Finally, the state is picking on a non-tobacco product.
Many of the people I work with are non-smokers and in the PC environment of the cube farm tobacco is a subject of great distain. Responsible for everything from the breakup of families to the death of, well everyone. A few of these folks also fancy themselves as coinsures of beer and fine wine. I have been telling them that their turn is coming.
Does the verbiage here sound familiar?
“In the bill, the Democrat from Portland wants to raise the tax on a 12-ounce beer to 15 cents that would then go to drug and alcohol abuse prevention and treatment within the state.”

ask them how it feels NOW?!?
Who was it that said "we stand together or we hang alone." or sumpin to that effect?
You might try telling them if they will get off their high-horses and defend our right to smoke, we just *might* support their right to get plastered....*might*!
Hell, we've been telling them this would happen for years...I have no sympathy....sorry!

quote: First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Seems appropriate here.
