Tamayo Y Pareto
I always smoke a cigar when riding my lawn tractor cutting grass/vacuuming leaves, etc., and today I grabbed one of the above named cigars from my humidor to smoke while doing the weekly chore. I thought maybe I would write a little about it for those interested.
Several years ago I saw an advertisement for a Thompson Cigar Company catalog and ordered one. I then ordered a sampler of a few of their brand name cigars and every one I tried wasn't at all pleasing. Later on I ordered another sampler and this time I included the above named cigar and I must say it's one of the best cigars I smoke especially for the price. The Maduro wrappers are almost black, nice and oily, they are spicy, hold a nice long ash, don't run and the chocolate flavor can be tasted in the background. I don't know all the correct terms to use when describing flavors but know when I smoke a good cigar. One Saturday when I knew there would be a couple of true cigar smokers (and also a couple of the bums) at my friends B&M, I took a handful of the cigars to get some other opinions about them. Before I went, I took the band off so they wouldn't know they was smoking an inexpensive cigar. The true cigar smokers really enjoyed them and when I asked the owner how much he thought they should sell for he said between 5 and 7 bucks. He was shocked when I told him they cost a little over a buck a stick. I have gifted him several over time and he enjoys them every time. I didn't tell the rest of the crew what they was and how much they costs because I didn't want to hurt his business but finally relented to a couple of them with my friends blessing.
Below please find a link to the site where they are listed at Thompson's website. I must say that Thompson will almost drive a person crazy with catalogs and as I said before, their house cigars are much less than desirable IMO. I used to have them ship me a bundle of 25 each month for a couple of years until they started sending them every 3 weeks and doubled up a couple of times. I made several calls to get it straightened out and always got one of the phone operators but after some persisitence, I finally got a manager and told him what happened. He checked and found they was in error and told me to keep the last double shipment as a gift since I had been a good customer for a couple of years. I told them to stop sending the catalog which they did but when I get down to my last bundle of 25 which won't be long, I'll be ordering again. I've got many brands of cigars and really enjoy the OpusX (which I smoke on special occasions) and many of the popular brands but for the price and especially when they get some age on them, the Tamayo Pareto cigar is a very enjoyable smoke.
