Help With 5100?

I got 8oz (alot for me)of this stuff with a pipe purchase, lots of people seem to enjoy it. I just can not get the hang of it so far, any tips would be great, how wet or dry? small pipe, big pipe? pot shaped bowl or billiard?....maybe if I can not get the hang of it someone wants to trade for 2 unopened tins of Squadron Leader? emoticon

I like to dry 5100 just a bit and generally smoke it in a smallish bowl. Shape does not seem to make much of a difference to me. A number of folks including me like to mix 5100 with a good burley (I use PA in a 50/50 mix), let it sit for a few days and you will find the two compliment each other very well.

5100 is my favourite VA. Its tangy, zesty with a lovely sweet citrus note. A great tobacco in my opinon. I wish I had some SL to trade with you emoticon

Another good mixer for 5100 is McC's 110 Just Plain Nut. This is a lightly topped burley aromatic that compliments 5100's Va sweetness and tames the bite some find with straight Va's.

I'll second what Jim said about mixing it with some Burley. emoticon In addition to PA, Carter Hall is also reasonably priced and very nutty. I find the 5100 smoothes it out nicely.

People comment negatively about the smell of McClelland tobaccos but anytime I open a Mc tobacco my mouth starts to water.
