The 2nd Battalion of Commandos
Very few units of the Belgian army have luck and the privilege to be as young and to have an as rich past that the 2e Battalion Commando,here is her WWII history
THE WAR 40-45
September 1942

The Belgian volunteers for a new weapon (Commandos) are reassembled in Britain. After a stern practice (brings in other to Achnacarry, Scotland), they form the 4e Troop of the 10e interallied Commando under orders of Captain Danloy. This Commando also understood soldiers coming of other occupied countries (France, Netherlands, Poland, Norway..)
September 1943

The unit embarks for North Africa but is sent very quickly in Italy on December 12 th, under the orders of the 8th British Army, it receives the bapt�me of fire on the SANGRO: patrols, raids, ambushes.
January 1944

Reattached to the 5e American Army, it becomes famous on the GARIGLIANO and in the attack of the Mount ORNITO. These operations of in the winter 43-44 will be worth him a first quote: ITALY.
March 1944

The Belgian Troop rejoins the 4e Brigade British Commando on the island of Screw where partisans of TITO are located and fighting and is a basis for the boarding of the German restocking ships in the Adriatic sea. These operations of corsairs will give the unit a second quote: YUGOSLAVIA.
May 1944

The unit goes in England, perfect its practice. One of its elements participates to a raid on the island of YEU to the large of St NAZAIRE (France).

The 4th Troop of N� 10 Telephone-allied Commando takes the title of Regiment Commando.

After having framed in Big Brittany volunteers recruited at the time of the liberation of BELGIUM and to have, in April 1945, rejoined the 1ere Brigade Commando for the work of the North of Germany, the unit Belgian Commando rallies MARCH-LES-DAMES. The Regiment understands a center of instruction (Citadel of Namur), a center of practice Commando (Marche-Les-Dames) and a troop (Seilles). From 1950, the Regiment Commando is charged of the volunteer practice for KOREA (Camp of Wartet).
Founded in 1942, during the 2nd world war, the Commando's were very active and were honoured tree times: ITALY, YOUGOSLAVIA, WALCHEREN.
In the mid fifties , the para's of the SAS and the Commando's will be united in one unit , the unit Para-Commando and participate in evacuations and combat in Africa (Congo,Ruanda ....)
Note  ispite her history the Belgian Government has decided in january 2004 that with the upcoming European Army that would be operational in humanitary interventios , that the elite unit PARA-COMMANDO shall be disbounded at the end of 2005,begin 2006 .
