on the DIY channel. Might want to do a search there for it.
